Introducing Mexico's ultimate golf resort guide

Golfers can choose from 55 different golf resorts for their next winter golf getaway south of the border in Mexico.

Another glorious sunset over the Nobu Hotel Los Cabos.

Some of my most memorable trips have been south of the border.

I played a couple holes with LIV Golf's Carlos Ortiz at the grand opening of Greg Norman's Vidanta Vallarta Course that has hosted the PGA TOUR's Mexico Open at Vidanta. I later played three holes with Norman during the 2020 grand opening of Solmar Golf Links in Cabo just a few months before the world shut down during the pandemic. I've seen whales breach from tee boxes and feasted in golf comfort stations from Diamante Los Cabos to Puerto Los Cabos. I watched the dramatic fourth quarter of the 2025 Super Bowl on a massive screen, distracted by the ocean view from the lead photo above.

If you haven't played much golf in Mexico during a winter golf escape, you're missing out on all the fun. We are making it easier to plan your next golf trip to Mexico with the launch of our new Mexico Golf Resort guide. Click on it below to see more.

The Mexico Golf Resort Guide follows on the heels of our U.S. Golf Resort Guide and Caribbean Golf Resort Guide that launched in the past three years. They are essential resources for traveling golfers. Our Mexico Golf Resort Guide features information on 55 golf resorts spread throughout the country. No other golf publication has ever put together full resort guides like GolfPass. Usually, publications that create local golf course and resort guides are ad-driven, so you only see the courses and resorts that pay to be included. All three of our golf resort guides are all-inclusive.

The main page of our Mexico Golf Resort Guide introduces all 55 Mexican golf resorts, while also including features and news articles about golf in Mexico, Mexican golf packages and the Golfers' Choice lists that showcase the country's best courses open to the public. It would be wise to bookmark the page for future reference.

To learn more about an individual resort, simply click on the photo to access a resort page to see key facts like how many rooms, restaurants and courses are available at the property. Use the GolfPass reviews at the bottom of the page to determine if the golf course/courses are right for you. Our golf package page can help you decide where to travel, too, with more specific pricing.

Mexico’s golf scene, at least from an American perspective, is a tale of two coasts. Both the east and west coasts are lined with luxurious golf resorts. It’s the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez vs. the Caribbean Sea.

I know some golfers are probably nervous about traveling to Mexico. I've made more than 15 trips and never had a single issue. As long as you stick to the resort or golf course - or explore the nightlife in Cabo or Cancun sensibly with a group - everything should be enjoyable and safe.

Most golfers will flock to the golf resorts along the Pacific Ocean on the west coast or the all-inclusive resorts along Mexico's east coast near Cancun. Here's an introduction to each coast:

Mexico's best golf resorts near Cancun and Riviera Maya

Cancun and nearby Riviera Maya have long been a rowdy spring break hangout for high school and college kids looking for a party. Thankfully, many of the golf resorts in our guide are too nice for their limited budgets. Golfers can have their own kind of fun, choosing between multiple courses in the region on or off property, and relaxing afterwards by the pool, beach, spa or even at the bar. Many of the local golf resorts are all-inclusive, like the Moon Palace Golf Resort and Spa (home to 27 holes) or the two Iberostar resorts: Iberostar Playa Paraiso and Iberostar Cancun.

My favorite so far is the Rosewood Mayakoba, one of four luxury hotels inside the sprawling Mayakoba development, where Norman's El Camaleon Mayakoba Golf Club has hosted both the PGA TOUR and LIV Golf. Guests reach their suites by taking a water taxi through the mangroves. Check out my photos below.

Mexico's best golf resorts near Cabo and Riviera Nayarit

Cabo - located at the tip of the Baja Peninsula - has risen above all contenders to become the premier golf destination in Mexico. There are 11 different golf resorts here, and you better choose wisely. Many of Cabo's best courses are resort private, meaning golfers need to stay on property to play them. For example, only golfers staying at the Montage Los Cabos can play Twin Dolphin. Likewise, staying at one of the adjacent Pueblo Bonito Resorts is required to book a tee time to the stunningly gorgeous Quivira.

Quivira Golf Club
Several of the par 3s at Quivira Golf Club cling to the ocean cliffs.

Many Cabo rounds cost $300 and up because they are lavish affairs where comfort stations provide all the food and drink golfers could ever want. Cabo also boasts a desert climate, so rain is rarely an issue. The destination seems suspended in a perpetual golf season from 70 to 85 degrees. The one downside of its location is many of its beaches aren't swimmable. The convergence of the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean creates dangerous waves and currents.

Back on the mainland, Mexico's west coast counters with its own stretch of memorable golf resorts from the Riviera Nayarit to Punta Mita and Puerto Vallarta. Mazatlan (five hours north) and Acapulco (much farther south) are other options.

The best of these is Punta Mita, home to 37 holes and two luxury beachside hotels. Why 37 holes? The famous 3B "Tail of the Whale" hole on the Pacifico Course at Punta Mita plays to a natural island green in the middle of the ocean. Depending on the tide, golfers might be able to play the hole or simply hit the tee shot and move on.

Perhaps this one hole personifies Mexican resort golf best. It's equal parts fun, scenic, memorable and truly one of a kind.

Playing the "Tail of the Whale" hole -- a natural island green in the ocean -- makes a round on the Pacifico so special.
