The New Northgreen
I am proud of the fact that the new owner is INVESTING in the course. We're talking about a course that was the host of MAJOR college championships in previous years. Im excited to see the restoration! It's already underway!
Potential
This has the potential of being a hidden gem. I’ve watched it develop over the last couple of months and what an amazing job!
All Greens terrible shape, fairways not cut, bunkers haven’t seen a rake all year.
Looks to be remodeling. I would wait until course is finished remodeling. I guess this is why course is so cheap.
Poor course maintenance
First time I played on this course I aborted at hole 8 because the fairway grass was tall & extremely difficult to find the golf ball. Lost 3 then. One hole (4?) had brown grass & no mark that it was for a red tee.
Second time, Aug. 3rd, I'd only done 4 holes & decided to abort again. Lost 5 balls. I do not want to waste time searching for balls.
The cart path great, but crossing on traffic streets (cars speed are unpredictable) multiple times is not safe at all, it's a risk that a player has to take when crossing.
Overall "NOT" worth the rate I paid twice. The tee areas& the greens are very poorly maintained. Scratched this course off my list.
Up and coming
I’m new to the area from the Piedmont area and can see the potential in what is happening here. Keep up with your improvement and you’ll be fine.
Brutal conditions
Tried out the course while in the area. Course was probably in the worst condition I’ve ever seen for a course that was open for business. Greens were terrible and impossible to putt. Fairways weren’t even fairways. I hope they get it back in shape for the members and others wanting to play. The layout has potential to be a quality place to play. Appears a ton of money was dumped into cart paths instead of the grass the game is played on. The sod hasn’t been watered and is completely dead.
New Owner working to improve customer experience
If you’re looking for an affordable place to play, it’s a good choice. The green were not the best but after I talked to the owner she explained they just acquired the course a little over a year ago and they working on improving the course. I will be back , the staff was great and the pace of play was great. I’m interested to see how it improves over the next couple years.
Its Getting Better
This course has improved significantly compared to last year, and I expect it will continue to get better. The cart paths are now top-notch since they were redone. However, there's still room for improvement in the maintenance of the fairways, rough, and greens. I’ll always support this course since it’s home for me. If it continues progressing at the pace it has over the past six months, it’s well on its way to regaining its reputation as a premier course in Rocky Mount, NC.
Needs Work
New owner is putting in a lot of work to turn this place around, but he started on the cart path instead of the greens and fairways. I’m used to loosing a few balls when I shank them, but I lost two sleeves in the fairways. The rough was mowed better than the fairways. The greens were either bald or weedy with more bounce than a freshly punched green.
I’m sure the new owner will bring it up to par, but right now, it’s a rough course.
Good things coming?
New concrete cart paths and other construction activities show promise but course in poor condition all around. Maybe improvements will continue and the course can return to its former glory, time will tell. Call before going and check on the progress. Hoping improvements continue, the layout shows potential.
Don’t waste your money
This course hosted the ACC tournament late 80s to the early 90s. I don’t understand how it got to the condition it’s in today. Staff was friendly but the greens were dirt, no grass. Fairways hadn’t been mowed in who knows how long. Finding your ball is extremely difficult. The bunkers have compacted sand and weeds growing throughout the bunker. Do not waste your money!
A Club On The Rise, With Heart
It's truly encouraging to see the slow and steady improvements happening at Northgreen. You can tell they're working incredibly hard to regain their stride after the hurricane, and while results will naturally take time, the overall experience remains great. The staff are consistently friendly and genuinely welcoming, which really makes a difference. Plus, the nice events at the restaurant add a lovely touch, making it clear this club is much more than just a course – it's a community feeling. They're making fantastic progress, and I'm excited to see what the future holds!
Worst I have ever played.
Do not, and I repeat DO NOT play this course. The greens are 20% actually green and rougher than asphalt. The fairways, if you want to call it that are like goat tracks. 1 golf cart died on the first 9. Only the back 9 is open. We were going to play is twice to get our 18 in. Called it a day after 9
Can’t be worst
Good layout but don’t go. There is no grass on the fairway and the Green. Weed all over the place, can’t even cut the grass. I understand some golf courses have money problems but this is beyound acceptable. Golf now , don’t ruine your name.
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!
Had a tee time for 12:50, payed ahead of time. Got there and they didn’t have any charged carts because “they didn’t get plugged up yesterday”. Waited 2 hours for a charged cart that we had to push after hole #6. Requested another cart at the turn and was given one that was “plugged up for 5 minutes”. Cart died at the tee of the #12, and had to walk back. For the same price you can play Belmont that’s 10 minutes up the road. This course is by far the worst conditions you can possibly find. Tall grass, holes and fire ants on the dead weed infested greens. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!
North green course
This course is very challenging for a high handicap golfer.
Unfortunately it has been hit with a couple bad weather events that has left it in rough shape. Seems that the grounds crew is trying to get it back in shape. Many folks knock the course for its poor shape but that just makes it better for me to learn my game. I like the challenges the holes present.
