Sweetwater Golf & Country Club
About
Sweetwater Country Club is situated amid the beauty of the Wekiva State Park. Sweetwater is one of Orlando's premier golf courses, boasting a challenging championship layout with some of the area's best greens. The classic links layout brings a taste of Scottish golf to central Florida. Mature oaks shade the golf course, lining the fairways and framing the greens. The 6,771-yard layout offers a good amount of length but it's definitely not a grip-it-and-rip-it course thanks to tight fairways that require accurate shot placement. The course is home to one of the longest par 5s in the Southeast, a challenging 625-yard hole that is aptly named the "Loch Ness Monster." The heavily tree-lined hole double doglegs around a large lake. There are some challenging holes but Sweetwater Country Club isn't overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Quirky!!
Needs alot of tlc. Very tight fairways, greens had some disease. Not bad for the price.

Its a very nice layout, but in terrible condition in all facets of the course. greens deseased, fairways hard as rock with huge areas of no grass and out areas pure dirt. if it wasnt on the inexpensive side and had availability would not play it.
Possibly the worst conditions I’ve ever played
Nothing but hard pan and dirt
Course layout on front nine not even close to the scorecard. Par fours that are 120 yards short of quoted distance. Can we at least redo and update the card please?
Making Progress
Greens were overall very nice. A couple hot spots on the edges of a few but otherwise in very good shape. The holes 6/7 layout has been improved. Tee boxes need work but getting better. Some larger tree work needs done, with one holes tee boxes blocked on left side in an area that should not be blocked forcing your tee shot right, but not because it was designed that way, just because the oak tree hasn’t been trimmed back in years. Bunkers are well kept. Pace of play is great. #9 is a tough customer, forces layup and elevated green.
Course is odd
Expensive for a course that isn’t well maintained. One hole had piles of tree branches all over. The layout was strange and the hole right by the clubhouse is literally right next to the club house. Wouldn’t go again for a golf course that isn’t well taken care of and the overpriced fees
Not Bad
For the price, conditions and difficulty it's an excellent little course for the average golfer. Short par 4s but some lengthy pars 3s that make this course entertaining to play and will have you using most of your clubs.
Second Time Around at This Course, Another Pleasant Experience
My previous review of 11/10 still accurately describes this latest experience my weekly golf buddy and I had at this course, except for one thing: the clubhouse restaurant. This was another pleasant day on this enjoyable course, and we again stopped for lunch in the clubhouse where, unlike last time, we were waited on immediately. Rose Mary (her name might have been Rose Marie; I can't accurately recall) was most attentive to us and, when we mentioned our lack of service here on 11/10, she was most apologetic as she was not present on that day. The menu is primarily Italian and I had a small calzone that was "small" only in comparison to the medium and large. To say that I was full when I finished it is an understatement, and it was DELICIOUS! The golf was enjoyable, and the lunch was wonderful. All in all, it was a great day.
PS As I mentioned in my previous review, the clientele seems to be notably averse to fixing the ball marks on the greens. Each hole I fixed a couple, but I really didn't have the time opr the inclination to fix 10. This point of golf etiquette should be emphasized to all players, IMO.
Interesting Course and Layout, Conditions Could Be Better
My weekly golf buddy and I played this course yesterday for the first time and it was an interesting round. The course is not easy to find and a golfer must get in the security gate first. The LCD panel on the call box has been bleached out by the sun so I simply pushed a few buttons and some kind soul opened the gate for me; my buddy had managed to tailgate a FedEx truck through so this was no issue for him. We got the cart, then had to figure out where the first hole was by following another golfer. The scorecard has no map or diagram of the course so trying to determine the layout was a bit problematic, especially at the turn after 9 which required a bit of street travel. But, let me say, the course architect did his job well, each hole is interestingly laid out. I really liked number 11, a wonderful par 5. The par 4s and 5s seem to have ample driving room but are narrowed further by trees, requiring your tee shot to find the middle of the fairway.
The course conditions are similar to other public courses, well mown but weeds and crabgrass are apparent, even on some greens which also had some evident bare spots. Additionally, it would seem that the others who played before us that morning were notably averse to fixing their ball marks as most greens had some rather obvious fresh marks that were unrepaired. Then again, for $25, I can't complain and I found this course most challenging and enjoyable and am looking forward to playing here again in the near future.
PS Let me mention that, after the round, my buddy and I went to the restaurant in the clubhouse for lunch but sat there for 10 minutes with no service, so we left and went elsewhere. This was a disappointment, but I'll give them another chance next time, maybe.
Used to Be
Maybe this course used to be Orlando’s premier course, but not by today’s standards:
Old gas powered golf carts with no GPS.
Hardly any cart paths.
Few hole to hole directional signs
Pro Shop is a small office area
NO Driving range to loosen up on
My wife said there must be a good comment. - Fairways were well maintained; most greens were well maintained.
Nice and challenging course.
Just know this course recently, but enjoyed playing it four times already. Great friendly staff, very accommodating and great foods in the clubhouse. A few greens need tlc.
I enjoy the course and the staff is really great. There’s a few holes you can tell they are trying to revive the greens, as soon as those come through that will be really nice.
