Ironclad Golf and Beer Garden (formerly known as Belvedere Country Club) in Hampstead begins along the Intracoastal Waterway and then moves inland towards the clubhouse. The back nine is routed through tall forests that provide a home to grey heron and osprey. The golf course forms a large figure eight, which means you won't find any parallel fairways, but you will also be faced with wind whipping in every direction. The unique layout consists of six par 3s, seven par 4s, and five par 5s that all place a heavier emphasis on accuracy than distance. Many of the greens are elevated and the fairways are lined with trees. The par 3s are some of the most demanding holes due to their small, narrow greens. They are the toughest greens to hit in regulation but luckily if your placement isn't perfect there are still opportunities to save your score.

Diamond in the rough

New owners definitely trying to revive old Belvedere they’re making progress but oh so slow I’m hoping next time back to Hampstead that the revitalization process is moving a little faster

Golf courses require significant capital and no doubt these guys are trying hard using the beer garden as a novel idea for the area and it’s working!

Good luck guys

Needs some green work

Not too bad of a place to golf. One green was impossible to putt and a couple others need some repairs, The fairways lack any yardage markings but I used an app to determine yardage. Also my app still shows this course as Belvidere on golflinx. For the money not bad at all and I would recommend if you are not looking for perfection. We will play again,

$20 on a hot deal for 18 holes and a cart! Course was in generally good condition except for a couple par threes with surface of the moon greens, and the connection with ironclad means there's good craft beer available at the turn.

Fun course

Yes, the course needs work. Yes the range sucks. Pace is awesome, bunkers were good, and pace was great. This course is fun golf. If you’re looking for pristine conditions look elsewhere. If you want a cheap track, good atmosphere, and good beer, this is it.

Solid Course for the Money

The front 9 is great! Love playing a short 9 here. The back 9 needs some work but they are working on it. For the money this is a great place to play. Very friendly staff and golfers. Also very clean!

Beware.

Had read a few reviews about the course being in rough shape but they were fixing it up. Wasn’t our first choice but due to short notice all we could get. Wow!! This course needs a ton of work. I get that it may have been bad before but it doesn’t appear that they are actually fixing the course. There was an immense amount of sand on the greens. Clearly to try to fix them but man it was impossible to putt on them. Then the tee boxes had more undulations than the greens plus when I would tee off on a par three I had to use a 3 1/4” tee because the grass was so long. Then to pay $35 a round was ridiculously over priced. Monday played a course 20 miles from there at $27 and was in fantastic shape. Overall doesn’t look like there fixing up the place so be cautious booking here.

Dave

The course needs some attention, however it has potential that it could be a very nice course with some work.

Course has new owners and is being renovated. Greens (5 or 6 of 18) in disrepair but playable. Tees need work too. But overall the layout is fair and play is fun. Really great to have fresh draft IPA after round! Terrific value if you can handle imperfections.

Restoring course

Enjoyed the round on a perfect day. They are in the process of bringing back a course that looks like had gotten run down a bit. Have played several times and the course is getting better so they are doing a good job. Couple of the greens are a little ragged but they are working on them and that's all you can ask. Overall I enjoy playing there.

Going through growing pains

Great course for the money if you can deal with a few hiccups as it gets off the ground. It’s been recently reopened and as such they are still working on some of the greens, there aren’t any 150 yardage markers on the holes so you’ll be guessing yardage if you don’t have a range finder on you. Layout is fun though, very laid back atmosphere, friendly staff. Looking forward to seeing what this course grows into down the road.

Laid-back range, solid course for the money with improvements on the way

We played Ironclad in early September 2021, and it was a solid course for the money ($30pp). I would pay double that to play it in a few months when they’re done with everything they’re working on. It looks like they’re going to have a really awesome beer garden and clubhouse, it’s just mid-build at the moment.

Would I take a prospect/client? Probably not

Would I take my father-in-law in an attempt to impress him? Absolutely not.

Would I take some friends for a round (of both beers and golf)? Abso-friggin-lutely.

The course is a fun layout but they’re definitely still working on refining some aspects (like the greens… don’t go if you’re actively trying to work on your putting).

The course has a lot of short, challenging par 3s and gettable par 5s mixed with some pretty straight-forward par 4s. Really good variety compared to some other courses, especially along the coast. Good undulation for a mostly flat landscape.

Just enough challenge and forgiveness to make it just the right amount of fun and frustrating for a solid round.

Definitely worth a trip, especially once they’re done with all of the awesome improvements!

Getting better!

The course still has some ways to go, but it was overall a great place to be. Tee box’s need love as well as some of the greens, but they are constantly working on this course. Can’t wait to see the final product!
