About
Quail Creek Golf Club is tied for being the most difficult public course in the St. Louis area. Designed by Hale Irwin, the course is laid across rolling hills laced with meandering streams. The layout requires accuracy with narrow fairways and hard-to-read greens. Water hazards come into play frequently as do trees and bunkers. It is a formidable test for any skill level. Most of the holes have a risk-reward element, making the course more accessible by placing an emphasis on strategy over strength. One of the most memorable holes is the par-5 ninth. It will favor golfers who successfully cut the corner, making it possible to reach the green in two. This tricky hole demands accurate mid-iron play. Quail Creek Golf Club finishes with an interesting par 4 that has water along the left side of both the fairway and green.

Greens were the worst
The greens at this course used to be one of the highlights. However, last time we played, greens were almost unplayable. There wasn't one green that didn't have a dead spot. For the price, I will not be playing this course again.
DO NOT PLAY
This year quail creek seems to have completely given up on maintaining the course. They have completely lost the greens, and the tee boxes and fairways are a mix of dirt spots and crab grass. It is a shame they have let it get this bad because quail is difficult course that is a true test of golf. i will not be playing here any time soon.

Narrow fairways
Fairways were very narrow and challenging. I'm a 7 handicap and I lost 5 balls. Greens were in pretty bad shape. I guess from all the rain we've had this summer. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would play again.

I've come to expect more from Quail
I have been playing here for about 15 years. I was highly disapointed in the course conditions. I understand the weather has been rainy and not cooperating much but you have to be able to do much better like some of the other courses in the area. Maybe even lower the price so golfers do not feel like they wasted money thinking they were going to get a better course.

Fun course to play . . .
This was a fun course to play although the fairways were much to be desired. Would have given 4 stars if the fairways were in better condition. Other than that I think the course is well designed to be fun round for various skill levels. The greens were in great shape and the rough along side the fairways were also in great shape. Tee boxes average.
I think better signage would be a plus as navigating from hole to hole for first timers can be a little tough. This is another course where I wish I drove around first looking at all the holes to get a better perspective on where to drive. I know my second visit I'll get a better score.
As for as the pricing goes I have played on other 55+/- dollar courses with better fairways so I think the price is a tad steep for this course. I will definitely go back hopefully with a coupon or a deal when I book my next tee time at Quail Creek.

Really bad shape
I played here on May 18th and was appalled at the condition of the course, particularly the fairways, which are basically unplayable. Played again on June 7th, thinking things might have improved somewhat. Instead, course conditions were just as bad, and I also noticed the tee boxes were in very poor shape (like you can't get the tee in the ground).
There was standing water all over the course, even though we hadn't had much rain the last few days, and again the fairways were indescribably bad, and unplayable.
The real problem is, they are charging higher greens fees than ever. It's a lethal combination to charge higher greens fees for a course that's in worse shape than any I've seen in the area. Late spring is supposed to be the peak time for the aesthetics of a golf course before you get into the dry summer months, and for it to be in this bad a shape is really disappointing.
It's a shame, I've been coming here for years and this has always been one of my favorites. I thought things were supposed to get better with the new ownership. What happened??
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us. Unfortunately, during the time of both your rounds, our course was in pretty rough shape. We will admit that. The weather this season has made is extremely difficult for not just us, but several courses around the St Louis area. Although the conditions during your visit were not ideal, we are still in need of revenues to conduct the required maintenance to get the course back into pristine conditions. We believe in the dynamic pricing model, in which we have several different rates types, based on time and demand, to ensure that there is a rate out there for everyone. With the revenues we've collected, we've been able to start making huge improvements to the facility. Over the last couple of years, we've gotten new carts, restored the size of the greens, and patched up the cart paths. We will say, the course is in MUCH better condition now than it was last month. Neat course
The service was excellent for a pub course. some warm weather will do the bermuda fairways and tee boxes some justice. But overall good condition. greens rolled and held great. The lay out offers alot of everything. par 3's are longish which I like. Get a deep fried Brat! amazing!

Great course but landscaping needs vast improvement
Love playing this course, but the cart paths and tee boxes were in horrible condition. One of the greens keepers sa D they didn't buy grass seed the past two years for the tee boxes. That's a shame because this can be a great looking course if they kept better care of it. Otherwise, love the course design and how it plays.
Used to be a nice course
Lack of proper care is ruining what ought to be a nice course. BAD tee boxes, lots of clover and bare spots throughout course.
They have made some improvements, like making the tee shot less difficult on #10 by cutting back trees and enclosing the creek. But they need to get the basics right.

Course was great
Course was great overall. Greens were great. Fairways were solid. A few water spots but easy fixes. Will definitely be back.

Bad shape
This course is a historically good course but it is in terrible shape. I had to move several balls to new spots on terrible fairways. The fairways were basically dirt. The grass was dead in most places. The greens were in good shape. Many tee boxes were in bad shape too. I was disappointed at the amount they charged to play on such a bad shape course. I have played here years ago, and it was always in pretty good shape. I was severely disappointed.

Not worth the money....
We live close to here and used to play here a lot. New owners took over and jacked the prices up to what the nicer courses charge... Only problem is this is nowhere near a nicer course. The greens were dry as the sahara, and so many bald patches, that it was like playing a winter round. The faiways are just as patchy. No marshalls on the course, flag was missing on one of the holes(so my rangefinder was useless there). The food was mediocre as well. It's a shame they try to charge pricey rates, and have the course in such crumby shape, but then there are a lot less people playing here. We will not be back... And that stinks, because we had a lot of fun here i past years....

layout of coarse was challenging
greens were in fair shape but the tee boxes and fairways were terrible. playing out of the rough was better than playing in the fairways.

Course was in bad shape
I know it's only April, but this course has gotten worse and worse each year. The fairways were very patchy, greens bumpy, and tee boxes were also in bad condition.

Disapointed
# 14 Tee barely has any grass and is very uneven.
Watch out for grounds crew. They never look up when working the traps. But worse, they come flying up to the green in the middle of your putt!

Nice layout.
Other than the condition of the tee boxes, I enjoyed playing the course very much. I shall Play here again as it suits my level of play.

Snuck in a round in December
Course was in good shape for December. They are improving 10, which should speed play some. Greens were in very good shape. Course was cart path only due to heavy rains just a couple of days before we went out.
Coming around
New operators of this course are making some serious changes to improve the quality of the course. Currently it looks a lttle llike a patient a few days removed from surgery. In a year or two you should find much improved conditions and layout. Play it now, play it later, but play it eather way.
A Gem gone bad
This used to be the top public course in St. Louis. Amazing layout. It is now a pasture for goats, gophers, and deer. Nature and neglect has destroyed this track. DO NOT PLAY
