Had a 7:15 reservation - didn’t get out until 8 (and I consider that lucky for this course). Constant back up at the tee boxes as they book tee times every 7 minutes. They have the audacity to charge $72 for a sub par minor league course where you’re constantly in danger of getting hit by a ball from other holes. Layout is terrible
Nice Course
Course in good condition; Pace of play extremely slow, but it was Saturday and the first nice day of the season.
Course condition
Considering on again off again weather we had, vourse was pleasantly kept well! Greens were tough though, one fast green and then slow green next. He, kept us on our how! Certainly a good game overall!
To Early in the year to play
It is unfair for me to give a rating on a course that is not in season, normally the course plays well is short tight course recommended for long iron shots to keep ball in play. Today before our normal golf season just getting some swings. Course was deeply affected by recent rain, making course soggy & muddy.
Forest Park
We had a 12:30pm tee time booked, but there was a 2 Hour frost delay so it was all backed up.
We teed off at 1:05 ang got to play 13 holes, there was no rangers on the course so the pace of play was miserable & it seemed that no one cared about what was happening on the course, once they got your money they just didn’t care. They should not have allowed carts on the course, but then that’s about the money also, all in all not a good golfing experience.
Shot makers course
Short course with for the most part narrow fairways. Enjoy the convienent location and layout which calls for specific shots to score. Just not a fan of being set up in a shooting gallery design which forces you to take cover on errant tee shots. Most tee boxes and greens were beaten up and greens had many ball marks. This is normal NYC golf I suppose. Pace was horrifically slow. 5 hours 15 minutes and only finished 16 holes on a Friday. Staff is usually friendly but no course ranger to manage the notoriously slow pace.
Odd Layout
From tee to fairway, course needs some help but greens are in good condition (a little slow). The layout of the course is a bit odd. Some holes are fairly open and some are extremely tight. Some approach shots are impossible with overhanging trees in the way. You definitely use every club in your bag. Extremely short par 5's and somewhat long par 4s. Stay alert on greens and tee boxes as you can easily get hit with incoming approach shots.
Incredibly slow
Played 4 holes in two hours and left. Groups were backed up 3 on a tee. Course seemed nice but more than 6 hours is too much.
This course has a lot of personality
Played Forest Park last Sunday for maybe the 5th time. The front nine on this course is short yardage wise but still challenging to me. On the back nine the course opens up but the holes are close together and balls are flying everywhere. Better keep your head on a swivel! My main complaint was the pace of play, my playing partner and I could have finished in four hours if not for a very slow group in front of us. Also, many of the tee boxes are just dirt, no grass. I hope they plant some grass in the off season.
Good Course
Fun, shorter 18- hole course . Rather tight fairways, but if you are hitting the ball straight you can score well. Par 5s are reachable and birdies are possible for average golfers. Course in very good shape, staff very friendly.
Challenging for occasional golfers
played Forest park 9/5.course is a little difficult for p/t golfers like myself.conditions were excellent.no wait time, actually teed off 10 min early. Pace was good, never more than few min wait. Hope to play there a few more times over next 2 months.
Ok, this is a Queens course so take that into account. The first two holes seem nice enough but short. On the next 3 tee boxes, you're gonna find most of it bare, especially if you play the backs. The lay out is challenging for holes 4,5,6, and 7. Made challenging by woods tight to the fairways and trees in the way. The next few will challenge on length after the par 3. The rest are relatively easy but tight with trees probably because it's queens and land is at a premium.
The people are a different story. They don't regulate pace of play at all. Definitely gonna run into the jeans and tshirt guy who's swing looks like he's trying to swat a fly in stead of hit a ball. Despite the lack of oversite, never had a 6 hour round and people are generally respectful. I recommend it in a pinch or lacking transportation from NYC.
