About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Golfer Reviews
Slight improvements needed.
Only one extremely slow person at the counter was painful. He was mostly friendly but a bit cranky and very slow. He also had trouble keeping track. While we paid for our tee time, he helped ensure we paid the correct rate, but forgot we needed to rent a set of clubs. We didn't realize until out of line and had to wait another 25 minutes to go through the line again.
Unfortunately the Cafe was closed after we finished our front 9 so it made for an aggravating back 9.
We may not be back, but if so, we'll need to plan much better. Normally arriving more than an hour before tee time is ok, but we needed closer to 2 hours prior.
This was my worst experience in quite a few years golfing.
Great iron test
You must keep it in the fairway; to avoid playing pinball in the trees; the course is tight and you need to reach the dogleg on some long tough par 4s; can’t beat this for the value! Will definitely be back!
perfect little course for quiet game
for its value, it's one of the best course i can play on weekend. fairly quiet with older gens.
plyaed 3 times here already.
only complain that I have is not related to the course but more of group of players who don't seem to care much about others. two different couples (won't state their race) two different time, even though our pace was not slow or anything (both time we finished faster than 4 hours), they would hit instead of waiting, their balls reaching within 10 ft from us. other than those incidents, the course itself, i would give 8/10.
A Sourh Sound gem
Plan ahead fos getting on this military facility. Real ID, Vehicle registration, and proof of insurance are required. Period. Expect a 15 minute delay getting a base pass.
But it is worth the effort.
The course is manned by friendly people, and the pro shop.is top notch (I didn't try the onsite restaurant, so no comment there).
Expect conditions that are wetter than surrounding courses, but that is better than watching nice shots bounce off in unexpected ways. Exception are the trees, but if that is where you hit your ball, then that is on you.
I am rating this 5 stars because for the price, you will be hard pressed to find something better.
A little disappointing
Grass is a little thin or missing in many places in the fairway and rough. Not counting the par 3's, half the holes are dogleg lefts; one to the right. Carts are worn out. Greens are pretty good, just slow.
Golf Day
Great day on the course with 2 friends. The only complaint was the sands traps with not much sand . Hardly any in several.
Friendly staff
The staff at Whispering Firs were very helpful. They were having an issue with their POS system and adapted to allow me to pay in a timely manner. The staff at the restaurant were also very engaged and made allowances to allow me to move to the head of the line as I was at the turn!! Great service ove all!!
A Serene Visit With Nature
A peaceful stroll through the towering firs. And sometimes amongst them. The course was in pretty good shape. The hardest holes are the extreme doglegs. One or two we’re almost U-Turns. I don’t know if the firs were whispering, but I think I heard them laughing at me a few times.
Great value!!
Overall the course was in great condition. The staff was friendly and helpful!
The greens were a little rough and need to be rolled. Other than that, it was a good value for the round.
Greens
The putting green was not in good condition, greens were slower than normal
greens
Lots of tree debris, very bumpy and inconsistent. Price should have reflected that.
