Best bets for the 2025 PGA Championship

The PGA Championship returns to Quail Hollow for the first time since Justin Thomas won in 2017. Who will win this year?

Xander Schauffele looks to win back-to-back PGA Championships.

Once again, we are storyline-rich heading into the second major championship of the year.

Can Rory continue his hot play at a course he loves and potentially start some single-year grand slam chatter? Could Jordan Spieth complete the career grand slam just a month after Rory did? Is Scottie back to his 2024 ways following his utter domination in Texas? Will history repeat itself at Quail Hollow for a surging Justin Thomas? Can Bryson bounce back from his disappointing Sunday at Augusta and continue his great play at majors? There are too many to list and it looks like we are in store for a fantastic championship at a familiar venue.

So, who is worth a wager this week?

We’ve done two golf betting previews this year and Rory has won both (Players and Masters). I’ve failed to pick him either time! Probably time to wisen up… or is it? I don’t want to jinx him, so let’s make it three in a row!

At +450, I will choose to pass on Rory once again, but he is rightfully a near co-favorite with Scottie Scheffler. He dominates at Quail Hollow and is maybe playing the best golf of his career.

There are two players that make the most sense this week - one is Rory and the other is my first pick to win the 2025 PGA Championship.

The PGA Championship returns to Quail Hollow for the first time since 2017.

Bryson DeChambeau: 14-1 (DraftKings)

Bryson provided my lone win since starting these previews at Pinehurst last year, and I’m hoping a second will come this week. He’s been an everpresent figure towards the top of leaderboards at majors since the start of last year. He’s notched four top six finishes in that span, and Quail Hollow sets up perfectly to be his fifth. Bryson’s distance helps him even more at Quail Hollow than most courses. His last two events at Quail Hollow both ended in top 10s and he recently won on LIV. If I could pick two players this week, not factoring odds, I would take Bryson and Rory. With his much better odds of 14-1, I’m going with Bryson.

Xander Schauffele: 20-1 (FanDuel)

The defending PGA Champion finished solo second at Quail Hollow in 2024 and 2023 and is priced at +2000? I’ll take the chances that his slow start to this season gets jump-started on a course his game meshes well with. He proved last year that he has what it takes to close out big events and if he does it again this week it would be a staggering three major wins in his last five starts.

Also, my favorite bet of the week is Xander to finish top 20 at -110 (FanDuel).

Sepp Straka: 65-1 (FanDuel)

Truist Championship 2025 - Final Round
Sepp Straka just won the 2025 Truist Championship. Could he go back-to-back at the PGA Championship?

I hate picking a guy who just won because it seems lazy, but this number seems way too high. Sepp is third in scoring average on the PGA Tour this year (behind Rory and Scottie), he's won twice in 2025 and he finished T8 at Quail Hollow last year. His lack of distance could be problematic, but if the rough is more penal this year since it’s a major, his stellar accuracy off the tee could provide a big lift to his chances.

Cameron Young: 300-1 (FanDuel)

One dart-throw to finish it out. It’s been a rough stretch for Young over the past few months; he's missed five cuts in his last nine starts. But perhaps a little glimpse of form emerged this past weekend as he shot a Sunday 66 leading to a T7 finish at the Truist. Young’s power is a great weapon at Quail Hollow and could give him a chance to turn around his season in a big way. Getting 300-1 is nice for a small wager, but a top 10 at 16-1 is what a wiser person would do.
