Southwyck Golf Club

This goes down as one of the worst courses in Houston. The is crab Or Augustine grass on the green and there may as well be sand bunkers on the green. I got you it’s hot and the weather is bad, but the layout is amazing and you could do so much better to complement it. The “lunar landing” with the bumpiness across all the fairways make the ball bounce in all sorts of wired directions, not to mention the horrible cart ride experience. I probably won’t play this course again, unless something drastically changes

Course Conditions:

(1) greens were bear (no grass)

(2) fairways were bumpy - My back is killing me

This is still a great and challenging layout. But, this course is at the end of its lifespan. Bunkers have been removed. There is more St Augustine grass than anything else on the course including the greens which are mostly bare.

I play this course to practice. It's cheap and the layout is challenging. However this is not the place for a real round of golf.

I probably play at Southwyck more than any other course. Not because it’s in great shape. The tee boxes are so hard you have a tough time pushing in a tee. The fairways are very rough on the golf cart. You will break bones driving on the fairway if you’re not careful. And the greens have been in bad shape for several years. They are the worst I’ve ever seen here now in August 2026.

I play here because it’s wide open and a quick round.

Having said that I may be done with the place due to the absolute rudeness of the woman checking people in the AM on 8/28/26. Went way out of her way to be rude and condescending. No need for it. I’d expect more from someone in the leisure and entertainment business.

But doubtful anything is done to improve the course or the attitude of the staff.

This course has fallen into terrible disrepair. The greens are just one large weed patch and bare spots in between. The fairways appear as though a civil war battle has taken place there given the “surface of mars” like texture. It’s not worth the money and I would not play there give other courses in the area that are a similar price and not a wreck.

This course for the price is not a good value. It plays more like a 30 dollat course.

This is by far the worst course in the city. It is embarrassing how they charge that amount of money for the greens condition. I feel robbed by the course. Not even talking about the fairways and rough, but the greens were impossible to play.

Place has a lot of potential. Terrible greens. Atrocious conditions.

Used to be a good course with great design and layout. They have let it go to complete trash. Greens are not playable. Horrible condition all around. The people running it should be ashamed. What an embarrassment. Do NOT play here.

I was a member here about 15 years ago and it was in decent shape. It has done so far down since then. Worst greens I’ve ever played. Many of the greens were half black mud. The putts sometimes bounced an inch or more in the air. It was often not even worth putting. They have filled in all the bunkers, so there’s no more sand. The clubhouse and shop are an embarrassment. At $65 the conditions and state of the facility is really bad. It’s a shame, because this course once had a lot of potential. Great links style layout. Great design and a fun track. But the condition is so bad that I’ll never play it again.

I reasonable course with terrible greens. Fungus is eating up the grass. I' sure there are ways to fix it. More bathrooms needed on the course. Otherwise, had a pleasant round. Noce staff.

It’s only getting worse. The fairways and greens are trash. I lost several balls in the middle of the fairway and the greens are more weeds than anything.

The greens were mostly dead grass with brown spots where the dirt was

Tried this course because literally was 7 dollars after my GN credits and a hotdeal. I was hoping i would see something improving on the course maintenance. Wrong ! It’s the worst course in all of Houston ! My 7 dollars was a rip off! The fairways and greens are insanely bad and bumpy. I have no idea why anyone would pay 25 bucks to play here let alone 50.00 😵‍💫 Either fix up the course or charge 5 bucks to play. Either way i’ll never return 🫡

I had not played Southwyck in several months and I was hoping to see some improvement in course conditions.

Alas, there is no improvement. The only acceptable part of the course are the tee boxes. The fairways are hard and extremely bouncy (how the carts stay in one piece is a mystery). And the greens (more like "browns") are unputtable.

The layout is pretty good. The holes need to be marked better and the cart paths need to have better signage as to where the next hole is. It could be painted on the concrete or small sign with hole number and arrows. The condition of the course is terrible. The fairways are extremely bumpy and the greens are horrendous. I wonder how this course was left to deteriorate so badly.
