Sapphire Mountain
The course was in great shape although the rough was very deep and was almost impossible to get a club on it, I think recent rains restricted being able to cut. Greens were excellent, fast but fair.
First time playing here
Beautiful, challenging, out in the middle of nowhere course on top of a mountain. Was very wet so it was cart path only. Score card showed 5 sets of tees- black, blue, white, gold, red. I usually play blue and was a little disapointed when i realized they were out where the black should have been, didnt see any black tees all day and played from the tips. Over 1 hour and 15 min drive both ways but i saved $100 off reg price for a two some by booking through golfnow. Fun!
Great layout, condition of bunkers and fairways not so great
This is a wonderful mountain layout. We found the course played much longer than the yardage would indicate. But you get hardly any roll. A lot of blind shots, so the yardage book is a must. The greens were in good shape, but due to weather, had not been cut. Also, it was imperative that you stayed out of the rough. If you found your ball in the rough, it was very difficult to get out, and virtually impossible to get out any distance.
We were also looking forward to eating at the Brewery afterward. Upon arriving, we found out it was closed for the day due to a party the day early. It would have been nice to know so we could have scheduled our tee time for another day.
The cart guy was very friendly, and gave us some tips prior to teeing off. The other two guys were all business though.
Our group was split, two didn't want to come back, and two would return. The blind shots and the thick rough were the biggest reason.
A Scenic Cow Pasture
While the course looks beautiful in pictures, it is not kept up. The fairways and most of the greens were horrendous. There were weeds growing in the bunkers. We paid $60 but it is not worth that much. Pace of play was fine as there weren't many people playing that day/time. This was the only 18 hole non-private course we could find in the area, but I would not recommend it, and would not play it again.
Interesting mountain course. Could use some maintenance help.
Beautiful day. Staff very friendly.
First time play makes it hard to see some of the blind shots. Scenery delightful.
Greens were quite good but fairways , bunkers and tee boxes need help.
Beautiful but very challenging!
We had a lovely day. The course is breathtaking, but very hilly. A challenge for newer golfers. It's also very spread out so plan on a longer time to finish. The greens were in great shape but the fairways were just okay. We'd play it again!
Sapphire National
This is a spectacular Ron Garl mountain course with plenty of dramatic elevations, scenic three pars, mountain views, uphill, downhill and side hill lies, and even a hole built around a natural waterfall! The greens were soft but tricky to read, but the bunkers and fairway conditions in August were wet and in less than perfect conditions. I would definitely recommend this course for anyone in the Highlands-Cashiers area.
could be magical
I have a lot to learn about mountain golf ! But I know how to pay attention to detail, and just be neat...
Best thing the course has gong for it, is it's nestled in one of the most magical places in the world.
Regardless the Fairways , plus the bunkers in the fairways and the bunkers around the greens are real hazards! I recommend lift clean and place in fairways. All bunkers seam to be luck of draw...
From the back tees There's great elevated tees with with great shoots. The elevation, scenery, combined with weather, make for a satisfying experience.
Do not expect good conditions the Maintenance is fundamentally sloppy.
The fringe curtains around the green are cut right into. Fairways have crab grass and dead spots, real sad...
I like to fill divots but our cart had empty filler...
Tons of unfilled divots on tees, and all over the greens. No one fixes divots on greens.
I found my self filling 5 or 10 divots on par threes cause the bucket of seed was their.
the condition of the track are rough!! kinda like a goat ranch... but I have fun every time..
Overall
Good course but poor sand traps
Challenging par 3's
wet day on a good course
We had wet weather on 11 holes of this tricky course. The course is short but interestingly challenging. Staff was helpful regarding safety during stormy weather. Course fairways and greens drain well considering heavy downpours.
Definitely will return with better weather conditions.
Best Public Mountain Course
I have been in the Mountains of WNC for 6 years and have just now had the opportunity to play at Sapphire National. I was very impressed with the course. I would put it up against any of the other public courses here and possibly some of the private ones I've had the opportunity to play...I highly recommend this cours to any golf enthusiast.
Beautiful Par 3 holes
The course has a great tight challenging tract with fast but fair greens. Due to recent heavy rains, fairways and rough were a bit long.
Really Nice Course
This was my first time playing this course and I really enjoyed it. The staff was excellent and the course presented a good challenge. The only real issue I had with the course is that the bunkers needed work. There was grass growing in several of them and the sand in them were packed down. Other than that it was worth the hour drive we drove to play. The par 3s were really fun especially hole number 16 which is an island green!
Tremendous course
Our favorite course to play in WNC. Bit of a drive for me (1 hr) but well worth it. Always get the hot time, so not sure what it cost without the discount.
Tees: A+
Fairways: A+
Greens: A+
Bunkers: A (who wants to give a bunker any grade besides F!)
Scenic Views: A+ Love the waterfalls, the water around the par 3's, the elevation changes. Just a great looking venue IMO.
It's tough to score well if you aren't in the fairway. The rough is punishing, as it should be. The Par 3's give this course it's beauty. I don't play a lot of high end courses, so this is really the top of the line for me. Usually playing with my son, so 2 tee times at $60+ is more then I want to pay. Paid $30 for the hot time and would do so every time for this course. If you are in the mountains of WNC or North GA, it's worth the drive.
Friendly staff and awesome golf course!
Breath taking views from the 1st tee to the 18th green! Challenging but very playable!
Staff was amazing from bag drop, pro shop and restaurant!!⛳️
Sapphire National
Probably the most scenic course in WNC and there are many. The par 3 holes are beautiful and the signature hole with the waterfall is incredible. Staff was great and a really good challenging course.
fun to play course.
I have played here a number of times and have always enjoyed this course. For me, it is challenging but a lot of fun. The scenery is amazing and the course is well maintained.
challenging and forgiving
Well kept, good carts, and bring extra balls. Staff was friendly and encouraging.
Nice round
Nice round on a good course. Surprisingly uncrowded for a weekend in early May. I''d played this course years ago and it was really crowded, so today was a pleasant surprise. I will play it again.
Good Value
If you are visiting the area, you will find all the nicest courses are completely private, so finding a nice mountain course that is decent, public, and decent rate can be challenging.
Par 3's interesting, fair, fun, good holes, and challenging, providing some of the huge drop-offs from tee to green you like to see when you play a true mountain course.
Greens were above average for public course. Fairways very nice (but due to not mowing as frequent as public#, very erratic golf length. We did not play down #do not recommend that) and it was fine and fair. Rough extremely difficult, probably a little overgrown, and varies from modest to severe penalty for you when you miss fairway by just a yard or 2.
I recommend this as a fun course.
