About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Wonderful Experience
Played Duke a few times and Lonnie Poole did not disappoint. I loved the look of most of the holes and the people were fantastic. The course was cut for tournament conditions which kicked my butt but it was well worth it and I will come again
Food was good and Staff were super hospitable
First time playing
Great course conditions and very friendly staff. Beautiful views and a lot of challenging holes which I enjoyed. The greens rolled true and the par 3’s had turf mats at every tee because of the rain the day before. Great value, if you’re walking there’s a good distance between some of the tee boxes. I would recommend a cart if you’re not looking to walk a long 18. Will be playing again forsure!
Good course in pretty good shape Excellent views
Lonnie was in pretty good shape considering the time of year. The front 9 layout is much better than the back 9 in my opinion. The back 9 has several holes that feel gimmicky and out of place. Pace of play was ok but could be improved.
18th hole is terrible design
18th hole is maybe the dumbest hole I have ever played. Good drive then a good 4 hybrid played well to the left to avoid bunkers and the ball rolls sideways 50 yards into ankle deep rough.
Poole Late Winter
Ok conditions for late winter. Greens were very good. Fairways very damp. Traps were hit and miss for compaction of sand. Always a fun place to play but right now I'd wait until Mar/Apr before paying over $60.
Awesome course
Really enjoyed the course and challenge. The staff was friendly with the exception of one dude that worked in the afternoon at the pro shop seemed like he did not like his job at all. Everyone else was friendly.
Home away from home.
This course never disappoints me. Even though the had just been punched still had a great time. Course conditions are always good.
Should be Top Fifty College Course!
Challenging but fare if you pick appropriate tees. Lot of bunkers so you need to be solid on your iron play and I suggest club up. I’ve played it four times and never scored well but I think I’m getting there. Can’t wait to play it again. View of downtown Raleigh is awesome off eleven tee box. Play it!
Please redo the greens
Only thing from this being the perfect course is the greens. Please switch to Bermuda. Bent grass here. Thousands of ball matks and slow. Other than that i love Lonnie Poole. Best in the area
Great Course
Amazing layout.. generous fairways, but lots of trouble. Very strategic course…lots of ways to attack or defend on each hole. Greens were a little slow in the heat of summer but we adjusted. Overall a great experience
