Waste of time and money
Drove almost 2 hours and found out the course is in bad shape and only 9 holes open . There is no other courses available to the public
hurricane Helene badly damaged the course
k fault of the owners and the staff was great. but it will take BE at least a full year and plenty of investment to return the course to what it once was. the fairways are like playing out of the rough, the tee boxes and some of the greens and surrounds have suffered. and you can just tell by the number of large tree trunks still in the rear that the damage was extensive. THIS IS NO ONE'S FAULT-A CONSEQUENCE OF THE STORM. CAN IT BE REBUILT TO EXCELLENT CONDITION = PROBABLY NEED A SPECIAL SUPERINTENDENT AND PLENTY OF INVESTMENT DOLLARS TO MAKE IT GREAT AGAIN. I LOOK FORWARD TO RETURNING NEXT YEAR AND SEEING HOW IT HAS PROGRESSED.
Poor green maintenance
All the greens are in terrible condition. Thought they would be better since the club has been reduced to 9 holes. Sand traps looked like they are never worked on. Full of weeds. For $50 didn't expect much, but was disappointed
It's Complicated
To begin with, Hurricaine Helene did this course no favors last September. When we booked online it was for only 9 holes with no explaination why 18 holes were not an option. Entering the course via the main entrance we were detoured via hand written signs winding through the property to the Clubhouse. Once we arrived and checked in the very friendly staff notified us what was up. Holes 1-9 were open for play for non-members as were #10 & #18. Ok, I get it. This area was ravaged by rain and wind last September and there is still much to be done. That said, calling this course a goat track is an insult to the legitimate goat tracks out there. I have never been to the surface of the moon but these greens resembled what I would imagine it to look like. Baked mud and a few sprigs here and there in between goose droppings. I am no agronomist but I don't see the connection between a hurricane 9 months ago and completely losing your greens. The crabgrass in the fairways was thriving but sparse on the tee boxes. This is one of the few public courses in the area you can play w/o staying on the grounds of a resort and paying a lot for a round of golf. Just know what you are getting into and consider a local rule the members have and take 2 strokes once your ball is on the "putting surface".
Insufficient Information
The course had only 9 holes open due to storm damages, but the booking info did not warn about this. I was only able to lay the 9 holes for the price of 18, not acceptable.
Fun at Sapphire-June 2025
Sapphire is a wonderful course. Currently the course has just 10 holes open. Course has been hard hit by recent nasty weather. Course is in need of some tinder loving care. Layout is wonderful, holes challenging, yet does not harshly punish you if your shot is off.
Staff is terrific and most attentive.
I plan on playing this course again in the fall. Mike
Major work needed!
Make sure to read small print it, it's only 9 of the 18 holes open. The tee-boxes and greens were in need of major work. Quite possibly the worst greens I have ever played! Such a disappointment as it looked so good online.
Quite disappointing. Part of the fault lies with Golfpass.
Closest public course to my fiancee's home, been wanting to play for some time, quite a shame.
No practice green, there went my warmup!
No tee markers, have to waste time searching for yardage markers, many have none.
Greens very slow, not mown? Some are in terrible shape. Some fairways appear not mown, can't tell them from the rough.
Tunnel toward #11 closed, thanks to the map on the scorecard we did manage to find it.
Nowhere, here or on their website, is there mention of a huge washout at #12 tee, from the lake at #15. Golfpass should keep an eye on this, no one wants to find it out after paying and traveling!
Since there was no flag visible on 13, we went to 18 and backtracked to check others. Found the flag on 13 lying next to the hole, so I put it back up. The lake was about 1/2 depth, drowned golf balls by the thousands basking in the sun.
Found one green with no flag or hole, at least visible from the cart. Saw others playing one hole, but by that time was just too disgusted, what's the point if you can't get a complete score?
Perhaps it's just too early in the season for the conditions, but if holes are closed, that should be disclosed before teeing off, and especially before paying!
Get on it, Golfpass!
The course has a great layout and picturesque views.
Course is still recovering from NC storm and only has front nine open, and is at end of season.
Would love to return next year for a great experience
Slight improvement
This course has a beautiful setting and a great layout. The maintenance is pitiful. My recent visit there was a slight improvement. Leaves were blown off the fairways and sand had been placed in the bunkers, though no rakes were provided and the sand was not smoothed. The pro shop staff was excellent. Highest rating to them.
The advantage to this course right now is you can access the course and the daily deal rates are good. Beware a culvert collapsed near the tee box for #12 and cart path collapsed. You can not play the back nine.
Disasterous
We arrived to the course to figure that we could only play nine holes. Pro shop told us that nine holes were open and we could play it twice. It cost $45 for a round which is discounted through golf now. The course conditions are disastrous limbs everywhere leaves and the fairways covering bonkers. They had ran backhoes through the bunkers to try to clean them out. Course in terrible shape. Greens were inch and a half tall with their grass. Would never go back or recommend it to anybody else
Nice layout. Need work
The layout and scenery superb. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very disappointing the condition of the greens as well as bunkers. Fuzzy, patchy and thin greens. More grass in the bunkers. Non of the bunkers raked and hard.
Worst golf course EVER
It pains me to write this but if you play this course it’s only because you want to be outdoors. The owner should either use the land for development or shut it down and start again. Trust me this course was in the worst conditioned course I’ve ever played in the 53 years of golf. The only reason I didn’t give a one star overall is because the people were friendly…
Difficult course in no so good conditions
Narrow fairways, elevated tees and greens. Greens are very slow and in bad conditions . The bunkers on the course have been abandoned. The fairways are in good shape. Would not play again.
Great layout. Disappointing conditions
Very pleasant staff. The layout and scenery are outstanding. The conditions very disappointing. Need much work on the greens andsome on the bunkers..Overpriced. .
Course
The course was horrifying please don’t waste your time or money
