Short and fun
Played on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in late October. the course was in GREAT shape especially considering how much play it must get (since it’s a public course) and how late in the season it was. 4 1/5 hour round is not bad! As mentioned in other reviews, it’s a short course but challenging enough for my 17 handicap husband and not too difficult for me....NOT a 17 handicapper. No one mentions this, but take a second to notice the view of the NYC skyline from the 18th tee box.
Nice course
Short in distance but interesting with challenging greens and hillside lies. Great course for the non life no ball hitter. Placement is much more important than distance. Weekday goldbplayed st a very wuivk enjoyable pace under 4 hours
Accuracy
Dunwoodie is a short course with some challenges
There are holes with side hill lies. You can score if you are accurate
Condition is decent., One objection is that course maintenance happens as you play and they don't seem to defer to golfers in the midst of their game
They need to be advised to step aside while a golfer is playing a hole
As always a good time. The pace of play was great. The greens and tee boxes are being aerated. Other than that the course was in its usual great shape
Usually a great course, but now aerated
Usually have a good experience at this course, but the greens were just aerated and chewed up. The staff were good enough to put a sign on the door letting people know about the aeration and reduced the usual greens fees, which was nice. The rest of the course was in good condition, though it seems there might be fairway and tee aeration soon. I would check with the course staff before playing.
Challenging course
I had a good experience. The course is in good condition and the staff are great.
Nice Place
As a new golfer, I found the course to be great. Have been playing a lot of 9 holes, and par 3 courses, so it's a nice step up. The greens were in the best condition I've seen in any of the Westchester public courses I've played at. The staff was very friendly. My wife appreciated the beauty of the course and the wildlife. Because it takes me more time to play, the golf cart had reminders in it to nudge me along and not hold anyone up. We started around 3pm, and only one pair of golfers was behind us. We asked them to play through, but no pressure at all. More experienced golfers would not have had a problem. We generally walked, but were advised by some younger golfers to use a cart. I think we should have walked. Hilly, but doable.
Pleasant course in good shape
Dunwodie is part of the Westchester County park system and it probably the easiest of the 5 courses. You can get away without a driver - only a few really require it.
Like most of the courses in Westchester, it is hilly in places, and so a golf cart may be advisable.
I play here 2 or 3 times a year and always enjoy it. The course is in good shape this year. There are a couple of holes that take a lot of water when there's heavy rain but some improvements were made and for the most part, the problems are now very minimal.
Compared to the other Westchester courses, this is the one to play when you want a quick round.
I will return
This course is laid out great. A lot a fun . It's challenging and narrow, but then there are solid holes to score on and a couple holes that are drivable. It's was slow but it was mid day on a Saturday. Overall a great time.
It could be so much better...
It took almost 5 hours to get through this round. The front 9 has some challenging holes with hidden greens and the fact it's almost entirely on the side of a hill with plenty steep terrain. Unfortunately, the fairways are littered with construction hazards and almost no grass. It's not a particularly long course and you'd do well to hit a 5-Iron off a majority of the tees.
The greens were in really good shape though. For a municipal course, I guess it's not a bad way to spend some time... but on a weekend day with a 7:37 tee time, 5 hours is a REALLY long time to take getting through a round.
Great Value
Grounds were better than some of the other local county courses and greens played well. A little bit of slow play but it seemed like people were playing holes oddly out of order on the back 9. Overall a good value play. Definitely a hilly course, you will feel it in your legs the next day! Great course for a solid workout!
