Putnam County Golf Course

About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

A Good Day
Bunkers weren't well kept but overall, the course played well.
Great course
Been playing it for years, it’s in decent condition. Pace of play should absolutely improve though.

Private course feel
Course was in great shape and staff was awesome. You almost feel like you are in a private club when you pull up. Groups were spaced and we didn't feel like we waited much or were rushed.
Hospitality
This course is simply wonderful. The guys and gals that make this establishment run so smoothly is truly amazing. Everyone is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The other golfers are nice. I had an amazing experience, I will definitely be back! Thank you!
Not Sure
Singed up to play 18. Was told league night might have to play back 9 twice. No problem. Finish up first 9. 2 foursomes and two walkers waiting to tee off. $73 for 9 holes Couldn’t bring coolers in cart because cart girl is there. 95 degrees and cart girl never came once. Not sure if golf now is aware or approves of this but I’ve never signed up to play 18 and only play 9 and then have to deal with those non friendly starters you get from time to time. Sad
We didn’t use any of the course amenities. Course was good. Would play there again
Decent course
It’s a pretty challenging course but it’s seen better days. There’s no drinking water on the course and many of the bunkers are poorly kept. Pace of play is always very slow and I wish they would control that better.
Excellent Value/Good Layout
Enjoyed my first trip around this gem. Greens were in great shape, fairways good and tees better than average. Great overall value.
