Apache Wells Country Club
About
Located next to several residential areas, the golf course at the Apache Wells Country Club was designed with seniors in mind. With that consideration, the course is mostly flat to make it an easily walkable. The course was originally only a nine-hole course but in 1966, Milt Coggins designed the back nine holes. Trees line many of the fairways and there is also a housing development that runs alongside the fairways. Water hazards also come into play on several holes. Being so close to a residential area, there are many out-of-bounds stakes on both sides. Apache Wells Country Club is open to the public from mid-April to the end of October.

APACHE WELLS - Good value well maintained
This course is consistently in good condition.
It has some challenging holes (several par 4 holes and 1 par 3 hole.)
Fairways are mostly wide and in the summer the greens put true but on the slow side.
Check in Staff is excellent. Carts are in good shape. Did not try the driving range or the putting green.
New tee boxes
A few improvements since last time, great condition, fun course.
Course was Aerated
If you berate 35% of the course, you should tell the public or offer reduced rates. Bait and switch is illegal.
Course Maintenance
Played on 6/16. First it was a hot and humid morning and the gentleman in the pro shop told us the course was undergoing maintenance. This meant the tee boxes and fairways were getting plugged. Bummer because the machines were everywhere making it difficult to really play. The staff is always very nice! Not very many golfers out. This course is usually the nicest around east Mesa and they keep it neat and clean. Unfortunately it was the day we played for the maintenance, not anyone’s fault. Will gladly play when less summer heat!
Improving
Played 6/12, not paired. Course not busy which makes it easier to play a level round with no waiting or pushing, completed round in 3 hours. They are working on the course, planting new plants, tweaking irrigation, trimming, etc. the grass is slowly returning and the greens are recovering. First time seeing a worker repairing divots on the greens using a repair tool! Fairway and tee box divots are filled in as well. This course has a great staff and whoever is in charge of managing the care of the course really knows what they are doing!
Improving course conditions
Played 6/1, paired with a single player( he was a nice young man). Since our last round the grass is starting to return after winter to summer transition has begun. This track is not difficult but enough challenge is present. They keep the surroundings clean and neat, water in the ball washers is a plus. There are two small coolers on the carts and you can get ice. The practice areas are nice. We still like this course because it’s close, always in good to excellent condition, and the staff is wonderful to deal with!
Transition Time
Played on 5/26 with a couple we know. Course in fair shape as it’s going through winter to summer transition so everything was scored, new sod at tee boxes, and sanded greens. It’s still a nice track with some great scenery. The desert/rough areas are neatly manicured and hardly one iota of trash! There are multiple ball washers. There are bathrooms with outside drinking fountains but not marked very well. The beverage gal was around frequently. Carts are fairly new electric with coolers. New driving range. Restaurant had great staff and food. Would recommend!
Good Course for Walking or Riding
This course has some challenging holes and some holes that are not hard to make Par.
Greens are good and fairways are mostly good. The course doesn't have any hills or slopes. Layout is good.
It is on the short size for standard size courses but it definitely is not an executive course.
Good Condition
TEE boxes, fairways, greens and bunkers are all in very good condition
Recommend the course
Need to Marshal the players and put sand in the bunkers
Apache Wells country club golf course was in great shape with the exception of their bunkers that was lacking, true sand. It was like a hard pan and very difficult to play out of. I played with a couple of members who said that they don’t put sand in the sand bunkers, and it annoys them as well. Additionally., I played in a shotgun, and the group in front of us was one to two holes behind the group in front of them, which made us wait on every shot. There was no martial out there and that’s not acceptable. It’s simple to manage people if you have someone watching them that’s my food for thought. Good good course bad bunkers and no Marshalls. .
At the age of 88, this course is just right. In all regards.
Average course, pretty flat
A lot of the holes look just alike but they have wide grassy fairways and the tees and greens were in good shape. You should pay attention to your pace of play, there is no dawdling on this course, they will run over you. We played in 3 hours 10 minutes.
