Harkers Hollow Golf Club
About
Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

great historic course
First and foremost....have realistic expectations about this course. It's a historic private course that went out of business during the great recession and is being brought back to respectable conditions under experienced owners. This is a Robert White course with great bones. the front nine works up and down the mountain on holes 3-8. The back nine works side to side up the mountain on holes 10-16. The course was built in 1929 and really takes advantage of the terrain to give you a variety of lies and shot shapes. Greens were all in very good shape. Tee boxes were a mixed bag but are usable with a sand base. Fairways are gradually recovering, particularly on the back nine. Traps are still a work in progress. For the money, you cannot beat the value of playing a course with this underlying character. And if you land on a bare patch, move your ball to some grass! Same with the bunkers,, rake and place will get it done. This place has great potential given continued time and investment.
Getting Better
This course has improved over the past year or two, the new management is making a real effort. It's a great value and I recommend it.
What great views to enjoy!
The course is much better groomed than I expected and the addition of ladies tee markers was very helpful. The bunkers need more sand but have to say the price was right? Lots of challenging lies on the slopes but great views!
needs work
Cannot distinguish fairways from rough - needs mowing. Weeds in traps and fairways. Down tree branches all over the course. No ball washers out.
Course shouldn't be open until it can be maintained!
Stay away
I know it's March but this place was in bad shape. I played 2 other public places before this round and they were 100% better. No tee boxes, no real distinction between faiways and rough, lots of downed trees and damage to the grounds. This place needs a ton of money and work.
It's a dump
Played here on a $15 hot deal. It's not worth any more than that. Weeds and crabgrass everywhere, it is evident that they are not using any chemicals, pesticides, or water.. Dead patches on the greens. Grass growing in the bunkers which have little if any sand or dirt. Fairways are the same height as the rough. Tee box locations don't match the yardages on the scorecard at all. This is the worst conditioned course by far in western NJ or the Lehigh Valley.
The only great part is that the pace of play is excellent since nobody goes to this place. Walked it in 2 hours 30 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. I would only recommend this course if you are very short on time and need to get around quick, or you are of limited economic means and this is the only golf you can afford.
It is a shame because this layout has good bones and must have been pretty sweet back when it was a private club. The old Harkers greenskeeper now works at Silver Creek CC in Hellertown and has done a phenomenal job of improving conditions there. It's almost like Harkers has no greenskeeper now, just "guys that cut the grass/weeds."
Worst conditioned course I ever played
Played this on a Saturday afternoon $15 golfnow hot deal, that's about what it was worth.
This course has every weed and invasive plant you can imagine. Fairways and rough are all crabgrass cut to similar height, little distinction. Tee markers do not correspond with what is on the card. No attention to detail on anything. Some greens had major dead patches. The course has a post-apocalypse look if someday water and chemicals are outlawed. The only good thing was the pace of play which was excellent because nobody wants to play it. Not the easiest walk, but doable. I guess this course would be good for beginners because they wouldn't be holding anyone up and obviously don't need to be picky on conditions.
This was a private club that went belly up, I heard it use to be in excellent condition and very challenging back then. If I were a former member I'd cry if I saw this course today.
The pictures on the website were mostly taken before it went public and went downhill.
Based on the course conditions I could only imagine how bad the food would be so I didn't stick around for dinner.
A real gem
My first time here. The course was immaculate. The greens were in better shape (don't forget this is November ) than the bigger country clubs in the Poconos were in April/May. Enough water to make shot planning important. I felt it played true to its yardage if not a little longer.
The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return.
Harker's Hallow Fall Golf
This course is owned by the same people as Apple Mountain. For me to get there is a bot over an hour away the same as Apple Mountain. The difference both are hilly course's but Apple Mountain is in better condition. The staff was very friendly and gave us honest information on the conditions. The greens were in great shape but some of the tee boxes needed a lot of work. From what we were told the are doing improvements to the place some I hope one day it will be back to it's formed glory
A nice day of golf
A nice course but the back nine had a lot of leaves lost a few balls is fun o play
Harker's Hollow on the rise
Course much improved from earlier this year - efforts to make improvements to conditions are evident. Fairways were damaged before - better now. Greens are excellent. Course staff friendly and efficient. Seems to draw older players, but slower ones were courteous and allowed me as a single to play through at first opportunity. Hills and slope of back nine require (in my opinion) a power cart - difficult walk in some places. At rate I got through GolfNow, this was a good value and I enjoyed the round.
Don't go
Layout nice, but playing in a cow pasture is not my idea of fun. Greens not bad, everything else THE WORST. Plus NO senior tees.
Nice layout but poorly maintained
Course has great potential. Tee boxes and fairways have been let go as well as sand traps. Very poorly maintained. Greens appearance was pleasing but very spongy and soft. With some work this can be a great course.
Crabgrass everywhere
The course layout is fairly good, but the conditions were not. Crabgrass is everywhere! Most greens are in good condition, but that is the only part of the course that is. Bunkers were virtually unrecognizable, mostly dirt, grass and, you guessed it, crabgrass!
Golf now got me there but the course did not keep me
The price for 18 holes was great for the western New Jersey area but he course is not in good shape. the sand traps are over grown, the fairways are a mix of grass and weeds and the tee boxes are not maintained. The greens were in good shape. The course is basically a back and forth pattern of holes with very few interesting design elements. For a day a with your friends on the links the price to play here would have to determine if I go back. the hot deals had me drive the 45 minutes to get there but the course did not make it so I have to go back.
Great Potential
Great layout, wonderful scenery, 3 1/2 hour round on a Sunday, friendly staff and players, good greens, ... what more can you ask for? Well I guess fairways cut shorter without being 75% crab grass. Also, either add sand to the bunkers or truly make then grass bunkers. Having said that, I played the course with my nine year old son and we had a great time. Course plays fair and has a nice mix of holes. If you are not picky regarding fairway playing like fairways, the course is fun to play.
Lack of Maintance
The course overall in poor condition with lack of regular maintain ce is visually noticeable from the get go and through out the course. The greens rolled well which is what ever course needs at a minumin to call themselves a course. I recommend the course for the average and or beginning players but for your die hard and or people wanting to play on manicured tees, greens, bunkers, and rough this is not at this point the place to go. I only took the opportunity to play it from what I heard it was when it was private. As a golfer I would love to see this course be better maintained and if done if would definitely be a course I would play regular just on for its characteris
Dump
There was no sand in the sand traps but solid ground and grass. In one trap there was even a real animal trap!!!!! Tee boxes were bare sand and in some were cut merely in the middle of the fairway. Greens were ok. Beautiful views though. Bought a Hot Deal from $14 with cart. At least a couple of dollars more than a large bucket of range balls in my area.
Ok round, good value
The course has a nice layout with some interesting holes but is not well maintained. Bunkers were overgrown with grass/weeds and fairways were in poor condition at best. Would have loved to see/play this course when it was a country club. For the price I paid I would play it again.
