Preakness Valley Golf Course - West

Always a good time playing here. Grounds are always in tip top shape.

Even in frigid conditions the couse is still fun to play.

Had a frost delay until 945am so managers decided on shotgun start so golfers could get home to dinner.

I came back to Preakness Valley after 8-9 years of not playing there. 10 years ago, this place was not much better than a cow pasture. The staff were a bunch of crabby old farts who treated the golfers as an interruption in their day of reading the papers. No tee times, so unless you were first on line, it was a long wait just to tee off. the starters didn't care, so by 8:30 the pace of play was sure to fall to 5 hours of more. Just a really bad experience.

A friend said that things had gotten much better, so I gave it a shot and I was really shocked at how much the place had improved. First of all, they now have Tee times either directly thru the local PVGC websire, or thru GOLF NOW. as to the golf itself, the course has been dramatically improved. The Tee areas are well tended. The fairways have been fixed and maintained, and even the off-fairway grasses are well maintained. neither course is very long, the whites on the East course are 5533 yards and the west a little longer at 5867 yards.

The staff is still a bunch of older men, but they are no longer crabby.

Give either the west or the east course a shot. it beats working.
