Rock Barn Golf and Spa - Jackson Course
About
Rock Barn Golf & Spa offers two championship courses, one designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and the other by Tom Jackson. Nestled within the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the golf courses are provided with swiftly moving brooks and sparkling lakes that accent the wooded hills and lush, grassy meadows. The Jackson Course tumbles across picturesque valleys, offering both dramatic elevation changes and beautiful scenery. The layout is shorter and less demanding than the Jones Course but it is a challenge nonetheless. The undulating terrain demands accuracy and perfect ball placement. Fast greens are balanced by generous fairways. Water hazards also come into play. The course starts out intimidatingly with a narrow, uphill par 5 but the rest of the course is not quite as daunting.

Wonderful: Proffesional: Makes Golf Affordable
After the dormant grass comes back in two weeks and the greens fill in from the punching, it will be perfect. Extremely great prices. I can actually with these great deals.
Great character, beautiful surrounding
I enjoyed playing the Jackson Course at The Rock Barn. It was early season and will be greatly improved as things begin to bloom.
Lots of blind shots due to elevation changes but well put together.
Pace of play was quite slow and the hotdog at the turn was quite possibly the most egregious thing ever to be passed off as food. Had jalepeno's, goat cheese and I believe a touch of furniture polish. Nicely laid out and lots of sand to keep you honest. Par 3's were quite challenging with the wind and elevation changes.
Great Course
This course is in great condition and is my personal favorite. . The greens are fast and the bunkers are full of sand. There are many very challenging holes that will make you think before hitting. The only drawback I have ever experienced at the facility is the carts look good and clean but the cart always runs out before the round is over. Cart batteries or changers need attention.
Great course!!!
One of the best courses in the area. Many difficult position tee shots and well protected greens.
All around great course
this is a perfect choice if you want to play a difficult but fair course in the Charlotte area. it requires you to layup in the right spot and there is about 4 holes where you have to leave driver in the bag. I played from the Blues (6600 yards) and there is a few holes where you can go driver wedge and then there is some where you go driver 3 iron for par fours.
The course is in perfect condition and it is beautiful to look at with all the trees, creeks and hilly terrain.
It is a must play in the Charlotte area.
Very challenging.
The staff at this course was very friendly. The course was in excellent shape for wintertime. The fairways were wide, plush with no dry spots.
Played the Jackson course
this course though dorment was in better shape than most courses in bloom. We played the blues at almost 6000 yards, The golds were not out on the front nine. Even at only 6000 yards this course makes you hit everyclub in the bag. Fantastic course and the greens putted true and again, quicker than most in season. great value, great staff, and great course!!!
Rock Barn Jackson Course...Nice shape for December golf
The course was in good shape for this time of year. The greens were smooth and enjoyable to putt on. This is not a bombers course. You have to think your way around it off the tee. I think it was playing about 6400yds. Some tricky and challenging holes if you dont put alot of thought into your shots. I enjoyed it.
Will play again...

Very Tough but very fair
Great course in awesome shape for December. You hit the ball well, you will score well, but there is trouble if you miss it left or right on many holes. Greens were very fast, but rolled well. Only negative was there wasn't a acrt girl on a very mild Saturday.
The Jones Course is one of the best in the Charlotte area.
I've only played here twice, but it is one of my favorite "tough" courses in the area. It's got some length, some forced carries, but is not overly penal. Greens are pretty ample and roll true. The last time I played here was just after the Championship Tour event in October, and obviously the course was in immaculate condition. I also had my very first hole-in-one that round, #3, 192 yards! The pro shop and dining room staff have always been very friendly and helpful. Overall, it is a great experience and definitely a must-play course.
Beautiful, but greens way to shaggy, needs cutting.
Nice course, nice staff. However Jackson course greens need some help. Lots of better greens in surrounding area for the money. Don't pay more than 20 to play here, not worth it
Fun course in really good condition for December
Enjoyable course in good condition and for the price really good value.
Excellent facility
I play here often so I am little biased. This is one of the best 'public' courses in the area (Verdict Ridge is the other). There are two 18 hole courses: Jones & Jackson (Jones hosts a Senior tour event every year and is more difficult). Both are well maintained year-round and the fess are reasonable. (FYI - the ratings apply to the Jackson side)
The course is always in great shape.
This course is VERY enjoyable by ALL levels of golfers.
Rock Barn (Jackson)
This is what golf is all about to the weekend golfer. Staff is friendly and the course is always is wonderful condition. Took my dad (20 handicap) and he loved it. Would play there every week if I could. A Must Play!!!!
The Jackson course was in great shape . Difficult but very fair if you hit a good shot.
It was a blustery day with temps only getting to the low 50's , but with the course being in such good shape and the staff being so welcoming that our group totaly forgot about the conditions. The starter was very pleasant and helpful. The course was SWEET. Greens just fast enough to keep you on your toes and the rough high and thick enough to make you work off the tee. All in all everyone in my group enjoyed themselves. This round was the last round for one of our guys (he is having knee surgery) for a while so we are all very glad we chose this course to play. Probably going to play this one or the Jones course when he comes back.
This course has a very good layout with some unique holes that make you think befire you hit your shot.
I found this course (the Rock Barn Jackson course) a lot of fun to play with an assortment of different types of holes to play. The course was somewhat short but seemed to play longer than the yardage. It was a hilly course with many great views of many of the holes. Course condition was good and close to pristine.
nice course for the money
Jackson course is player friendly. You can post a decent score from all tees and go home happy, contrary to Jones Championship course where the average golfer goes home frustrated.
Take a lot of guests to Jackson course and they always like it.
Incredible Value!
I love the Jackson course. It is challenging but reasonable. Tees, fairways and greens are always in great shape.
