Although it's only an hour from New York City, the Garrison's secluded location nestled in the Hudson Highlands makes it feel much further. Perched 800 feet above the Hudson River, the 18-hole Garrison golf course offers panoramic views of the river and the surrounding mountains. As beautiful as the rolling hills are, they provide a challenging topography that will keep you from being distracted by the scenery. The rolling greens are flanked with bunkers and water. In addition to the uphill, downhill, and side hill lies, you can expect a few tough carries over deep ravines and stands of mature oaks along the fairways. The elevation changes are especially dramatic on the front nine while the back nine is a bit more open and forgiving, but you'll still need accuracy throughout the entire golf course.

Beautiful Course but Awful food and drink services
Nice short challenging course. I was a bit surprised that it wasn't cart path only in a few of the holes, but I guess the cart paths and relation to the width of the fairways would make it difficult. My biggest issue and it seems like it's the theme the last time I was there. Why would you have a wireless credit card machine at the 10 hole turn and your clubhouse is right behind you, which I am sure you could run a tethered line into snack shack. Last thing is I ordered a burger through the GPS system...bad idea. I get to the turn and compounding the fact that the credit card machine doesn't work, the cook hand even started cooking fries or finished the burger. They had 15 minutes to complete a simple order. Bring cash and don't order food!
A day on the links
It was a well maintained course with great views of the Hudson River and West Point.
beautiful track
Make the trip and play this course. Beautiful course with gorgeous views. Greens were in very good shape, 4 hour round, friendly staff. Only issue was rough was a little burned out
Really nice course
The course was in good condition. The lay out was interesting and the views wonderful. Not a lot of golf etiquette on the course so play was slow even though there was not a lot of play. Highly recommend .
Great layout
Fun layout that challenges you. Course is well up kept and a great value for the money.
A great escape from NYC
Garrison Golf Club is a beautiful mountain course about 70 mins north of New York City. Amazing views from the clubhouse and when you step onto the first tee. The front nine is very tight and an interesting layout, with many elevation changes and tricky greens. The back nine has a different feel, a little more wide-open, and is a pleasant change from the front nine. The course was in good condition even with heavy rain the night before. Pace of play was very good at just over 4 hours for 18 holes. Golf carts have screens with hole layouts and GPS navigation, club/ball cleaner on the side, and even USB charging ports - awesome. The staff was very friendly and really capped off a very nice overall experience. I highly recommend Garrison Golf Club and I can't wait to get back there.

Nice course
Some nice views at certain points from course. I like the course layout, narrow fairways & shots off tee, elevation changes, protected greens & obstacles/ hazards that make it challenging. I will be back
Maybe just a bad spring
First, pace of play was a huge issue. The course is slow, period. At one point, we had three groups waiting on the 10th tee with a backup.
Conditions were not great either. We've had little rain, but for some reason the course was really wet, muddy in many spots. No one else in the area is having that issue right now.
The greens seem inconsistent and poor. Ball marks everywhere, no one seems to fix them, and different grasses patched all over them.
I don't know if it was just an off day or off spring, but I was fairly disappointed with the overall condition and pace.
Beautiful Challenge
First time playing it was a real challenge with several blind tee shots. From the tips the par threes are tough with the shortest 180 and the others 200 plus - the longest played into the wind and was all carry over water. Small greens with tricky grain. I would like a second round from the middle tees. Spectacular views of West Point across the river.
Challenging course
Very well worth to play and challenging.
Beautiful course
From the opening whole this course is about setting up your next shot. Greens were fast but soft. Bunkers had to be taken into account on most holes. Could have used a Marshall to move play along but even so we played in 4:45 for a weekend.
Garrison - Always a challenge
I have played this course over 20 years, there are some great views from first tee of hudson valley. It is a tough front nine and easier back nine. Conditions were good, tees, fairways and greens were firm which protected them from pitch marks but some greens are too small to be this firm. pace of play was slow for a while, as some poor golfers were playing from tips and really struggled. Still they did move up when we pointed out there was a pile up behind them. We played after 3 pm and for $45 with cart is a bargain. Some holes require a draw to hit the fairway 4 and 7 . Strange that water hazards are not marked on holes, 7, 8, 15 etc which could speed up play. Had dinner down road at Table 9 which was great.
Reminiscent of North Carolina mountains golf courses!
The Garrison Golf Club is an excellent course with challenging holes and spectacular views.
This course reminds me of the golf courses in western North Carolina, where courses are surrounded by mountains and the course layouts have difficult terrain changes and challenging water holes.
I would recommend this course to a more advanced player. Not for the beginner golfer!
The Inn at Garrison is steps away from the Pro Shop and dinner at the Garrison Restaurant will complete your golf outing here ~ with farm to table type cuisine and lively bar/outdoor seating which overlooks the Hudson River. The Garrison Grill, a covered outdoor bar/grill also overlooks the Hudson and is another great place to grab a bite before your golf round or midway through your game at the 9th hole!! Great River watching location!
Always a pleasure to golf at Garrison Golf Club.
Will return.
Incredible views of the Hudson River and Mtns
Excellent course, great scenery, and challenging. Look forward to playing again.....
Best Conditions Around
For the past few years, the lazy swan has had the best course conditions for a public course in the area. It is always really well maintained with excellent greens. I always look forward to playing here because the greens are always so true. They did just punch the greens a few days ago, so right now they're not so great, but in a week or two they'll be back to normal. Unfortunately, the pro (who is usually the one working) isn't really that friendly, but luckily I usually only deal with him at check-in. Still love playing the course.
Great Golf at Garrison
Excellent golf course, very tough but very fair. Great greens fast & true, lots of challenges on this course for all levels of game skill. Most definetly recommend to all real golfers.
Using Golnow
Checkin was easy and fast. Course was empty . No one in front of us nor anyone behind us. Played in 3 hrs. Great fun.
Great course
Course is in great shape. laid out beautifully. Only criticism of the course I have is of a couple of greens. They are really hard to read and really punishing. Almost too tough.
