Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Good course. Greens were really slow.
Overall a great experience. The greens were extremely slow that day. There were also leftover lawn clippings that you had to move out of your way on several putts from on and off the green.
Golf with my son
Great round. Fairways are generous and the greens were slower than they appeared. The par fives turned out be the toughest holes on the course for me since I am not that long off the tee. I would love to play the course again when I am in the Garland area. In fact, I want to make time to play the other three as a gift to myself as a bucket list item. Great Experience!
Good course
The course is in good shape. The greens are slow but the rest of the course is in real good condition I would recommend this course
Classic Course brought back to Life
Played a ton here in HS and the years after but then the course kinda got away from them and it’s been probably 8 years since I’ve played the Old Course.
The Renovation has brought the Tees, Fairways and Greens all back to life. There’s quite literally nothing to complain about. Played in a little over 4 hours on a holiday weekend Friday. Will be out here several more times this summer!
fun layout
Got paired with 3 other solos. One being a woman. We had a blast, good company always makes a round fun. We hit some bad shots and some good ones....so usual round. The greens were awesome and smooth, rest of course was in great shape.
CART PATH ONLY
Still CART PATH ONLY. Makes for lots of walking and slow play. Conditions are good. Greens rolling nice. Probably won't play this in the near future unless cart path restrictions are lifted.
Slow play is an understatement
As I sit here in the 8th tee box regretting my decision to book a tee time here, I thought it would be good to write a review as I never do. Course is in great shape however they are watering like crazy so be aware the fairways are almost in standing water. Pace of play is crazy, 2 hours in and just watching the guys in front take 8 shots to get to a par 3 green on hole 8. Lots of beginner golfers combined with cart path only is a terrible mixture
Hidden gem!
I just moved to Dallas and this place will be a return track! Great staff inside and out and amazing greens! DO IT!
Greens are great, just need to speed up a little. Fairways are best I have ever seen, been playing here about 12 years.
