Plugged and sanded and did not notify
Course was in rough condition and did not tell me, or notify on tee off site. Their website did not mention it either. Person I played with said they plugged it Monday and today is Saturday. It seems to me it is more like the third day after plugging than 5 days. Stil, I traveled a ways to play this course and even with a discount because of the condition of the course, I would have come here to play another time.
Birthday gift
The positives include the layout, the greens and fairways were great for this time me of year. The bunkers needed sand with many having the deep plastic (?) or dirt layer exposed.
The pace of play-6 hours was difficult. On the back nine, members just joined in and made groups of six playing at a leisurely rate. Waiting 20 minutes at times at the tee boxes! ( I found out they were members because the Marshal told us).
Unfortunately us 60+y/o players don’t do well with sitting for 20 minutes to hit a shot. Will definitely come back but hope we don’t have the same problem next time!
SU Lover
Decent course in fairly good shape but not nearly as good as I was expecting. Pace of play was ridiculous. There were groups in front of us that obviously knew each other. At times they would be playing in 6somes or even 8somes. Marshall rode around and never said anything. 5 and a half hours is a long time for a round. For the price of this course i was expecting a much nicer groomed course.
Could be in better shape. Wear waterproof shoes.
I’ve played Copper Valley before and have definitely seen it in much better shape.
The biggest issue was how incredibly wet and muddy the course was. There were swampy areas all around the fringes and even in the fairways. You could hit a great drive right down the middle of the fairway and have your ball plug almost two inches into the ground. Some areas around the greens literally felt like you were stepping on an underground water trampoline.
There were also deep tire tracks all along the sides of the cart paths where carts had sunk into the mud. Oddly enough, while much of the course was soaking wet, there were also very dry spots in some of the bunkers where you could actually see the plastic lining underneath.
The pace of play was probably the most frustrating part. There were marshals driving around, but they didn’t seem to be enforcing pace. A foursome two groups ahead of us had another twosome join them because they were locals who lived on the course, so they were playing as a group of six. The round ended up taking almost six hours. Meanwhile, the group directly in front of us was only a twosome, we were a twosome, and the group behind us was a single. It seems like grouping some of us together and not allowing a sixsome would have helped tremendously.
The 18th green was also in particularly rough shape, which was surprising considering it’s such a prominent finishing hole right next to the clubhouse.
There are definitely positives. The grass that wasn’t waterlogged was nicely mowed, there are some really beautiful holes and views, and I really enjoy the elevation changes throughout the course. It has the potential to be a very enjoyable round.
Unfortunately, between the extremely wet conditions, mud, bunker issues, and nearly six-hour pace of play, this particular round was pretty disappointing. I’ve seen Copper Valley in much better condition and hope it gets back there.
Great layout!
Great layout. Different types of holes, with plenty of hazards. A nice scenic course too.
Friendly professional staff and course in fantastic condition
My son and I played Copper Valley and staff was friendly & professional from the moment we parked our car. Overall course condition was fantastic. A couple bunkers were in need or were under repair, but other than this, the fairways and greens were in exceptional condition. I highly recommend this course and we'll worth the drive to get to Copper Valley. We'll definitely play again!
Special shout out to Turner in the pro shop for checking us in with friendly professional demeanor. Listening to him greet and talk with others was obvious he enjoys his position and takes care of golfers!
Country club conditions
Great course, great condition, pace of play was a bit backed up but not horrible. Restaurant was great, awesome service, coming back for sure
A great foothill golf course.
I played Copper Valley several times always enjoy myself. It can be challenging, especially if you don’t keep it the fairway. Beautiful views on every hole.
Rough time but great golf course.
We had a very good time at a very challenging course (if you do not play it often) course. The course was great n great shape. Clubhouse staff were very friendly. The starter, not so much. They had a shotgun start, not sure if they always do this but it was fine. If you’re not a golfer that plays target golf this might not be the one for you. You are deeply penalized for off centered hits. I mean don’t even look for the ball, drop and continue. Overall the wife and I enjoy ourselves. We will be back.
Good challenge, good layout, one caveat.
First time playing and, after only 3 holes, we knew we liked the course and would be back. The one caveat to the very good conditions was the fairway sand traps. They were a mish-mash of sand and landscape fabric. Not playable. I've golfed maybe 75 courses and I've never seen that before! The greenside bunkers were normal sand - only the fairway bunkers had the weirdness.
Amazing Course
Highly recommend playing it at this time of the year! Fairways are green and greens are amazing.
