About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Golfer Reviews
The fairways and greens were in great condition. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We got rained out halfway through and can’t wait to go back and golf the complete course. Some holes may be challenging an overall a very good experience.
Castle Bay
Carts were nice , and were electric with USB ports , and GPS tracking! Distance to hole was clear and easy to read.
Bar/ Restaurant ordering at the turn was easy, and I recommend the very delicious Italian sub. Bartender had my order ready when I walked in.
Now the golf course, staff and layout was for me, very nice. I played alone and had a good pace going and enjoyed my round very much.
Always a great experience!
4.5 hours is a bit slow
Disappointed
I’ll start by saying that I do like playing this course…but I was very disappointed when I played on the 19th of july. The pace was very slow. I had to wait at least 8-10min at pretty much every tee box. The greens were in rough shape and the most disappointing part was that it was 105° outside and every water pitcher on the course was empty…and I didn’t see the snack/beverage cart at all on the front 9 and only once on the back..
I’ve always enjoyed playing here until this last round.. I will probably still play here but it won’t be one of my tops picks anymore or at least it won’t be until things improve a bit more.
Good track - needs water
I like the layout of Castle Bay very much. The hot weather hasn't done it any favors, though, as there are numerous fairways that are burned out. The greens were good, though, which is the most important part.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. Amenities are great, as well. Overall, a very nice place to play and I would definitely go back.
Great value, great course, incredible staff!
I cannot say enough good things about the staff at this facility; they are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The course itself was in phenomenal shape—the greens rolled fast and true, the tee boxes were well-maintained, and the fairways were beautiful. The grass portions easily deserve a solid 9/10 for excellent grooming. My only minor critique would be the bunkers, which were quite compacted. Adding some finer sand would make the greenside bunkers much more playable. However, it was the same for everyone, so it didn't ruin the experience. Keep in mind that the open design allows for a lot of wind. While this affects your strategy, it is incredibly refreshing on a hot summer day. I highly recommend this course!
Decent
Decent course for the money. Greens are a little inconsistent on speed and some are a bit bumpy but playable.
Hidden gem in Hampstead
Always in great condition and friendly staff. My favorite in area.
Excellent Course
