Quail Creek Golf Course
About
Quail Creek Golf Club is tied for being the most difficult public course in the St. Louis area. Designed by Hale Irwin, the course is laid across rolling hills laced with meandering streams. The layout requires accuracy with narrow fairways and hard-to-read greens. Water hazards come into play frequently as do trees and bunkers. It is a formidable test for any skill level. Most of the holes have a risk-reward element, making the course more accessible by placing an emphasis on strategy over strength. One of the most memorable holes is the par-5 ninth. It will favor golfers who successfully cut the corner, making it possible to reach the green in two. This tricky hole demands accurate mid-iron play. Quail Creek Golf Club finishes with an interesting par 4 that has water along the left side of both the fairway and green.

The WORST conditions in years!
I was embarrassed by the conditions. No grass in the fairways, rough had very little grass and mor crabgrass, and the greens had oil streaks from the mowers.
I wanted to treat a friend to a nice round of golf. Quail Creek is NOT the place to bring anybody as it was terrible.
I spoke to the people at the desk about the conditions. Their response was - If we don't get people at full price we cannot put money back into the course. I will never play at Quail Creek again!
Course in bad shape
Besides the last four holes the course is in really bad shape. The fairways are mainly dirt and weeds.
Not good
Still a goat ranch. Fairways & tee boxes have no grass. I played here when it was a gem. It was a goat ranch & now unfortunately still is...
This course has a good layout
Enjoyed the round , course has several risk and reward shots. Tee boxes need some work and the fairways were thin as far as turf thickness go's, the greens were in great shape and quick. Over all 3 out of 5 stars.
great design, poor fairway condition
excellent design, love the updates being done to the course. the fairways and tee boxes were in very poor condition, but the greens were excellent.
Needed improvements being made
I've played this course many many times. The old owners were letting it get run down. The new owners now are turning it back into its original nice condition. You can tell they have been doing a lot of work on the course and it shows. Nice layout and challenging course. If you haven't played Quail Creek you should give it try.
Enjoyed the cheeper rate
Had a very nice day and a nice falicity . Will play again .
I've played better
I've usually enjoyed playing this course, but yesterday was very frustrated with the greens. It may be because it's early in the season, but I felt they were too firm and not true. They didn't hold as well either. The other frustratiion was the extremely slow play due to a 4 some in front of us. Whyaern't there marshals on courses any more, not that ir would make much of a difference, so many golfers are not aware of letting others play through. When I've complained I get well I've talked to them and they say they are paling fast. If you see a group behind you waiting on every hole, "LET THEM PLAY THROUGH!!!!"
Decent course, great location
We played in late Feb. Minus the greens, the course was completely brown, as with all others around here at this time. The browning and dryness of the rough made it play like the fiarway, which was advantageous for players of our skill. While not exactly parallel, many of the fairways were close to one another.
We enjoyed our round at a great pace, and could have played faster as there were not many people out.
The Club house is in great condition and the staff was really friendly. I think they could use a couple more hands, as the man tending the pro-shop desk was also the chef. He was extremely helpful though, and made it easy to order our food when we walked in at the turn.
I paid the golfnow Hot Deal rate, and I felt that I had paid the sufficient price for this course. As this course is in the metropolitan area I would imagine that it is far more busy during the normal season. Knowing that this would impact the pace of play, I'm not sure that I will often visit this course in the regular season. I would, however, recommend playing to anyone who asks specifically about this course.
A great layout, well-maintained, and scenic to boot!
This very affordable course has become my favorite in the St.Louis area since playing it for the for the first time two months ago. The layout is both interesting and challenging, especially if played from either of the back tees. If you can hit straight drives you can avoid many of the built-in pitfalls of this well-planned course. I've learned how to stay out of trouble on the majority of the holes but am still trying to master the greens, which are well-kept and fast.
Clubhouse food is above average and the entire staff is attentive. You'll feel appreciated and will want to return.
Fun Course
Quail Creek has some really interesting holes and you will use all the clubs in your bag. The greens were extremely fast which made putting a real challenge, nothing on the greens to hold the ball.
Many of the fairways are narrow so placement is important. Course had maintenance people working in mid-November which is something good to see.
The GolfNow Hot Deal made this course a great value. I may play here again as a result.
Great approaches to greens!
For the fall/winter time of the year you can't expect the fairways to be pristine but the course has always been maintained good and conditions on the greens still gave for great opportunities. Some of the holes on the front AND back nine are really memorable layouts. You can tell the staff and maintenance team are staying up on and making upgrades to keep the course in great condition. For the hotdeal prices you can sometimes find on golfnow this is one of my favorite courses to play when its not busy!
Wish I Could Still Book Here
Quail is always a good play and is quite a challenge from the back tees.
I sincerely hope golfnow brings this one back.
Thank you for posting the review... It is a shame that one of the nicer courses in the area has gone to pot!
