The Club at Starr Pass - Pioneer/Palmer

Pace was terrible and no ranger on the course. Gambler 9 was cart path only due to overseeing. Would have been nice to know when booking.

Starr pass Golf Course was recommended to us by several people. Being new in the Green Valley area we are always looking for some new golf courses to play. Star pass starts off on the right foot the second you walk into the Pro Shop. You are greeted warmly and very friendly! Then the starters continue that wonderful treatment! My wife (Kay) and I arrived at 8:25 for a 9:00 tee time. I brought my clubs. Kay had her clubs sent to the course via ShipSticks. The bag drop man told us he could not locate her clubs so they moved us to a 9:20 tee time. They asked us if we had a receipt showing who signed for the clubs. We did not have that. Fortunately, another employee found her clubs in the area reserved for members' bags. We will gladly play course again if we are in the area.

I have played this course several times when managed by JWMarriot. I did not realize the golf aspect of the resort was farmed out to Troon until I arrived and noticed several concerns.

1. Driving range is much less than expected - for the price to play and compared to what JW provided.

2. Lack of signage directing people between Palmer 9 and Pioneer 9 (which we were assigned to play). Those 2 courses are no where near each other and the starter had to personally drive us between the 2.

The only saving grace was the 2-some we played with, they made our day.

The course itself was in good shape … it would have been grand if we could find them more easily.

I will not be returning until Troon figures out how to manage these courses as well as JW used to. I would think after 3 years they would have this under control, but apparently not.

Restricted to cart paths slowed down pace of play. In excess of a 4 -1/4 hour round. Excellent staff assistance & beautiful amenities.

Played Pioneer/Palmer- Pioneer 9 reopened after extensive reno bout a year ago and is in great shape. Greens are still young so they play really firm and roll quite well. The whole 9 from tees to green played really really well… firm n fast-

Palmer 9 has had it’s reno done couple years now so,, those greens are much more receptive…plus that 9 is fresh off of fall maintenance .. it’s playing really soft. Great shape but def a total different feel from my 1st 9 on Pioneer. That’s why I tagged it best of both worlds! Staff was great as usual- such a fun challenging afternoon!!!

This course has 3 Nines, with Palmer being overseeded currently.

I always enjoy playing any of the three courses. Outdoor staff is usually accommodating. Inside staff is professional but not friendly.

Range balls included. Large practice putting greens. Multiple tee boxes give ample room to determine best play style for your abilities. Beverage cart hit us up a couple of times which was great.

The conditions are great. Not easy but love to play this one. I recommend it

Came out on a day trip with some buddies from phoenix. The course was in great shape and the greens were pure! Todo layouts is amazing. We got put on the gambler/palmer and had a blast with the challenging layout. Best part were the starters and pro shop. The starters Herb and Randy make you feel like they’ve know you forever! You can tell they love what they do. The pro shop is also stacked with a nice collection of goodies. Even some Sunday Red in there! Would 100% play here again haven’t had this much fun at a course all year!

The layout, course conditions and staff pretty amazing folks here southern Tucson.

Played Gambler/Pioneer nines on a late afternoon weekday round. Weather was hot followed by cloudy cooler conditions. Both nines have come out of summer transition nicely. Fairways and aprons are nice, with just a few remaining thin areas. Greens rolled well but were very firm, and only held the most well struck shots. The staff at Starr Pass is what makes this course a must play. They are fantastic.
