Nothing that sticks out

I wouldn’t say that I walked away from this course, feeling disappointed, but there was really nothing that would ever draw me back. I was met with a pro shop employee who wasn’t rude by any means, but made it seem as though he would really rather be anywhere else. The golf course itself was nothing to write home about, the fairways were OK, but the greens need some serious help. They rolled very fast, but that’s because they were very bare. The tee boxes could also use a little bit of help as most of them were heavily worn and 50% sand the layout wasn’t bad, all of the fairways were either lined with trees or houses, but were plenty wide enough to where you could spray your Tee shot a little bit. It would be a very nice course if it were in better conditions because it is extremely scoreable.

New Greens Make the Difference

I used the be a member here and made it back to play over the Thanksgiving weekend. Two summers ago the course started replacing their old Bent grass greens with new Champion Bermuda. All 18 holes are now complete and the greens are awesome. They are smooth, fast and will hold your approach shot. Before the investment to replace the Bent grass I would have not recommended this course to anyone. Now I will play here every time I am back in the Fayetteville area.

The course did suffer damage from Hurricane Mathew and Hurricane Florence over the last few years but things are coming back together. The clubhouse is currently under renovation from Florence. Looking forward to the new amenities being added with the renovation. Along with the greens and clubhouse they have made some small improvements elsewhere on the course. These enhancements make the course much more enjoyable.

The course layout is time tested and still holds up today. There is a tee box to match your game. Pay attention to landing spots and turns in the fairway so that you hit the correct club. The 9th hole is a great par 3 over water that plays slightly up hill. The greens are large with great character. They break true to what you see.

I recommend this course now and going forward with the improvements they are making.

Good For The Money

Played 9 holes (front) in the afternoon. Course was challenging. The condition of the course was okay. Some of greens needed some love, but I just chalked it up to the beginning of the season and would improve in time.

I'd go there again to play, mostly because it's so close to where I live.

Great Greens, Views, and Approach shots

The course doesn't look like much when you pull up and the range and range balls are in very very rough shape. BUT the greens are in very very good condition. They are very fast and they move a ton. The course make you move the ball a good bit off the tee but it doesn't necessarily make you club down which is a huge plus. Some of the tee shots look pretty normal but the approach shot into most of the greens other than #10 are great with water and bunkers protecting many. The fairways are in pretty good condition. If you can move the ball with your driver then you can score pretty low out there. I really really liked the course setup, no two holes are the same. Some are tight tee shots and some are wide open. Tee it up from the back if you drive the ball 240+. #11 is a hybrid off the tee for most. There is tons of wildlife out there, i saw turtles, geese, ducks, and deer on #12. All the par 3s are really nice. The greens are the best I've seen around fayetteville and it isn't even close. The front 9 is very very nice, makes you shape shots and has TONS of scenery. If you hit the ball on the wrong part of the green a 2 put will be pretty difficult. All in all its one of the only courses around i would recommend to anyone and play again. I loved the round and every shot is needed. i used every single club. Love this place

I made a nostalgic return to Cypress Lakes in early October

Our college golf team played at Cypress Lakes in 1968-70, when Mr. L.B. Floyd (Raymond's dad) ran the operation. The layout is still the same, presenting challenges where you have to work the ball off the tee, and carry all approach shots to the greens (no bounces/roll ups) When I played, the weather had been cold and rainy for several days, so the course had a "shaggy" feel to it, but I'm sure staff brought it up to speed as soon as the weather broke. The highlight of the layout continues to be the beautiful, challenging Par 3 ninth hole. It's a full carry, long iron/hybrid tee shot, over a lake that appears to have been transplanted from the Everglades. Hitting the green is an accomplishment, but making par is difficult, for this green has much more contour and double breaks than the 8 holes that preceded it. I enjoyed my round, beat the rainstorm by a full 3 minutes ... and I look forward to getting back there in springtime ... the course is still great !
