Old at Firewheel Golf Park
About
Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Firewheel old course
Enjoyed the round, fairways, and greens were in great conditions. Would definitely go back.
Still some watering issues
I play all of the Firewheel courses regularly. The recent renovation of the Old Course was much needed and things are in far better condition than before. However, especially in hot weather there are wet and muddy areas near all the greens, from heavy irrigation and in some cases leaky pipes or sprinkler heads. making approach shots much more difficult than they need to be. You can't run the ball up onto the greens because of this.
They need to pay more attention to spot-watering the areas that are turning brown and to fixing those leaks. The same problem exists on all the Firewheel courses, by the way.
Course in great shape
Course in great shape and greens almost in great shape. They rolled true. Pace was ok and the marshaller was out in force but the slow 3 some never picked up the pace. I’ll be back.
Nice Gem.
Really nice layout and hats off to the staff for the condition of the course. It’s a real shame that a majority of the seniors who were playing ahead of us, don’t know how to repair ball marks. If you and bend over to put a tee in the ground, you can bend over and fix a ball mark!
Great place
All three course are in great shape price is good and pace of play was good. My go to course
Nice staff except some bureaucratic attitude person
Usually they are nice but very few persons makes ugly.
I have a chance to hit leftover range ball (about half bucket) but one guy showed up and told me can't use it because I didn't pay it and take it back with saying that this is stealing. I played about 40years and never had a experience like this.
After finishing my round, I went to the pros hop and talk to one of the staff for ridiculous happening, bur to me one old guy start saying with very rude, bureaucratic and discriminative attitude (to me I feel) there is an another course named Sherril park keep saying go to there. To me he is way crossed the line.
Nice course, with good layout
It was a great outing for me. Greens were well maintained and rolling reasonably fast without any imperfections on them. Most holes require accuracy off the tee. Bunkers weren't the best but better than most places
Great track and value for the $
Was very impressed with the the overall course update and restoration done about a year ago. Fairways are some the best in the DFW area and greens were much better than you see around town this time of the year.
I would like to see a Marshall that could help with the slow play but that was about the only negative.
I highly recommend this course for the enjoyment and overall value.
Good Stuff
First time to play this course in about a year and I’m thrilled I came back. Grass on all the fairways, bunkers have lots of sand and the GREENS! They are just perfect. Some of the best I’ve played all year. I’ll be back. Thank You
Good course. Greens were really slow.
Overall a great experience. The greens were extremely slow that day. There were also leftover lawn clippings that you had to move out of your way on several putts from on and off the green.
Golf with my son
Great round. Fairways are generous and the greens were slower than they appeared. The par fives turned out be the toughest holes on the course for me since I am not that long off the tee. I would love to play the course again when I am in the Garland area. In fact, I want to make time to play the other three as a gift to myself as a bucket list item. Great Experience!
