About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Awesome Course
Wind and greens make this course really hard. Great layout.
Great course
Wind and greens make this course a lot tougher than it should be. Course was in great shape.
Fun Course
Greens are true and the course is very well maintained. I really enjoyed the GPS in the cart. Pace was exceedingly slow, but other than that, it is a good course.
Above average and great value
Course was is excellent condition, very challenging layout but with plenty of opportunities to score low if you stay in the fairway. Definitely windy as you expect on links courses so be prepared to make club adjustments to compensate. Layout of this course has long stretches between holes so if you plan to walk, be sure to take that into consideration. The practice range leaves much to be desired; by far the worst part of the course. Overall: an above average course with great value.
Fun Course
Really fun course and worth playing once if in the area. The greens are pristine and the wind can make for a challenging round.
However, I felt that management could be taking the pandemic more seriously and be more upfront about their policies. Pro shop staff weren't wearing masks indoors (mandated by North Carolina). Single carts were not available unless paid extra for (unlike most other courses). I don't believe there is any requirement for the course to provide single carts; I just wish that they had included that information on their website, so I would have known prior to booking.
Solid course
Greens are quick. Course is good shape with a few weird holes but in general a god track to play. Carts have good yardage system to use so helps with the price tag. Definitely will play again when visiting.

Fun course to play
I had read some reviews prior to booking the tee time and they were all correct. This was a great course to play. The greens were outstanding. They rolled true and virtually no divot marks. The fairways and rough were in great shape as well. Each cart has GPS that gives you to the pin location as well as front and back. It was easy to use so you knew what your carry or layup to a hazard was. If I vacation in the area again I will definitely come back to this course.
