RedTail Golf Club
About
Atypical of many Florida golf courses, RedTail Golf Club is a links-style layout dotted with 100-year-old oak trees and azaleas among its rolling green fairways. Designed by Dave Harman, who also did Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, the course features four lakes with water coming into play on the last five holes. Holes 14-18 work their way around the largest lake on the course, while the finishing hole's approach shot plays over another body of water in front of the clubhouse. Located in rural Sorrento a little more than a half hour north of Orlando, RedTail Golf Club prides itself on catering to "members only."

I feel bad for the homeowners here.
The course has a great layout, but it's a shame to see a course with enough water to keep it green as dead as it is. The front nine is in better shape than the back, hardly. It's a course I would play if I'm looking just to get out and not spend a lot of money or try to go low on the scorecard. The greens are like playing plinko, not to mention the old cup locations aren't level enough to not affect your putts. You can hardly identify fair ways against the rough. The bunkers are ill maintained. You wouldn't know any of this if you went off of the practice green being the best green on the course. The homes around the course are too nice for how terrible this course looks.
Course is in terrible shape. Looks like a goat ranch.
What a shame...
What a beautiful setting and a well laid out course among a development just as catching. Too bad the course has been put out to pasture (literally!) Playing this course was like playing in a pasture. You could not decern the fairway from the rough. The greens were potted with tuffs of grass. Can't really speak to the sand traps, but from walking by them, the sand look rather thin. With a little TLC this course could be top notch! So sad to see such a gem go by the wayside. I would be highly irate to buy into such a development and have such lushness thwarted What a shame...
Red Tail Struggling
I love this course. I drive 45 minutes just to play there. This last time was the worst conditions i have seen this course. Most of greens were filled with weed, the tee boxes looked like bunkers. Fairways needed attention as well. Hopefully it gets taken care of as this place is really nice to go out there and have fun.
Practice in the rough
It’s been a few years since I last played at Red Tail. Surprised when I went to first tee and the box was either shaggy or bare dirt. This is the standard for the course. It’s inexpensive and there are reasons for it.
Needs some TLC
If you have low course condition expectations, you won’t be disappointed. Layout is great, greens look a mess, but did not play as bad as they look.
Bad shape
There’s no fairway. The grass is overgrown. The greens are Horrible. The T-boxes are sand bunkers. I wouldn’t even pay 20$ for this place.
Terrible condition
I have played this course several times and the conditions are just getting worse.
Pitiful condition
Tee boxes were all dirt. Obviously, no work is being done regularly there...Owners should be ashamed with the condition of the course. The bartender walked out and quit.. .never again unless it improves.
GREAT LAY OUT; POOR CONDITIONS
Great layout. I have been coming here for years however tee boxes and fairways are in very poor condition. No course supervision during our round with pair of youngsters parking on the fringe/green. Its a shame as the community looks pristine.
Course conditions
I really enjoyed the layout of the course and scenery. Saw some wild turkeys and some beautiful homes. There needs to be work done on the fairways. The greens have an invasive grass making putting difficult. Pretty common problems for the area though. I enjoyed the round.
God course for improving your game
This is good golf couse for improving you game. Nice layout with holes 10 and 18 as the most challenging ones. Great friendly staff and good pace of play.
Coming back
The tee boxes and fairways need grass and de-weeding. A couple greens had small cancer spots, but were in good shape overall. This used to be a primo course and could be again with some work and TLC.
Very poor conditions
This course has great potential but unfortunately they have let it fade into obscurity. Tee boxes are mostly sand. You can’t tell the difference between the rough and the fairway, even if there is a fairway. Some of the greens are really bad with a disease of some sort. Needs a ton of loving care to be playable.
It’s Florida, it’s golf, staff great, it’s under $50…back off trashing this course.
We played today and thoroughly enjoyed it because we know what conditions are and it was very easy on the eyes. Obviously a great conditioned course in early 2000s. Just pick, clean, and place. Hit putts firm, and enjoy…or cough up $150 plus elsewhere. Easy 50 minute drive up 429 Toll from Disney area.
Some spectacular finishing holes around a huge swamp. Saw huge alligators.
Will definitely go back.
Fun Layout
They put down some weed-killer & grass supplement today, so hopefully that will help dispose of the patches of a leafy lettuce in most greens. Tee boxes need grass, and sand bunkers need maintenance, but layout is fun & challenging. I fell off the Bogie Train, even made Birdie #9, but DbleBogie #10 (first of 3 on back9).......and back to my usual mid-80s score. I luv holes 14-17 around the lake/bowl, not that my scores indicate such. I'm hopin' RedTail comes back into form, but we can still have fun at the less expensive rates. Thanx to GNs Hot Deals, I'll be back again in a few months.
Here's the Truth!
Is the course in great shape? No
Is it value priced? Yes
Greens: playable, but issues with sanded areas & brussel sprout leaves (maybe Winter Rye that needs treatment, cut close & rolled to prevent bumpy rolls).
Pace-of-play (10am start on a sunny, but chilly morning) was awesome, no wait, no push! 18holes in little over 3hrs. Most tee-boxes have no grass, but you put a peg in the sand and hit the golfing ball. Fairways result in tight lies, sand bunkers are not maintained well, and greens are far from perfect.. Recent cold spell thru Central Fla has affected most courses, and RedTail is minimally staffed/budgeted, which translates into lesser Greens Fees. The layout is outstanding (although I don't know how many times it will take me to par #18), nice Pro & cart-gal, but nothing for clubhouse amenities. At any rate, I'd rather get the GN Hor Deal Special, join a nice fellow from Canada, hit mulligans & converse ..........than pay 5x more just to say I played OCN or Disney.. Please, my wish is to bring back RedTail to what it was 10yrs ago, so I keep coming back.
