Ironclad Golf and Beer Garden
About
Ironclad Golf and Beer Garden (formerly known as Belvedere Country Club) in Hampstead begins along the Intracoastal Waterway and then moves inland towards the clubhouse. The back nine is routed through tall forests that provide a home to grey heron and osprey. The golf course forms a large figure eight, which means you won't find any parallel fairways, but you will also be faced with wind whipping in every direction. The unique layout consists of six par 3s, seven par 4s, and five par 5s that all place a heavier emphasis on accuracy than distance. Many of the greens are elevated and the fairways are lined with trees. The par 3s are some of the most demanding holes due to their small, narrow greens. They are the toughest greens to hit in regulation but luckily if your placement isn't perfect there are still opportunities to save your score.

Fun golf/Great Beer!
We recently moved to the Topsail area and are avid golfers. We’ve played 3 other courses in the area so far, and this is our favorite. Great course layout. Good mix of different shots required. Fairways are in excellent condition. Yes, there are a couple of greens (2) that need serious repair, but this is an excellent public course overall. Beer was fresh and tasty. Overall value is excellent. We’ll be back many times.
Great idea and look forward to seeing improvements
I love the idea having the course and brewery nearby. The pickle ball courts is also a great attraction. The course is needing repairs on multiple greens. Fairways were in decent shape and so are the bunkers. They need to improve the greens and it would be well worth the cost.
Pleasant surprise
Great place to have a relaxing round. The course still needs some work however you can see it being done. The staff is friendly beer is cold. Perfect !!!
Nice layout
The front 9 was great for pace of play. The back 9 was totally different had to wait on every hole. The greens were not in the best shape. Looks like they are trying to get course back in shape.
Beer was great in the beer garden!
Old golfer - first round
First time plating at this course and did enjoy the round. Played with a local young man that really made finding my way around easier and was good company. Didn't have senior tees set up so I ended up playing to long for my ability which did hurt my score some so I will play the red tee next round. In the value I said average but that was for $20, but much more it would not have been a good value. They are trying to bring back an older course which I appreciate but the greens could be better. That being said it seems to be the best bargain in the area but I am new to the area. Trying not to be too critical and at the same time be honest. Did enjoy the round and will play there again.
Iron Clad
The staff are extremely helpful and freindly! The local brews from the brewery are on tap in the clubhouse and they are more than delicious! I would definitely play this course again soon
Much improved.
Course is much improved. If management can get control of 3-4 greens and continue to improve the rest of the course and facilities this will be a really nice golf experience.
Needs some green work
The layout is good and challenging, but several of the greens were inn terrible conditions. It was cart path only and the first 9 hole were very very slow but 2nd nine was excellent pace. I would not go back again if the greens are not repaired.
Looking forward to the future!
I've lived in southeastern NC since the 1990s, and I knew the course by reputation under its old name, but I had never played the course. I also knew it had fallen into a state of disrepair and wasn't shocked it closed last march. The guys at Ironclad Brewery have done an amazing job since purchasing the course in June of 2020! The layout is stellar, the amenities they are building toward are going to be epic- draft beer on the driving range, a beer garden and more! The new owners have put in a lot of work to begin making this course a true gem in the Wilmington area! Greens were smooth and fast, a few still needed some work on the back 9... but May was extremely dry for us and they just opened the back 9 in April. We are definetly looking forward to regular visits and to see what they do over the next few years! I am pretty sure Ironclad Golf and Beer Garden will be worth anyone's trip!
The only recommendation I have-- a beer management system! All the beers are draft and from their own brewery. Without cans or bottles you have to purchase all your cups on your wait out. I'd recommend renting or checking out growlers were patrons can pay for the beer and then have it readily available on the course!
Moneys Worth
Great course at a great price. My son and I had a great time playing here. From what I saw, this is a course in the making. The greens were a little shady but you could see the work they are putting in to them. Also many tee areas were under repair which was a good thing in my opinion. In a couple years I can see this course as a really great one. Just hope the prices don’t rise.
Really wet from the rain but a fun course
The conditions couldn’t be helped, it was super wet. Some of the greens are still coming together and need some work, but overall it was a great experience and a lot of fun for us. Great beer too.
Had a GREAT time!
I have to say this course is a really good buy for your price....they have now opened the back 9 and it is great condition and enjoyed playing it !!! I would recommend this course to you easily ...!!! The Front nine is what we played so often and it's a great start now ....Enjoy this course..!!! I did..!!
Great course
Lived on the course since 2005. Has had multiple owners before the current guys. Glad to finally see someone not only having the course in great shape but the facilities as well. Beer garden at the driving range is an added plus.
