good carts and paths-course needs work
The Sapphire National course is a challenging layout to begin with. given its significant topography and numerous stream crossings, etc. When you play this course for the first time, you really need to drive up and look ahead because there are hazards you will not see from the tee. The course difficulty is compounded by the poor condition of the sand traps which have not been repaired/refurbished in quite some time. The footprints and ruts in the traps make them more than difficult, they are pretty much unplayable. it is peak fall foliage season with the leaves falling and although the foliage color was outstanding, unfortunately there were a lot of leaves in the rough areas and on several holes the fairways also had a thin coating of leaves. As a result, we spent a significant amount of time looking for our golf balls amongst the leaves. Several balls were abandoned because we just could not find them amongst the leaves.
The $90 rack rate for the course is not warranted with the course in its current condition. Using TeeTime we play for $65 but even that was too much for the course in its current condition.
Nice public course in an area where most are private
Played in late October so fall leaves occasionally made finding the ball a challenge, but the colors were spectacular.
Bunkers needed some work, but greens were in nice condition.
I will play it again!
Mountain Golf
A great out of the ordinary golf experience for a Floridian. Play here 4-6St times a year. When we play here we are not concerned with score. We just enjoy the challenge of having to hit shots we are not accustomed to hitting! This fall the greens were best I’ve seen them. Because the bunkers are not maintained, we take a free drop. Just enjoy the challenges, the views, and the experience of mnt golf!
Poor condition
Bunkers have been neglected which really took away the beauty of the course and playability if you were unfortunately in one!
Could be a really nice to play
2 main issues- bunkers not payable. Either dirt and sand mixed or dirt and weeds. only one Teebox I found that was in half decent shape, not much grass to tee off on other ones. Overall, course needs overhaul on landscaping. Still loved being in the mountains to play in the really nice fall conditions.
Great potential
Played here a handful of times. Love the layout and scenery. If the owner doesn't fix the drainage problem, this course will die soon. You can't cut grass slogging through mud. The best thing to happen to this course would be it being sold to Hilton. They would turn it into a playable and profitable course. Currently the green fee is completely unreasonable.
Atrocious Course Conditions
I very much want this golf course to simply be in reasonable condition. I do not expect to be pristine. But it should be moderately playable. On Sunday it was not. All tee boxes were little more than dirt. The fairways were unmowed and full of weeds. The bunkers appeared to have been abandoned years ago. The greens were like putting on shag carpet.
This course has a great layout and the scenery is spectacular. But the conditions of this course are the worst ever in several years. I live close by and would love for this to be my go to course. At this point it is my never go back to course.
Could be a great course but looks like it’s poorly managed, maybe due to no money being put into it.
Overpriced and Needs Maintenance
I loved the staff, but the lawn mowers must have been broken. The greens, tee boxes, and fairways were unplayable. They are leveraging the location and lack of public availability to price it at $90 a round. If it was a $40 round, would have a completely different review. Goat track
Can’t Recommend
The course is in terrible shape. The greens are shaggy. There are lots of grass clippings throughout the fairways. The fairways have alternating heights of grass in the same fairway as they weren’t mowed correctly. You have to remove your ball from the sand traps as they are in dire need of sand. The course does not drain well anywhere. Lost a ball on an approach shot that hit the apron of the green but the ball plugged so deep it disappeared. No range, no putting green. Clubhouse restaurant was closed.
Less than Par
Good layout, Hugh potential, but maintained poorly!
From tee to greens all areas lacked maintenance and attention.
Unfortunate!
We enjoyed our round of golf. Challenging with lots of hills. Many beautiful mountain views. Best shot of the day was a birdie on #15!

Grass was a little bit tall . The Fairways could be cut a little bit shorter. Greens as well. If cut to short you can expect to add 30 strokes to your round. That's coming from a 5 handy cap. I will play again
Awful condition miserably slow greens
Couldn’t finish the back nine. The course was in terrible shape. Greens haven’t been cut in awhile. For the price, literally go anywhere else, pay less, and have a far more enjoyable experience.
PASS
The course layout is fantastic. The views spectacular!!
I’ve played courses with shorter rough than the fairways at Sapphire.
Greens were very rough and slower than my shag carpet.
Save your $90 bucks and find a mini golf course nearby.
Very very very disappointed!!!!
