Fix your greens
Not really sure what happened this year to some of the greens. I don’t know if they had disease or if they were scalped or possibly burnt with too much fertilizer. This reminds me of when Avalon had the trouble many years ago and had to completely redo theim and changed to Primo Zoysia. The last part three on the front green was in such bad shape that maybe 10% of the entire green was putt-able. There were three greens with extreme damage. This is almost as bad as Oak Ridge country club screens last year before the tournament. I would be embarrassed to charge what they’re charging until they get these fixed.
Greens unplayable on at least four holes
Umm, I don’t usually write reviews- in fact this may be my first but I just put this out as a warning for anyone thinking about playing this course. The layout is wonderful I love Avalon and its quirks- but today the greens were the worst I have ever seen them. In fact; the worst I’ve played anywhere in the vicinity. Think shaad road or whittle green conditions. On 3,4,5 and 11 they are pitted rutted and to be honest a joke and unplayable. For what they charge here (@75$) it is totally unacceptable. I will not be back.
Fairways were amazing. The greens were 50/50. Many were in good shape. Others were pretty bad.
Great course
The course is well laid out, and fun to play. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Great value, unlimited range balls included.
Over priced and under construction
Weeds on greens bald spots on fairways and greens and overpriced for any course in the area
Not bad
You can tell this was an awesome course at one time. Great layout, but it was in pretty ruff shape
Poor condition
The golf course was in pretty bad condition. Lots of GUR, rocks, etc. The cost to play with the course conditions was out of balance.
I would recommend the course if conditions improve substantially.
First time playing Avalon
This was my first time playing Avalon. All the people from the cart girl bringing me a cart at my car, to the pro shop employee, the starter and the beverage cart young were awesome. I rate their service and friendliness five stars.
I understand we are in early spring and the Bermuda hasn’t started to grow, but for me, the course layout just didn’t fit my eye and nor did the cost to play a course in rough shape. Maybe that tee fee is worth it when it all starts to green up but didn’t feel the overall dollar outlay fir the quality of the course.
The course was in great shape
The staff was friendly. The starter did a great job at starting people on time.
The greens, tees and cart paths were in great shape. Due to the time of year.
I don’t like to take divots in winter golf. If I took divots, there was an ample amount of sand in two bottles on the cart.
I liked the practice putting green and the driving range.
The golf carts are very comfortable.
Great course
I love playing here, conditions always good, pace of play was bad this day. Had 8 guys in front of me for 13 holes and they refused to let me play thru which I will never understand. Also their bossy carts are ridiculous. If you happen to get where you shouldn’t be, the act of getting the cart back to where it needs to be is insane. It literally took 5 mins to get cart 2 feet because it wouldn’t move. Absolutely made the round almost unbearable as there were signs saying keep carts in rough then you’d go there and they’d lock up and tell you back to path, but couldn’t get back to path. No reason for this to be how these operate. Absolutely hate these new carts at alot of these courses its overdone and too much.
Always a great course
Avalon has always been very enjoyable. Course in great shape as usual.
Great value and military friendly
Great military rates, not over crowded and decent pace of play. Was slowed down a bit on the back 9, but overall a fun course to play and requires some strategy rather than just launching it all over the place. Greens are incredibly fast especially with any slight downhill play, very tricky to read. Over all a ton of fun still.
Great Shape
Course overall is in great shape and love playing here.
