Had a Great time...course was in good condition. Water was Great and I was playing with two of my good buddy
Course Needs Some Improvements
Spook has tons of potential and was in better shape in the past. Yes, there’s been a lot of rain recently but many greens were very bumpy and absurdly slow. Some other greens that get more sun were much better. Traps were inconsistent as well with many being unplayable.
Hope to see improvements for next year or for a later fall round. Overall, it’s still a very solid course/layout.
Suffern Swingfest
A fair challenge for the 1st time golfer as well as for the regulars in my foursome. The greens were in excellent condition but be forewarned about approach shots the land too deep, leaving a downhill 1st putt that risks a 3-putt (or worse!). The one surprising element missing from this course are consistent yardage markers, so bring a rangefinder or other tool to help you gauge distance to the middle of the green or to the mini well-placed fairway bunkers. I
Hidden gems
It’s a pleasure to play first time here. Definitely coming back to play again.
Lunch at Turn
WHen we made the turn I stopped at the snack bar and was refused a sandwich (because I was supposed to call in advance - which i must have missed). I would have taken a hot dog or a pre-made sandwich but there was none. The server behind that bar was not accomodating in any way. Not a deal breaker but not the level of service that this course deserves.
Nice layout
The greens are painfully slow, and many times putting uphill. I feel like I need to crush the ball on the greens.
Challenging and Friendly
Spook Rock is a well maintained course. It is a bit challenging but has some friendly holes as well. I have played there a few times and recommend it to others.
