Condition poor, maintenance not professional
The course has a challenging layout and excellent views. The staff was extremely courteous and upbeat. That is where the enjoyment ended. The course is not in good condition. Grass cut clumps throughout. The greens are bare, yet very slow. The pace of play was quite slow. The bunkers are not at all maintained, you can see rain runoff on the walls of the bunker, so nobody raking them.
It is a shame as the course is in a great location. The rates are pretty high for the quality. If taken over by someone committed to course care, it could be a great track
Over all bad experience
Made the drive from Ashville, just to quit playing after 9 holes, pace of play was terrible, fairways had patches of long grass in them and the greens were the worst I’ve seen in a while.. Overall bad experience…
Nice mountain course with lots of elevation changes
First time to play here and will definitely come back. Staff was very nice. One negative is no driving range or practice green, so it's a cold start.
Frequent recent rains have kept them from mowing the fairways for several days, rough was very thick and almost all of the bunkers were flooded and unplayable, but you can't beat the scenery and interesting layout.
Not a course you can walk since some tee boxes are hundreds of yards away from each other. This course was laid out to maximize the real estate potential, but home sites are not intrusive and the cart paths thru forest and ravines are very nice. Even one small water fall along the path.
Some of the par 3's are very long for a senior player like me, but the elevated tee boxes for them make it manageable, even if you have to hit driver to get there.
The uphill shot to the tiny 13th green next to the waterfall and the island green on 15 are worth the price alone.
This is the only public 18 hole course in the area, so don't miss it if staying in the Cashiers, Sapphire Valley area.
The brewery has good pub food and lots of beers to chose from with a great view of the 8th and 18th greens.
Needs grass
Tee boxes were very bare, the weather probably meant they hadn't been able to mow for a few days, and the bunkers were in poor shape, again due to the weather.
Challenging course
Went through Golf Now to reserve tee time. That saved me alot. The course was beautiful and challenging to play. Not very busy so no pressure. Love the elevated tee boxes.
Sapphire National
Great views , very wet, they are in a rain forest. Staff is friendly
Never got to play
I had a 2:40 pm tee time and when we got to the course it was closed. The parking lot was dry (no trace of rain). We traveled 2 hours each way to play this course. We never received a text, call or email that the course was closed. I believe that the Pro shop manager only had a few tee times and decided to take the rest of the day off without any professional courtesy to call, text or email me and my party of the course being closed. Sapphire National ruined our whole day!!! I better not get charged for this tee time.
Only public course around Sapphire?!?
Nice layout. Greens were solid. Fairways excellent. Tee boxes ok. Bunkers need work and sand. Tough track, with typical mountain doglegs and uphill approaches. Nice set of par 3’s with an Island green on 15. Very scenic, with a waterfall adjacent to one green. My better half enjoyed the ride and the views. I believe it is only full size public course around here, not sure.
Awesome course and great Pro
Course has amazing views and I had the best time playing with my daughter today. The course has a few bunkers that the staff is working on but you can tell the maintenance crew is bringing this course back nicely. The Pro is extremely friendly and helpful and made our day spending time talking to my daughter. The restaurant also is great with a perfect view.
Sapphire National
Early season! Spectacular NC views! Fairways playable! Greens and tee boxes need maintenance! Bunkers in disrepair, some without sand!
Overall, I would play it again! Hoping for better conditions next year! Great service at the club!
Southern hospitality at its best! Worth the $53.
Most enjoyable round of golf to date
Wow. Stunning scenery, great staff, fantastic food, this place is my favorite! Can’t wait to get back
Early season round
Staff was friendly and food was very good. Course is under new management and work to improve the greens and bunkers were underway. Nice layout, fun course to play, very senic, would play again later in the season to see how the course has improved.
Nice course - rough greens
First time @ the sapphire national. The greens were not in good shape but it was May so maybe that is typical early in the season in the mountains...
Stunning
Had a great time at Sapphire National...the views were stunning, and the course was very challenging for a 12 handicapper. The staff was extremely welcoming. I only wish I could have played it again the next day. I will be back!
