Too Close to Rain
Overall the round was enjoyable factoring in the time of year and after a heavy rain. Played at a pace of 4 hrs & 15 mins due to cart path only, watery conditions, lift clean and play
Good course
Enjoyed the round, play was fast, played as a 3some. Impressed with the greens, big, alot of undulation, visually challenging, surprising slopes. Fairways appear narrow but open up beyond tee box. I enjoyed the course and am looking forward to playing again soon
Please Bring Back The Ambassadors
It started pretty smooth but after the 7th hole things got very slow. I was hoping someone will come along to move the playing pace. Huge disappointment and waste of time after the 12th hole I left, I didn't see myself continuing in such a slow pace,,,, it's a great course but slow playing pace.
Staff Friendly
Nice course , very challenging playing for the first time.
LaTourette
My only complaint is that it stormed half way and did not get a rain check
Slowest Round of the Summer
Possibly because one or more of the other Staten Island municiple courses had outings scheduled, today's round at LaTourette was excruiatingly slow to the point that 9 holes took 3 hours. This is a shame as the course was in great condition.
Quality Municipal
The pace of play was the only major issue I had here, but important to keep in mind I was playing on a weekend. The conditions were better than what I expected. I enjoyed the lay out of the course overall.
Not bad!!
Course I’m awesome condition, but pace of play was horrific.
LaTourette at 10:37 am
Got off on time and played 18 without any lengthy wait. Four or five tee boxes were spotty to bare. Those were seeded, not sodded, and the seeds were pretty well trampled. Otherwise greens are running nice and true. Basically, a nice track in good shape.
pick up the pace
had a 10:22 tee time on 6-27-18 . the group in front of us 3 men and lady , all drove the ball well 2nd shots all ok . then chipping and putting came into play . never saw so much lining up chips , practice swings at least 3 from one of the group on his chips and his putt were no better . at one point prior to chipping ,green clear , he faced us and took 2 practice swings , addressed the ball took 2 more practice swings , walks away from ball then stands behind it and lines it up again , returns to the ball and hits it . this continued for most of the round , after the 12th hole and the tome being 1:42pm we decided to leave . that group was just about 2 holes behind the foursome in front of them !!
Never Disappoints, Nice Course
I've played this course numerous times and it never disappoints, the fairways are trimmed shorter than usual so finding your ball isn't challenging, lost only one ball. You will love the greens they're in spectacular condition, the 10th hole never looked better, it always disappointed. I would recommend this course to intermediates and experienced as well.
Decent Routing with Good Movement
The course is OK, gets a lot of play due to lack of golf in NYC and huge population. Turf conditions are as good as can be expected and the holes have good variety.
Solid Muni
My first round here since early spring and the course is in very good shape. Pace of play is generally slow here since the ranger just seems to drive by. Our round was 4 1/2 hours.
The course has wide fairways and the rough isn’t long so unless your under a tree in the rough the penalty for a stray tee shot is not severe.
The price is a little high but the ability to get a weekend tee time in the morning is what gets me to drive from NJ.
We tried to call the grill on the 8th tee to order lunch but the clubhouse had trouble transferring the call and in the end no one picked up. They really could be more effective at check in and the grill.
I have yet to use the driving range which gets a lot of use.
No value here
I get that greens need to be airrated but every green was unputtable. To charge full price and make no mention of it is a disgrace. It’s poorly laid out very little challenge except for having to hit off hard pan and put through a plinko board. Never again
Pretty good for a city course
1) Has a driving range to warm up on, which is more than you can say for most Public courses near NYC.
2) Layout feels like you are always driving the ball downhill, which is fun. Lots of long and straight Par 4's.
3) Fairways and rough could use a little TLC. This course could actually be a top tier course if they put some money into the landscaping, clean up the tee boxes, plant more trees along the sides of the fairway or behind some of the holes (a miss hit shot is going straight into the road / someone's windshield)
4) Bunkers had a ton of dirt & gravel in them. Cant get under the ball if all you have are rocks an inch under the sand.
5) Cart paths look like they haven't been repaved in a decade, was a bumpy ride.
6) Greens were aerated on my date of play, which they really should tell you about ahead of time, or knock a few dollars off the greens fees.
Overall had a great time. There was rain in the forecast, but it didn't rain... which meant the course was empty. Pace of play was no problem, and really had a lot of fun. Course could be something special if they put a bit of money into it.
