Black Bear Golf Club

I really wanted to like this course. I had heard great things about the elevations and the interesting layout of the course. However, reality set in right away. Some of the tee boxes are in bad shape. The fairways are very narrow and some of the greens need some help too. Couple of the greens were the size of a postage stamp. Not sure how you’re supposed to land that green. My main complaint is the on-course amenities. No bathroom structures just porta potties. No water out on the course whatsoever on a 90° day. What the heck is that all about? Having a water jug in the lobby of the pro shop doesn’t really help when you’re out on the course. In my mind, for the money and the drive it was not worth it for the experience.

I don't play often, and I have been looking for a good deal to play Black Bear. I found one, and the course did not disappoint. Beautiful layout.

I am glad I at least got to try this course as it looked interesting. Had it been in better shape, it may have been a better experience. Staff was great. Pace of play was great. We were in right at 4 hours for a foursome. Not bad at all...

The course layout is good and challenging with all the undulations on the fairways. The greens are small cakling for accuracy. The conditions were the biggest challenge. Poor tee boxes that reminded me of teeing up in a rural yard. Fairways had some good areas, but were mostly in rough condition. It stinks to hit a great drive in the fairway only to find a horrible lie due to conditions. Bunkers need attention with one having standing deep water ( 3-4 inches deep) and others having vegetation growing in them. Sand was hard packed and hard to play out of. The greens were disappointing and I had to move my ball multiple times to avoid putting over bare spots. I really wanted to like this course, but the drive, conditions and price are not worth another visit. I will gladly play closer to home with better conditions. The conditions made the course really hard to play and lessened an otherwise good experience.

This was my second time to play the course. It can be very challenging. I wish that the carts had gps so you could get some sight lines. On a number of tees, you can't see that the rough comes in to the fairway. The rough was up so not playing out of it was a plus. The greens putted true but were a little slow. It's been so blazing hot that I'm sure that they are being cautious not to burn them out. The staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back.

The last time I played BB, I said I would not be back until the conditions improved. I saw a review that said they had, and so we tried it out. I was pleasantly surprised. Greens and fairways were in great shape. Still a few areas where there are some bare spots, but overall it was great. We will be back again soon.

Tees and fairways are solid, greens are healthy but slow with a few spots under repair. Areas off the fairway are unkept making it difficult to find a ball in the rough. Fun tract, just don’t expect CC conditions.

Really nice course. I don’t know who made the grounds keeper mad but the pin placements were really hard.

Course is always well maintained. Fairways are lush and green. Greens were recently aerated but rolled well. Just a bit slower than average. The trouble is mostly around the greens as many are elevated. Poor shots around the greens could roll down into lower areas. Only water is on 18. Green on 18 is difficult if shot not near the flag. You get a drop on the other side of the water if your ball lands in the drink.

From tee to green the course has very few bare spots. Some of the tee boxes could use a rest but overall this course is much better off than other courses in the area. The first time I played here about a year ago the greens were lightening fast currently the greens are much more enjoyable and putting isn’t impossible. I very much enjoy playing here and I appreciate how well maintained the course is.

This layout is challenging if you’ve never played this kind of golf. Played here a couple dozen times over the years. What should be an enjoyable test to your game becomes a frustration. The greens have issues. It’s the same kind issues going back months. Thought I would give BB another chance since I last played there in early March. It’s not improved much. Buyer beware.

Greens need a lot of attention. There were spots that were sand and they have several different types of grass growing on their greens

Greens very challenging, fairways were in good condition with limited rain. Definetly playing again!

I played this course several times and I always have a great time playing there!

The course the man’s good golf in order to score well and I love that!

The course keeps improving here after year, so I’m happy about that!

And I love going there because all the staff are professional make you feel at home!

So I don’t think you can ask for much more than that. And that’s what keeps me coming back, so I’ll be back again.!

I have to say I do love that golf course! Every time I go in there, I feel really welcomed and taken care of! It plays, puff, tough, but it plays fair and I love that!!

Me and my girlfriend went and played today. Really enjoyed the golf staff the golf course and we had a great day together so what more can you ask for?
