This once prestigious course is now a dump
This once prestigious course that was well maintained now became a dump. The tee boxes are dirt boxes and the sand traps now became bee traps. The worst part about this last experience is that the course still have the golf balls to charge the full $80 for the round with these conditions.
Awful Condition
This course might have the worst tee boxes and sand traps I have ever seen. Weeds/grass are growing in every sand trap (also hard wet sand) and the tee boxes are like hitting from the rough. The layout is normal for a NYC local course with some challenges but the conditions are horrendous. The greens were like bumpy and thick. This course needs a lot of work before I considering going back here again.
HORRIBLE
I have been playing golf a long time and what they have done to this onetime decent course is criminal. It is a typical city course that is really needed . During the covid lockdown when courses were doing their best to make sure when they opened and the course would be ready, They did nothing at all.
It was so beat up everywhere!!!! Everything was so over grown and UNPLAYABLE. The tee boxes were dirt and holes.
I am very surprised that New York City would allow American golf to totally destroy a one time nice golf course.
If you like the game and everything about the sport--GO ELSEWHERE !!!
I would like to hear from someone at golfnow, for a refund.
100% Agree.. I wish I read your comment before I went on 7-3.. they should be charging 1/2 of what they are for this course.. The grass on the sides of the fairways is so deep people were losing balls in plain site..asphalt on cart paths are all pot holed..brutal..
Stay Away
First time playing this course but would not recommend playing. Fairways and greens are in decent shape but the rest of the course is terrible. Impossible to find your ball if you hit into the rough / fescue...Sandtraps are unplayable as they have weeds / grass growing in them. Tee boxes are not in good condition. And on top of all of this, the course is charging
$76.00. Not worth it.
Terrible
I’ve played here a ton, but today was just bad. I get the whole pandemic thing, but they opened up a week ago, did not bother to cut any of the grass, charged $80 though. Even the tee boxes weren’t mowed. Maybe get the course in order before opening, it was terrible today.
Not to mention, there are people “hiding” at wholes through the course with their bags and 4 balls chipping and putting in between groups on the greens. Specifically, hole 11. Why pay for a mess of a course when you can walk on and do that?
First one out, 807 tee time, half hour frost delay. No problem. The course is in phenomenal shape considering all things. Jan 10 and the greens are fast. Bumpy but fast. Jan10. Hot deal for $33. . cant beat it. Glad I went.
nice but overpriced
40 bucks for a very later afternoon tee time is very high considering there was no way to get 18 in. course in great condition, fairways and greens soft, very few divots. also being a city course courtesy goes out the window, nothing like having a ball land next to you, with no warning, on the fairway of 11 because the clowns behind you dont want to wait.
for what its worth cheaper golf with less people on a late afternoon can be found at south shore or silver lake
give me a lil break, no?
Enjoyed layout of course but was greatly disappointed that i paid full price for non-advertised aeration a couple days previous. The greens were sparsely top-dressed and basically unplayable. I played with one of the course rangers who was off duty who also agreed. They reduce the fees at other courses, which is fair. I am a single digit player and I will go back if that says anything about the layout. Not sure the greens will ever be as good as Marine Park, but they remind me of how Dyker or Silver Lake play as local comparisons.
Always good
Good end of season shape. Only issue today was green aeration. Didn’t know if it was advertised or not.
Impossible to get the ball to the hole and keep it on line.
Otherwise tee to green conditions are still the best in the NY Metro area. This is my go to course.
Shot 77 with bad greens
Great course to Play-Feels like Westchaster
I played on a Sunday had a mid-afternoon tee time - check in was smooth and the course was in GREAT condition.
I check in as a single and was hoping to hook up with a group. when i got to the first tee. There was no starter in site and a foursome had just tee off. So I waited awhile to give some gap to the group in front and tee off. By the four hole
i notice a twosome behind me, so I slowed down a little so maybe we can link up an keep a nice pace with the foursome in front of me. but to my surprise they were HOLE HOPPING by the six hole they vanish. BTW no Ranger to be found. Saw the twosome later again on the 15th hole - AMAZINGLY - my round took about 4 hour. So I'm not complaining just wish a little more controlled and not a free for all.
Great course to play - PM tee time would be better.
Followed by mowers
First 12 holes we were followed by the mower. Cutting around the greens. Noise got frustrating after a few. They should be working backwards, 18,17,16.... so that they wont bother anyone twice. Once would be ok, the work has to get done. But these guys just one hole after the other, $73 for a round of golf on staten island should get you at least some quiet during the round. Also- we booked the first two tee times of the day, in order to finish early and not have to wait for slow golfers holding us up. Yet this course let people who were walking start out on the back nine. Front nine took us two hours, back nine took us three and a half hours to finish.

I also forgot to mention the donut that was left on the 11 hole putting green.
