Sanibel
Liked course, greens new and in great shape, but fairways still damaged. Priced accordingly.
It’s great for a lot of reasons
It depends what you are looking for. I have a place in captiva and playing golf off island is tough. Sanibel golf course is close, the greens are great, the layout is interesting, fairways are beat up but who cares. Roll it 3 feet find some grass and play. They are trying to recover from the hurricane and I’m happy to help. Give ‘em a little cash and have a fun round! If you are a golf jerk this isn’t for you. If you want to have fun and just get out there and play this is great.
Under maintenance, we'll kept
Obviously there was a MAJOR hurricane that hit this course recently, but this maintenance team is phenomenal. The greens were in top 5 shape of the best courses I've played, and I've played some big name courses. The staff was terrific and the starter was the best. I will definitely play this course again.
Looking around and impressed
I have played here many times for years. Driving around the island and seeing the remains from Ian I think this golf course is quite impressive.
The greens are very impressive. Amazing thick green grass that rolled true. Greens and adjacent to greens was all good
Fairways are in less good condition. You must play “winter rules”. There is not grass ever. And unfortunately, the fairway on 18 is the poorest. That may leave a lasting thought.
Overall, the course was impressive. Greens allowed for pleasant round in a perfect day for golf
First time on this course and first visit to Sanibel since the Hurricane. Was pleasantly surprised how well cleanup has progressed on the island . The tee boxes were in good shape and the greens and the area around the greens was excellent. The fairways are still a little spotty from the hurricane damage but the bare areas have been reseeded and appear to be on the way to full recovery. The owner was very friendly and appears to be trying hard to get this course back to pre hurricane conditions. Hope everyone heads out to Sanibel for some golf and helps get this course back on track .
Over Valued
All though the greens are in good shape, the fairways & tee boxes are in very poor shape… for $100 for green fees, this course is currently not worth the price… hopefully they will get the fairways straightened out from where they are today…
Greens were the only thing that was green the Fairways are dirt. The tea boxes were pitiful and for $90 you think it would be better. I know they went through the hurricane but they need a lot a lot of work.
Nice course
Nice course, friendly staff. The fairways are about 80% grown back from the hurricane. There are know snacks or drinks. Take your own.
Sanibel GC
The pro, Drew and the lady that checked me in were both great! Very informative and helpful!
The greens were in excellent shape. The fairways were far from perfect, but reasonable when you consider they were covered with salt water for months!
Enjoyed the course and the experience!
Playing on Sanibel Island at high season was a treat
The staff was friendly and accommodating. A little crowded on the front 9. Wide open on the back.
If you are a high handicap player like me, bring a lot of balls for the front 9 - many opportunities to lose them.
Back 9 is a lot more forgiving.
Greens were incredible.
Fairways not so much. We had an agreement that we could pick a ball off of the mud and place on the nearest patch of grass.
All new greens
For those who haves played this course in the past few years you will recall the poor condition of the greens. This has been corrected with brand new greens on every hole.
Now you appreciate the contours of the greens and consistent green play for the whole course.
Improving
Staff among the friendliest anywhere. Tee boxes were in good shape. Greens were in excellent condition. They are working hard to get their fairways back after Ian ruined them. This course and staff deserve our support to recover and ensure that there are golf options on Sanibel Island.
Still not back
Always liked this course, but it has not recovered yet from Ian.
