Great Public Course
My wife and I played the East course and had a great experience. Rain was threatening so the course was fairly sparse. The course was in great condition; greens rolled true, bunkers were well manicured and the fairways were clean, too.
I recommend either of these course as a great option for those looking for a challenge. The east course is not for beginners as balls that don't find the fairway are easily lost in the high grass.
First Time Visit
Played the East Course, the West had been aerated, East due the next week. The Mercer Oaks complex very nice, got direction from the Pro Shop where to go after I got my cart. Starter got me in with a 3some, ahead of my tee time, with gentlemen who knew the course. Had a good day and good time. Will be back to play the West, and will keep Mercer Oaks on go to list.
Slow greens
Course was in good condition staff was nice .... The only thing I can say bad about the course was the greens were slow I would say they ran about a 9.5 I played the east course and will play it again
East Course - Nice Track
I had not played the East Course in several years.
It was in good shape. Forgiving , but if you are too far off line the height and density of the flora will make finding the ball virtually impossible.
A good course to walk.
Pleasant and challenging
Mercer East course - well maintained , challenging , scenic and fun. East side has a ton of sand traps so it's design presents some challenging holes. Overall a good day of golf . It was my first time playing Esst , I had played West a few times ; which features more water hazards than sand ; but either side is enjoyable .
Updated Review
I reviewed Mercer Oaks East a little while back and gave it what I felt was an honest review with very low marks. But I think it's important to revisit reviews because things can change.
I played recently and the course was back up to the standard I had become accustomed to. Jumped in as a single with three other single players and they made for great company. The pro shop staff and starter were BY FAR the friendliest I've ever had there (because sometimes they're just not and they don't really seem to take too kindly to those of us who book through GolfNow). The beverage cart was easy to connect with. The course was in very good shape. The greens were rolling fairly true, but I'm still amazed that given the many local residents who play this course multiple times a week that they don't take care of ball marks still astounds me. All you have to do is fix yours and fix a second. All-in-all, a tremendous value for Mercer County Residents and fairly priced for those of us not from MC. If you can snag a GolfNow hotdeal, even better.
Next hole ?
I was very happy with the course what with being a county course, it's a good thing we were teamed up with a local player as there were absolutely no directions to the next hole
Best pace of play
Best pace of play in the area. Course well maintained.
This is a really good course
I play all over so I have a high bar for courses. It's not an elite course so I can't give it an excellent but it's a really good course. It's well kept, took me around 4 hours with a foursome on a crowded day and the staff was there if I needed anything. They have a range the club house has cold beer and food. I liked the course layout too, some creative holes and water in play at times.
To rate it an excellent I guess the bar could be nicer, the course could have been cleaner at the tee box and had ball washers. The course itself could have some more dramatic scenery or elevation changes.
The more important part is it's a solid course and a great value. Definitely worth a play!
Love it
Very windy, the East course is wide open, would have been better to play West course which is a little more closed in by the trees. But overall a great course.
The course was in surprisingly good condition for February
It was a treat to have an opportunity to play a round of golf in February. Staff was upbeat and helpful. A very good crowd of golfers for midweek in February and the pace of play didn't suffer at all. Practice facility was open and in good shape. I liked the idea of 2 hole locations on each green to keep the surface fresh. All in all, a Big Win to play golf in the middle of the winter.
Windy February golf
I played Mercer Oaks East just once before in the summer of 2016. Best score of my life with a 77. I returned on President's Day to join a random 4-some.
Winter golf is always a bit tricky as you don't know for sure what the weather will turn out to be. It was windy (up to 15-20 mph) and a bit chilly in the morning but by the end of the round it was around mid 60s.
The course is decent shape and the greens were in great shape for the winter months. They utilized a 2-pin system where each group moves the flag from one end of a green to another. For this reason, the greens remain in decent shape but trying to figure out distances using the red/white/blue flags was difficult.
They cut down all the fescue prior to the winter season so you won't lose any balls if you mishit. That helped given the high winds.
The biggest disappointment was the amount of goose excrement all over the course. I understand that it's the winter and only open a month at a time, but it was everywhere and even had some smeared on the greens.
Overall, a decent round and took just over 4.5 hours to complete. Not a fast round but not the worst. At one point, there were 3 groups on Hole 11 even though a ranger was driving around in a cart. They should have someone who actually notices the hold up and ask players to move on quicker.
I'm looking forward to playing West this season.
