Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

Excellent Greens, Everything Else Needs Work
Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience from start to finish.
The tee boxes were in rough condition and clearly need attention. Pace of play was extremely slow all day. To be fair, the ranger was visible and stopped by several times, but he never seemed able to get the group in front of us moving. As a result, they backed up the entire course and every group behind them suffered through a frustratingly slow round.
The biggest issue was the starter. He was rude toward our group and generally came across as someone who did not want to be there. Whether he was simply unhappy about working a weekend or something else, his demeanor was unprofessional and made a poor first impression. We had never seen him there before and sincerely hope we do not encounter him again.
Adding to the frustration, it was around 90 degrees and there was no drink cart service on the course. On a hot summer day, that's a significant miss.
The one bright spot was the course conditions in certain areas. The greens were excellent, the bunkers were in very good shape, and the fairways were generally okay. If course conditioning alone were the only factor, this review would be much different.
There are too many good golf options in the Triangle to put up with an experience like this. Until management addresses the pace of play issues, improves customer service, and gets operations running more smoothly, we'll be taking our business elsewhere.
Annoying ranger
Super slow play on a hot June day, which is fine except for when the Ranger tells your group to keep pace when all you are doing is waiting on the people in front of you to get off the green to take your second shot. Very very annoying. Also, for some reason this course floods its T boxes during a severe drought so you have to find places to tee up. I would not recommend Lochmere.
Wonderful course
I enjoyed my round of golf at Lochmere golf course. Their clubhouse food is excellent. Unfortunately the greens were being aerated when I played. I heard the greens were in good shape. Other than that everything was perfect.
Member annoying
Greens were perfect. The coursewas a little beat up on the edges, but we got stuck with a member who was hitting shots all over the place hitting second shots, dropping balls, chipping, and had zero etiquette and there was no way to ditch him.
4.75 hour pace. Overbooked but solid course
Pace of play wasn’t fun. Clearly too many tee times were booked. Grill was very good, pro shop and driving range were very nice. Fairways and greens were consistent and well maintained.
Lot of ground under repair
They are redoing a lot of tee boxes. Not much grass to tee off on anywhere. Greens were hard as bricks.
Best Condition Ever
Dry weather has been great for the fairways and greens. Looking forward to the t boxes filling in.
Winning
I've been playing Lochmere and many others in the Raleigh area for over 30 years. I'm that time I have observed many a team, in the business of golf.
There is no better collection of people running this show!
From the cart cleaners to da big boss; you will get nothing but friendly, courteous, professional service!
Brent and Corey are absolutely top shelf. They try hard and succeed at engaging membership with fun interesting competitions, including this non -member!!
If I were in charge of managing this group; is give them everything they ask for and a big whopping raise!!!
The staff at Lochmere are hands down, the best in the land!!!
Nice local course with room for improvment
I have played Lochmere several times. It is a straightforward course. It was in fair shape; The greens had a light top dressing of sand on them but not enough to really affect play. The fairways were still trying to fully grow in and with the significant dry weather the entire course needed water, like the others in the area. Many of the tee boxes needed some attention as well. Overall, the course is fun. Tee time prices are a little high given the caliber of the course. The staff is very friendly and helpful. An issue I seem to encounter almost every time I play is the rude nature of other golfers. Not a lot of etiquette around.
Nice
Nice layout but not overly challenging. Fairways and tees in fair condition. The greens were good. Overall I had fun which is the goal!
It was so busy, I did not play
I putted for over an hour waiting for a gap in starters to start but there were always 3-4 carts lined up to start. Eventually I just gave up & went home. Did not want to spend 6-7 hours on the course. THEY SHOULD NOT OVERBOOK
Where's the "Old" Lochmere?
What in the world has happened to Lochmere? I remember lush fairways, true rolling.greens and smooth cart paths. I don't know where the money's going but it such isn't maintenance. What used to be a golf challenge now has become a puffed out, snobby joke. I have known and played the course for over 25 years and I've never seen such deplorable conditions. Even the men's restroom was a mess. Tell your BOD to get off their buttocks and focus on the golf course and not on the reputation
