About
Opened in 1922, Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount boasts an original Donald Ross course. Many of his designs demand strong iron play and accurate tee shots, and this course is no different. Small, fast greens are the course's signature feature. Undulating breaks make them difficult to read at times. The layout starts with a relatively open front nine where bunkered greens are the most prominent challenges. The back nine is longer and there are more trees and penalty ditches. The 16th hole is one of the most challenging on the golf course with a plateau green that sits four feet above the fairway and flanked with bunkers. The title of most difficult hole though, goes to Benvenue Country Club's fourth hole. There are out-of-bounds along the entire right side of the fairway on this hole and the narrow opening to the green is tightly bordered by three bunkers.

A great course that if you hit it above the hole all day you will struggle

Unbelievable course, definitely in my top 10. It’s all right in front of you, but brutally difficult. Greens are the toughest I’ve played. Can’t wait to play it again!
Classic Donald Ross Gem in Eastern NC
Benvenue CC is a classic Donald Ross golf course located in eastern North Carolina. The course is lined with tall pines and massive 100 year old oak trees. The course is challenging, but fair with very sloped greens that are consistently some of the best greens in the state. Walking this course is very easy and most rounds can be completed in well under 4 hours. The Pro Shop and outside staff are friendly and attentive and the Pro Shop is always well stocked with the finest logoed clothing to commemorate your round.There is also a working hand water pump on the course that celebrates a course that was built in the early 1900s.
Donald Ross Gem
Private club but a few tee times available for non-residents as a "guest of the pro," if you call ahead. Uncrowded with classic compact layout makes course easy to play in four hours or less. Champions Bermuda greens are always in superb condition - firm, quick and true. Don't let scorecard fool you, the course will challenge your game with multiple tees matched to age and ability. Reminiscent of Pinehurst courses, it has hosted US Amateur qualifiers and state amateur tourneys in recent years.
