Pleasant Weekday Outing
Played Scothurst for the first time in 20+ years and was pleasantly surprised. There was construction underway but overall, the grounds were neat and orderly. The young lady at the counter was friendly and got us onboard quickly. The carts were clean and in good working order. We didn't use the clubhouse much, but it seemed comfortable.
I doubt the U.S. Open will ever be held here, but the course has good variety and was often challenging. I'm a C or D+ golfer at best and lost two balls and found two balls. There are some moderate elevation changes and occasional water. The course designer made good use of what he had to work with, and nothing seemed contrived.
Despite the onset of winter, there was plenty of grass. The greens were decent and ran true with no surprises. The combination of the naked hardwoods blended with evergreens was picturesque.
The green fees were very reasonable and well worth the price. My group had a lot of fun and I'm guessing we'll be back soon.
Great course
Great family course. Staff is tremendous. Easy to get tee times. Greens are great. Roll as good as high end courses. Fairways are in great shape now and layout is fun. I'm a low handicapper and course is Open enough to forgive marginal shots but difficult to go low. I've played a lot of courses and given low cost and family atmosphere, it is as good a budget friendly course as I've played. They have a reasonably priced membership as well . Feels like "Cheers" where everyone knows your name.
Fun Layout in bad condition
I was actually surprised to see that the course didn't look horrible when i pulled up. Club house, carts, and staff friendliness are very poor. The course seemed like it was probably fun and nice about 20 years ago, with a decent layout. The greens are in ok condition, maybe a 6/10. They weren't burnt out and rolled nicely. The par 5s were pretty long from the back. The course layout is fun and pretty wide open, you don't need to be accurate to shoot low here. Cart paths are almost no existent and fairways are just backyard grass with very little attention to them. I paid $29 on a friday and i would say this course would be worth it at $14. GREAT starter course or a course for juniors though. All in all, not very well maintained and no website either. Steer clear.
