Confidence Builder
You cannot find a friendlier staff. The course is in v good condition; the biggest issue is some players just won’t repair their ball marks and a few tees are showing the wear of a long season. The front nine is narrow as you go up and down hills. You can drive the par 4 first and ninth holes (white tees.) Basically, if you can keep it together thru the first six holes (par 25) you should shoot a low score. Playing strategically will pay off. I leave the driver in the bag for holes 2 thru 5, using a 7 wood. Walking the front 9 is a challenge; esp the climb up 9, but the back 9 is no sweat. The front is par 36. The back 9 is why I title this review Confidence Builder. There are four par 3’s and none are of challenging length. Total par is 34. Play 13 conservatively off the tee - again I only hit the 7 wood here - as it is the only narrow hole. Doing so should leave you a modest second shot into the green where there’s little room for error. The challenge lies in 15-16-17. It’s par 4-5-4. You need to be long and straight on these to have a comfortable shot at par. During the early part of summer I played many a Sat and Sun twilight at 5pm and easily walked a full 18. The view from the 9th green of Dunwoodie seminary, and from 18 of the NYC skyline, particularly at dusk, are memorable. If you take a cart, they are equipped with screens giving you yardage and where the carts ahead of you are at. Finally, the grill staff is also friendly and attentive; and $6 will get you two hot dogs. Hard to beat.
Nice, experience, no pressure. Customer friendly
It was a rainy start, so the course was empty
After 3 holes the rain was gone. Had a terrific round. The course is in magnificent shape. Congrats to management.. no complaints, will be back.
Tight, hilly, quirky course
This course seems to be crammed onto too small of a space, especially given how hilly is the property. There are some big elevations and slopes in the fairways, which are generally narrow and tree-lined. Too many holes leave too small of a window for a good result, because good shots will still be kicked left or right into trouble. There are quite a few blind shots, one pretty big drop-shot par 3, and fairly tame but smallish greens. Although a short course, it is a hard course to walk due to the elevations and some odd spots in the routing leaving long green to tee distances. A few holes play nicely downhill and some of the short par-4s are fun. But the tight non-descript layout doesn't lead me to go out of my way to play here again.
Short but tough
Started on the back 9. Did well. 2 Par 5. Wise open and beautiful view from 18th tee box. Front 9 felt like we were playing in a cave. Narrow, treacherous fairways with lots of hills. Would recommend, don’t know if I will make it a regular stop.
Great public course
First time playing here and was very happy with this course. Conditions were great, Staff friendly, and pace of play very good. Took us four hours and 15 minutes for a Friday mid morning
Well maintained course
Well maintained golf course. Friendly staffs and peaceful environment I would reccomend
Good for a late Sunday afternoon
4 hour round on a late Sunday afternoon is perfect. However, group in front of us were not dressed in proper golf attire and left beers all over the course - should not have been allowed on wearing tank tops
Nice value
Nice value, staff was fantastic,
Course is tight and was in good shape.
Will play again next weekend.
Great Memorial Day In Yonkers
Played Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers for the first time and was pleasantly surprised! Course was in great condition and is not easy, bring your A game!
Beautiful, scenic, hilly
Really nice course. Kept getting blasted by sprinklers, which is the only thing. It was so hot out I didn’t mind that much
The only issue is that I needed to prove to them the price I received from Golf Now they wanted to charge me more. they ultimately gave me my golf now price but it took a little effort.
First Time
Course is a little short with greens on the small side.
Fairly straight and layed out some what confusingly.
Conditions were very good as was pace. Very disappointed to find the restaurant/bar closed at 6:15, when our roound finished.
Hopefully these are early season operating hours.
Short and fun
Played on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in late October. the course was in GREAT shape especially considering how much play it must get (since it’s a public course) and how late in the season it was. 4 1/5 hour round is not bad! As mentioned in other reviews, it’s a short course but challenging enough for my 17 handicap husband and not too difficult for me....NOT a 17 handicapper. No one mentions this, but take a second to notice the view of the NYC skyline from the 18th tee box.
