River Vale Country Club
About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Good value with Golfnow discount
Courses in this area tend to be overpriced (non County courses) for what you actually get. I prefer driving out to West Jersey or down South to play those courses since I only go golfing 5-10 times per summer. But this one was in good shape, and although the standard rate of $100 would be too much for this course, $66 wasn't bad using the Golfnow rate.
Fast greens, well maintained
Will play there again! Nice course, pretty open but with some degrees of difficuly on hole 6 and 10
Drew in S.NJ
Well maintained course. Greens in good condition.
Got a tee time through Golf Now for $51. Normal price for out of town players on a Saturday is $99 which is way too much. For a town/public course it's in great shape. Greens are pretty challenging and course is VERY hilly. Every shot you are hitting up or down in elevation. Makes club selection very important. Some holes are very tight, taking driver out of play. Lay out is pretty good. Staff was very friendly. Would play again for sure. But only with a discounted tee time. For $99 I'd much prefer taking the ride out to Wild Turkey for a few extra bucks.
Pricey---- If not for Golf Now
nice course--- tee box good shape--- fairways are wide----greens are challenging--------
Nice golf cource
Very enjoyable round 4hours ( the group in front let us play through. Thank you guys.) Conditions were better then expected. No two holes were the same. Staff was friendly, and the rangers were on the ball and kept play moving. Would play again
Good course if you get a good deal. If you live in Rivervale you pay only half the green fee cost.
I was there early so I am sure they didn't have ample time to bring the course up to standards. But overall the greens were semi-fast. The fairway was where my disappointment lies. They seemed like you were hitting off of someones backyard where the grass is just gut really short. Again it is early and my first time playing that course so.... Their practice facility is pretty good. Chipping area, putting area and range (closed when I was there). I will play there again but this time I am going to go in May or later.
Nice scenic view and great golf!
Historic, Donald Ross engineered course with undulating greens, pine tree surround and all! Short of going to Pinehurst and really worth the visit to play there!
Well maintained course, great price!
The course was well worth it for the price. Course was in pretty good shape despite tremendous rainfall the day before. Watch out for coyote as it gets closer to dusk!
Fun Golf Course
Fun course, friendly staff. You feel like a member of a private course for a day.
