Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Las Sendas Golf Club's course, opened in 1995 and among the toughest U.S. courses. Two Zagat surveys have ranked it among the top 50 U.S. golf courses.

Las Sendas Golf Club offers a desert course demanding top play as it takes golfers through the Usery Mountains, with a vista of Phoenix as the tradeoff for managing rough land close to 1,800 feet above the desert. Jones didn't create a course with whimsical decorations like railroad ties, and he didn't build targets. The golf course is for those who strategize, mapping the way from tee to green.

After a round at Las Sendas Golf Club, head to Las Sendas Grille, for the full bar, including wines from California, Australia and Europe, as well as four tap beers and domestic and imported bottles.

A gem of a course

We play Las Sendas 4-6 times a year because of the great design, challenging test of golf, and excellent staff.

Usually the course conditions are top notch but for the middle of July, conditions were average to good. Still, above many other courses in the area.

great course, tough shape

Love this course but the conditions were tough. Greens plugged and rough, fairways even worse. It will need some time to fill in.

Skip it

Based on location and reviews we thought we were in for terrific conditions. Big mistake. The views are beautiful but the course is pretty beat up. Large dirt patches in the fairway and the ‘sand’ traps are basically desert rock. We are locals and decided that we wouldn’t play here again. Also, the drink cart, snack shop closed at 2pm… so no food, water, etc. would play Longbow 100 times before playing here again.

Rough conditions

Played an early morning tee time. Being summer and the fact the green were punched probably a few weeks prior… this review is not based on that. The course was beat up. I played here during fall last year and the course was great. This time the course was mostly dirt and dead grass. The fairways were spotty and so much of the course had ground under repair areas… paid $100 for a Saturday morning tee time… won’t be coming back here for a summer round.

Golf Course Conditions

The golf course was in okay shape. Fairways were spotty and greens still very sandy with bare spots.

Course in bad shape

It was disappointing to see the greens and fairways in such poor shape. Granted it is summer, but there should be some kind of warning. I have played this course in the fall and it was beautiful. For how bad they let it go in the summer, they should just close it until fall.

Great course/tip requested

First time playing here and it was great. Granted it wasn’t in winter shape but we expected that. The value for this course is tremendous. Honestly my only complaint is the expectation to tip at the end. My group just dropped about a grand on the course and the starter at the first tee encouraged us to “help” the club washer out on the last tee. As expected he started cleaning our clubs without asking. This is pretty standard but I simply don’t like being asked to tip. That’s my only complaint and it is a minor one

Greens are punched

The greens were just recently punched, and appeared to be over sanded. Seemed to be hiding bare spots. No fringe present on most greens. Fairways sparse . Course is in horrible shape. Groundbreaking working on every hole well into the afternoon. Not a pleasant experience.

Will not be back.

$90 in summer with punch greens not good

I'm sure you hear this all the time, but they need to put a course alert when they just punched the greens $90 bucks in the summer with the punch greens and no rain check to come back.

Mostly blind tee shots

First time playing La Sendas ,so I didn’t t know what to expect. .

Pros

Course was in good shape for summer play.

Very scenic with elevation changes throughout course

Bunkers in great shape

Cons

GPS sits on bottom of carts , hard to read if beverages rest in cup holders , interface is slow to respond

Too many tee boxes and most are elevated to the right so it’s hard to spot .

Too many blind tee shots , drives were mostly a guessing game

Overall , las sendas was a challenging course where most drives run away from fairway if drive is left or right . Need to play more than once to score well here .

Las Sendas Struggling

Let me start by saying I really like this course. It’s close to home, offers a challenging layout, has beautiful wildlife and scenery, and the staff has always been incredibly friendly and welcoming.

That said, I hadn’t played here in a few years, and unfortunately the course conditions were not what I remembered—even considering the challenges of summer golf. The fairways were very patchy, the bunkers had little to no sand, and the greens were struggling with grass coverage. Many of the greens were extremely bumpy where grass remained, and the speeds varied significantly from one green to another.

At a $95 price point, I just don’t feel the overall condition justified the cost, especially when there are several other courses in the area currently offering better playing conditions for less money.

I hope the course can get back to the shape I remember because it truly is a fun and unique place to play, and I would love to return once conditions improve.

Pace of Play & Poor green condition

I used to really like this course. I don’t know if they are struggling for money but they shouldn’t be letting tee times out every 5 minutes. Pace of play was terrible and I teed off at 6:40. Waited on every hole. All because they want to sell as many tee times as possible. It’s honestly sad because they’ve ruined a good course. The greens were also in bad shape, muddy.

Not worth the time

Not sure what the problem is but they can’t seem to keep the grass . There’s plenty of water on it but it’s almost like it’s just rotting the earth beneath. Maybe they just need to start over or tear it down and build more houses
