Fun day of golf.
Playing on December 28 in NE Ohio is a bonus. Course was in good shape for the time of year. Great layout and super friendly staff. Had a great day of golf. Highly recommend and I will play again.
Raintree Country Club - South Course
The South Course at Raintree Country Club provides an interesting contrast to its sister course. While the North Course features a lot of elevation changes from hole to hole, and demands accurate driving, the South course is much flatter and gives you more room off the tee. The South Course very much reminds one of an inland low-country course. There are gentle doglegs on most holes. Water comes into play on a half-dozen of the holes. There are two par 3s that are entire carries over water. Water also basically runs along the entirety of the par-4 twelfth hole. The course also goes out and back; it does not circle back to the clubhouse after nine holes.
The course was in immaculate condition with one exception. There were quite a few unrepaired pitch marks on every green, something that I did not experience when I played the North Course at Raintree. The Bermuda rough was also very thick in quite a few areas, which made finding errant shots difficult.
Regardless, it was a pleasure to play. The three par 3's and three par 5's on the front provide a great deal of variety on the front nine. I would like to see some yardage differences among the five par three's on the South course. From the white tees, the listed yardages are 140, 178, 140, 176, and 178.
The practice facilities, staff, and clubhouse were all top notch as well.
Raintree Country Club - North Course
Played the North Course at Raintree Country Club today. Raintree has 36 holes in addition to a large pool and tennis courts. The pro shop and locker room facilities are very nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a great short game area. The practice range, although narrow, is quite nice. There are artificial grass hitting areas in addition to the natural turf spaces. They also have a new fleet of electric golf carts.
The North Course is a Par 72 with a typical 4-14-4 setup. Water comes into play on four of the holes. There are 2 par 3's that play basically entirely over water. Most of the par 4's and par 5's dogleg at some point. There is also a decent amount of elevation change on the course. Some holes play downhill, others play uphill. The course winds through a housing development, and OB encroaches on several holes, making driving accuracy a key. The primary challenge to the course are the greens. Many are guarded by bunkers; others are perched up above the level of the fairway. The greens are generally large, and the club uses 5 pin positions per green.
The course is currently in excellent shape. The bermuda on the fairways is lush, and the rough is quite thick. Some of the greenside rough is deep enough to almost swallow a ball. Raintree has done an excellent job of keeping their bent greens in great shape despite the summer heat.
