Golfer Reviews
Bobby Jones has been gone for more than 50 years, but his presence is still felt here, whether in the locker room, beside the first tee, or out in the quietest corner of the course: the bench beside the 17th tee box, perched above the par-3 16th green.
Donald Ross didn’t go full Ross when constructing this course. He opted for subtlety instead of severity, relying on blind tee shots and often even more concealed approaches to elevated greens to provide much of the deception.
A Gem in the Mountains of North Carolina
Highlands Country Club is a beautiful and challenging course set against a rolling backdrop of mountains. The course is fantastic for all levels. It's not a very long course but it's one that requires control of your golf ball because there are plenty of old trees and hazards in the way. There is also nice elevation change on many holes. The condition of the course is very good but the strength is the putting surfaces. They are very true and fast with plenty of movement to challenge even the best. Besides a great layout, Highlands has plenty of history. Highlands CC was Bobby Jones retreat from Atlanta while working for Coca-Cola. You see plenty of Jones memorabilia throughout the club including a full set of clubs that was featured in a Sports Illustrated article. If you are looking for a fun test of golf with nostalgia and a great staff to compliment your experience, Highlands Country Club is for you.
