1st Lee's Hill experience
Course in good condition. Staff friendly but did not stop a threesome of teenagers from jumping in front of us on the turn. Not enough golf ball washers on course and definitely not enough water stations on the course. With that said, I really did enjoy the layout, the greens and the round. Pace of play was perfect.
Course Conditions
The course looks much better than when I played a few months ago. Most of the bunkers and greens are in pretty good shape. The staff is always awesome. Looking forward to playing there again soon.
Bobby
The fairway grass was great and the greens were good I think the group overall enjoyed our outing.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME NOR MONEY.
This is a terrible place to play. Greens are infected with a multitude of different grasses. Bunkers are a joke. The rakes are a novelty because there is zero sand in the bunker. They might as well start mowing their bunkers because the weeds growing from them are taller than your pitching wedge.
There is zero golf etiquette, groups in front play incredibly slow 20 minutes a hole. Groups behind play best ball from the front tee box.
As a local of over 20 years playing here for the first time, this will certainly be my last. Stick with Northern VA, central VA. If you're local just go to Fredericksburg Country Club. Do not waste your time.
$81 per 18 holes is a complete joke. Coming from $38-$42 pre-11AM tee time 18 hole courses in Sonoma California there is clearly a discrepancy and lack of knowledge in maintaining a golf course.
If you have enough land, just mow your yard and play there. Absolutely bypass this pathetic course.
Look elsewhere
I was extremely disappointed with this course. Pace of play was the absolute worst. Slow play in front of us and players behind us teeing off while we were in the fairway waiting on the group in front of us to clear the green. Bunkers worse the absolute worst I have ever seen. No sand and all rocks or they were overgrown with weeds. The starter was very friendly. I will not be spending any money returning to this course. What a shame!
Hot but amazing day
Had a great day playing golf 27 holes in 98 degrees but it was well worth it
Course Conditions
Tee boxes were good, fairways good, bunkers needed a lot of work; weeds and bunker ridges were over grown. Greens were nice! Overall, a nice place to golf.
Not Worth The Price
The staff were all great, The course not so great! Mnay sand traps were swamps, the fairways in bad condition(what will they look like in the heat of summer) tee boxes many bad
You Get What You Pay For.
I played Lee’s Hill for the first time over Memorial Day weekend 2025. I paid $52 for a tee time in the early afternoon. After arriving and checking in I had time to warm up on the range. There were both mats and a beat up grass area available. The practice putting green was large and in good shape with space to both chip and putt.
The starter was not very friendly, but let’s be honest most starters are this way. He paired me up with another single. Even though I didn’t see anybody tee off for at least 15 minutes before our tee time, we quickly caught up to the groups ahead of us and waited most shots on the front nine but still got done in 2 hours. I could see things being a lot worse on a busier day with only 8 minutes between tee times. My partner, and I guess a few others ahead were only playing 9 because I played the back as a single and flew through the back.
I had avoided Lee’s Hill for a while after hearing that they lost their greens. However, the greens were just about the only positive about course conditions. They were firm, above average speed, and rolled true. The fairways were decent on some holes, however others had so many weeds growing over 1” high that you couldn’t tell where the “fairway” stopped and rough began. Bunkers were entirely unplayable. The sand either felt like concrete and was filled with rocks or overgrown with weeds. Tee boxes were in poor shape, especially on par 3’s which for some reason were the smallest boxes even though they take the most beating from iron play. A lot of tee boxes were also sloped so you were teeing off with the ball slightly above or below your feet.
The layout isn’t particularly challenging. I played from the white tees (6100 yards) since it was my first time playing the course. I average about 260-270 off the tee and found myself using 3 wood off the tee on a lot of holes. There were a lot of sharp dog legs including 15 which turns right 90 degrees and required an iron off the tee. No holes really stood out as enjoyable but the back 9 was more memorable with water in play on 5 holes.
This is a good course for beginners and children learning the game but I wouldn’t recommend it for a serious golfer. For the $52 price on a Saturday in May, it was acceptable but you get what you pay for.
