Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club
About
Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club is peacefully tucked away with the Great Smokies sheltering it to the west. It offers some of the most stunning views of any golf course in western North Carolina. Although it feels remote, Asheville is less than half an hour away. The mountainous surroundings provide a dramatically hilly terrain that is ideal for a challenging round of golf. Players will face plenty of uneven lies on this layout. The elevation changes also provide some interesting risk-reward opportunities throughout the golf course. Mature trees frame most of the holes and the small, sloped greens are often framed with bunkers. The Cummings Cove layout seems unusually short at only 6,415 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The undulating terrain makes it feel much longer.

Enjoyed the course
My husband and I play a couple times a week, but this was the first time playing in the mountains. The course is beautiful and challenging. We probably should have moved up a tee box for more enjoyment. We found the greens to be fast. Definitely worth playing though.
Average at best
The course conditions are average for the price. The staff were friendly but I wouldn’t recommend it in the future.
Course is coming around
The staff is working hard to get the final holes back after Hurricane Helene. Overall, the course is in great shape. Still have work going on from Helene’s visit in Sept of ‘24 but much improved. I’ve played it 4x since the hurricane and seen progress each time. This is the most significant. All 18 should be opened up in the next week according to the club house. Only #8 remained closed on my latest visit. One of my local favorites. It does get a lot of league and members play and they are on THEIR course frequently. Most of them are great, but a few can be not so great. The staff tries to balance things out, but in the end, the members will get the benefit of doubt. Slow play can be an issue from time to time. Thankfully the staff is ok with you skipping a hole or 3 and coming back around to play if needed.
Would recommend
If you're looking for a course with almost perfect fairways & greens in the smoky mtns that doesn't charge an arm and a leg to play that's also peaceful, Cummings Cove won't disappoint. I was a little disappointed when they said 1 of the holes was still closed from Helene but it's understandable. As far as course goes, my only suggestion for improvement would be the cart paths. When it comes to everything else I'd only say that if you're gonna have a ranger drive around at 6pm asking if you're gonna finish when you're in the middle of #15 and there's 2 4somes in front of you taking 10min per hole, maybe don't sell a tee time after 3pm and maybe get an idea of why someone isn't playing as fast as you'd like like looking to see if they're having to wait on the group/s in front of them. Aside from those few minutes dealing with that ranger, we had a great time and although I probably won't make the 3hr trip again, I would recommend it. Nothing really special, but it's very well taken care of and a nice, different course if you're looking to mix it up from your regular rounds
Fun and challenging
Great course! Fun and challenging especially for Florida golfers not used to elevation changes. Good golf carts with GPS course in excellent shape except for one part three was closed nice bathrooms and water busy course, but the pace of play was pretty good. The restaurant looked nice overlooking the golf course but didn’t go in. Nice pro shop and friendly staff. good bang for the Buck would definitely go back and play this course again. Greens roll True and we’re in great shape, fairways and teeboxes in great shape Too.
Beautiful course
Absolutely beautiful! Challenging and fun. One of the holes unfortunately still closed from the flooding last year. Still awesome though!
Two worlds…
Paid with GolfNow online and the guy at the front desk told me that I owed the teetime price to the club. I had to show him proof of payment… Halfway through the first hole, another guy (the starter) came to see us telling me we had paid for 9 holes when we had really paid for 18. I had to show him proof of payment… Wow, what a greeting !!
I loved the layout thought even if the course was very wet due to heavy rain in the morning.
Nice Course
I think anybody that plays there will really like the layout. It’s fun, interesting and challenging. The greens were a little slow the day I played, but they were in excellent condition. They may have been a little too soft to roll because they had a lot of rain. Whole number eight was decimated by the hurricane so we were unable to play that hole as it is closed. Overall, I would recommend putting the course on your list to play go well worth the money. I paid booking through Golf now.
Still not repaired
With two holes closed and two severely shortened it was like playing only a partial round of golf. 50 bucks was too much money for a partial round.
Only 16 holes due to damage from Helene
Greens were in great shape but the course itself is in rough shape. Played here a couple years back and really enjoyed it and the course was well taken care of. Seems they have fallen on tough financial times. With in 2 minutes of walking in the pro shop they told me the course is for sale. Sad story. Staff was pleasant but very little play. Hope they get a new owner and turn it around. Also, never was posted they were down to 16 holes and the 9th hole went from a par 5 to a very short par 4. Still charged $58 for a 16 hole round.
