Nice Place
As a new golfer, I found the course to be great. Have been playing a lot of 9 holes, and par 3 courses, so it's a nice step up. The greens were in the best condition I've seen in any of the Westchester public courses I've played at. The staff was very friendly. My wife appreciated the beauty of the course and the wildlife. Because it takes me more time to play, the golf cart had reminders in it to nudge me along and not hold anyone up. We started around 3pm, and only one pair of golfers was behind us. We asked them to play through, but no pressure at all. More experienced golfers would not have had a problem. We generally walked, but were advised by some younger golfers to use a cart. I think we should have walked. Hilly, but doable.
Pleasant course in good shape
Dunwodie is part of the Westchester County park system and it probably the easiest of the 5 courses. You can get away without a driver - only a few really require it.
Like most of the courses in Westchester, it is hilly in places, and so a golf cart may be advisable.
I play here 2 or 3 times a year and always enjoy it. The course is in good shape this year. There are a couple of holes that take a lot of water when there's heavy rain but some improvements were made and for the most part, the problems are now very minimal.
Compared to the other Westchester courses, this is the one to play when you want a quick round.
I will return
This course is laid out great. A lot a fun . It's challenging and narrow, but then there are solid holes to score on and a couple holes that are drivable. It's was slow but it was mid day on a Saturday. Overall a great time.
It could be so much better...
It took almost 5 hours to get through this round. The front 9 has some challenging holes with hidden greens and the fact it's almost entirely on the side of a hill with plenty steep terrain. Unfortunately, the fairways are littered with construction hazards and almost no grass. It's not a particularly long course and you'd do well to hit a 5-Iron off a majority of the tees.
The greens were in really good shape though. For a municipal course, I guess it's not a bad way to spend some time... but on a weekend day with a 7:37 tee time, 5 hours is a REALLY long time to take getting through a round.
Great Value
Grounds were better than some of the other local county courses and greens played well. A little bit of slow play but it seemed like people were playing holes oddly out of order on the back 9. Overall a good value play. Definitely a hilly course, you will feel it in your legs the next day! Great course for a solid workout!
Enjoyable
Had a good time, course in good shape. Greens well manicured
Westchester County
Short and tight at this county course. Some interesting holes. My favorites were #9, short par 4, straight up hill. And #11, par 5 with OB left and trees and bunkers right. Keep it to the right though, because the green is tucked in left behind the trees. Conditions were good throughout. Greens would be treacherous if they were cut shorter.
Always enjoy playing there. The greens were fast but the course was in good shape
The Club D
A little gem overlooking NYC
Shot makers course, thinking required
Not bad course conditions in the later half of October. Got a late afternoon start on a Sunday so I didn't expect to finish. Despite its short length, this track will definitely test your accuracy. From tee shots to approaches, solid shot making is a must or you could lose your ball. Definitely a place that will frustrate someone who uses a driver on all par fours and fives. Great local track for Westchester residents and not a bad change of scenery for NYC residents as well.
Decent for a weekday round.
The course was in average condition. Some spots needed repair, a couple of greens have bare spots. Only a couple of spots were unplayable. Totally expected for fall golf on a city course.
The good: The carts have GPS built in. It's nice to click on the screen and know exactly how far to the pin.
The bad: The carts have GPS built in with control of the golf cart. There are 'no go' areas of the course you can't take the carts. While some of the areas make sense, like the fringe, other spaces are just baffling, like driving down the rough on one fairway.
These areas aren't notated on the gps screen until you enter one of them. When you enter these areas, you have to REVERSE OUT of the zone. You can't turn around and drive forward, you can only go only in reverse. (Guys on the next tee box loved the reverse beeeeeeeeeep.) It also makes you back out at about 2mph. Once you clear the forbidden zone, it reverts back to full-speed reverse without warning.
The driving range is nice, lots of stalls and a bucket of 70 balls is $6. Didn't try the food or the bar.
The course was fun enough after 18 we did another 9 holes.
Fairways are narrow in places.
Narrow but fair
I played dunwoodie because I usually play split rock but they were having an event that day and dunwoodie was only an extra few miles away. I was pleasantly surprised too because the course was beautiful and had some good opportunities for a high handi capper like myself to get close to the hole and actually score! However the shortness is balanced out by the narrowness as well... So if you're hitting them straight you're golden and especially on the few drivable par 4s and short par 3s. The staff and people were also friendly and the carts have GPS which I love because you're not looking for markers or whit blue and red posts to decide a club to use. I don't have a range finder so big plus for me. I like this course a lot so I def. recommend it.
Course needs work!!!!
Fairways and greens in poor condition.Saw a group of SEVEN(7) out in the fairway on 16 tearing it up with carts and clubs..Not good. Then they all drove right up to the Green and had a party on it. That's when I realized why every hole had a big mark next to each cup. These clowns smashed the flag right next to the cup. Some cups were dislodged. The rangers saw this group moving around and did nothing. Dunwoodie is Dunwoodie. What more can I say.Hope to not see that group again. CHEERS!!
We're so sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your round with us! We will certainly pass along the information you provided.
Great staff but, course needs work
Staff was great and super friendly and helpful. Greens were painfully slow and the course has some very poor areas. It is a county course but, investing a little money in it good make it a great course.
As for the layout, it is short and tight. Straight long irons are key to scoring low.
