Although it's only an hour from New York City, the Garrison's secluded location nestled in the Hudson Highlands makes it feel much further. Perched 800 feet above the Hudson River, the 18-hole Garrison golf course offers panoramic views of the river and the surrounding mountains. As beautiful as the rolling hills are, they provide a challenging topography that will keep you from being distracted by the scenery. The rolling greens are flanked with bunkers and water. In addition to the uphill, downhill, and side hill lies, you can expect a few tough carries over deep ravines and stands of mature oaks along the fairways. The elevation changes are especially dramatic on the front nine while the back nine is a bit more open and forgiving, but you'll still need accuracy throughout the entire golf course.

The Garrison Challenge
AN AVERAGE OR POOR PLAYER WOULD HAVE GREAT DIFFICULTY PLAYING THIS GOLF COURSE. IT IS NARROW WITH SMALL GREENS THAT ARE HARD TO HOLD AND VERY HARD TO READ. TO GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE I'M A 6 HASNDICAPP AND HAVE PLAYED GARRISON THE PAST 3 YEARS MAYBE 15 TIMES AND HAVE BROKE 80 ONLY TWICE. AS BOBBY JONES SAID OF ANOTHER GOLF COURSE...IT IS THE LONGEST "SHORT" COURSE I'VE EVER PLAYED...STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU'RE GOOD
Good time for a first visit
This was our first visit to Rockland County and our second golfing experience in the area. I'm a beginner and my husband is an intermediate golfer and we both enjoyed ourselves. Unfortunately our first experience was at Patriot Hills and everything paled in comparison. Overall, good golf course with very friendly and helpful staff! The second hole was sick in terms of elevation and views. Would definitely come back again and recommend to others.
Good course, terrific views
I try to play this course at least once a season, the views on the back nine are amazing. But aside from the views this is a fair test of golf. There are a lot of elevation changes and it even on the downhill holes the course plays long. There is not a lot of water on the course but where it is comes in to play. The conditions were a little rough especially since there had been a heavy rain the day before. Also several tee areas were being redone. The greens fees for seniors are reasonable ($50 with the cart). I would not recommend walking b/c of the elevation changes. keep in mind the course was built on the side of slope and puts will run downhill.
Awesome
The Garrison is a top of the line public golf course. The 2nd I got out of my car i was greeted by 5 star service from the cart attendants. After loading they informed us of facility and were very helpful. My tee time was a 1010 the starter Rich got me out at 950. He was very helpful and it was nice to see the starter on the 1st tee. The round was great and pace of play was smooth with player assistants checking on us. Once we finished on 18 the cart attendants cleaned are clubs by the green which was private club like and the kids took are carts by our cars. I will at the Garrison very soon, based on the service and the breathtaking views it offers.
Garrison in June
Even though course was wet (light intermittent shower) was in overall good shape. They are rebuilding a few tee boxes which was a bit annoying. If your first time playing there, try to pair up with someone who knows course so you know where to aim on some blind shots. Really nice scenery around the course. Enjoy the round!
Mountain golf with views of the Hudson River
I play Garrison Club quite often. It's challenging due to all the elevation changes, and uneven lies due to sloping fairways. The greens run true and its easy to read the breaks even though they aren't the fastest out there. Play can be a bit slower than desired on weekends, but that is pretty much the norm in the NYC area. A few ground under repair areas due to the heavy rains recently, but overall course was in good shape.
Challenging with a great view of West Point
Very tough front 9 and the back 9 is very challenging . Need to cut the rough a bit lower . The ball gets bury and it is impossible to find .
Over all very challenging course but fun.
Played twice and I be back again
A few views of the Hudson
The course conditions were very erratic. Some very well maintained fairways, roughs, and greens while others were in need of repair. It was easy to loose a ball in the rough on some holes.
Bring a GPS!
Basically no markers on the course. At the very least, course should mark cart paths.
Great course
Some real beautiful holes and greens were in great shape. Clubhouse and restaurant are no frills but course was challenging. Some narrow fairways. Highly reccomend checking this place out.
great view
spectacular scenery.
It had rained heavily days before so the rough was a bit long, water hazards full, some sections were appropriately wet.
Greens were good.
We're definitely going back.

Challenging Course
Better be on your game for the first 8 holes - tee shots need to be precise and greens are challenging.
Nicest course in my area
From great views of the Hudson River to well laid out holes that seldom abut each other Garrison GC is my absolute favorite place to not only golf but to just be there. The staff are all terrific.
Very scenic - Great staff - Would play again
Enjoyed the course. Interesting layout. Play was neither too slow nor too fast. Very scenic views of the Hudson Valley.
Greens were ridiculous ...I don't mind challenging but they resembled a mini golf course
1st time I played...don't think I will be back...rather play patriot hills west point...just as challenging withou the ridiculous greens
Beautiful and fun!
This course is deceptive. It looks easy. But the slopes can cause even a good shot to roll into unintended places. The greens are very fast also. So watch your power on the putts. But the views of the Hudson river are breathtaking! Bring a camera. It is a real treasure for a very reasonable price. My group and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I'm sure you will too.
front nine tough back nine easy----great views
fairways and greens in very good condition---tees need some work
Great views- tough play
Course has great views of the Hudson River valley. Course itself was in good shape. I found it very challenging slim fairways at times, blind shots, and uphill battles. Only real complaint is there were 3 single players behind us that should have been grouped. We let 2 play through but just couldn't let the 3rd
Fantastic!
Great views of the Hudson and West Point! Played in under four hours and great layout! Booked another time for tomorrow.
