Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club is peacefully tucked away with the Great Smokies sheltering it to the west. It offers some of the most stunning views of any golf course in western North Carolina. Although it feels remote, Asheville is less than half an hour away. The mountainous surroundings provide a dramatically hilly terrain that is ideal for a challenging round of golf. Players will face plenty of uneven lies on this layout. The elevation changes also provide some interesting risk-reward opportunities throughout the golf course. Mature trees frame most of the holes and the small, sloped greens are often framed with bunkers. The Cummings Cove layout seems unusually short at only 6,415 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The undulating terrain makes it feel much longer.

First time playing here

The Pro shop staff and Ranger are EXTREMELY friendly and very helpful. They paired us with a member and he was very helpful and also very friendly. Course is in very good shape. Greens are are very nice and roll very true. Course is not long but you need to be accurate. I hit several 4 irons off tee box and had 100 to 125 into the green. Course management is a tool to use here. I recommend this course highly. We will be back. Definitely give this course a chance.

Very friendly staff!!

Course was in great shape, especially the greens! Tree lined fairways made for a challenge but not excessively tough. Layout of the course is very good. Almost no one was out there so our pace of play was fast. The staff at the course was extreme accommodating, as we made an error and showed up 1.5hrs early. They were nice enough to send us off the back and fit us right in on the front without interfering with anyone else. The starter Pete was a great guy and made sure we had an enjoyable round. Would strongly recommend this course!!

Great mountain course

Out of town and found this on golf now. Course is kept in very good shape and has great views. Short but challenging. If you spray the ball then you might want to bring 3 or 4 sleeves. Course was playing tough, greens were tough and fast. A couple holes where I chipped into the middle of the green on a slope and my ball rolled off. Loved the layout very unique with memorable holes. I don’t know if 55 dollars is their summer rate, but if it is that is a total steal.

Cummings Cove Meh

They had a tournament the week before, and another tournament the afternoon after I played, so I figured it would be in good shape. The course doesn’t drain well, so there were lots of soggy mud holes, but the biggest problem is the greens. Untrue with lots of sand, ridges, tire treads etc. I figured they’d at least have the greens in good shape for tournament play. Also, they have a decent bar, but it’s been closed for months. I used to play here a few times a month and always stayed for drinks/food after. Now the bar is always closed. Terrible pace of play. We chose to skip several holes due to frustratingly slow play and still couldn’t finish in 4 hours. Why do they even pay a starter/ranger? Slow play is tolerable if they sell beer…but Cummings Cove won’t open up their bar to sell any beverages. I think they are going bankrupt or something.

Disappointing

I love this golf course, have likely played it more than any other in the Asheville area. In my opinion, it has one of the best layouts around and is an absolute joy to play. However- this is not a $55 golf course in its current condition. Seems like half the bunkers are ground under repair and greens haven’t recovered since being punched a month ago. I would pay $55 to play this all day long if conditions were better, it’s a shame to see them struggling with conditions likely due to lack of funding from ownership/management

Good legs, bad management

Course should be one of the best public’s near Asheville. Layout is great, land is even better. Unfortunately poor course management will make me hesitant to return. TWICE miscommunications between the clubhouse and starter lead me not to get out at my scheduled time. The first time I was booked, on the tee sheet, and told I had to rain check because I was the last to check in and there were four on the box. Today, I showed up to the practice green 10 minutes before my tee time and was told that they couldn’t get me out because the twosome I was paired with was on the third hole. How? They got to the course 45 mins early and were told to head out. My choices were to start on Hole 3 or rain check again. While the layouts nice, the greens were aerated Tuesday and were the worst I’ve ever seen greens undergoing work (I’ve played the day after an aeration yet these were literal beaches that were almost unplayable).

Not going back and I’d recommend not booking unless you’re a foursome so you don’t get hosed like I did (twice).

Fun course.

This was a fun mountain course to play. I thought is was a short course until I realized so many shots were straight up the mountain! Unfortunately, they had just aerated the greens and they were almost unplayable. Otherwise the course was in great shape. Not sure what so many holes were cart path only as it slowed play a little and it didn’t seem wet or necessary. The clubhouse staff and starter were great, very nice and helpful. I would definitely play this course again. Well worth the price.

Great value

Course was in really good shape. Staff had trouble with credit card payments for the second time in a row. Food options are minimal. Value is excellent.

Lots of elevation changes. Great Mtn views off the back

Played many times. Fun layout 3 par 5's on the back. Creeks ponds elevated tees and tiered greens.

Course has drainage challenges and had good rains earlier in the week, so front 9 was CPO, which caused the pace of play problem, just over 5hrs.
