Good course at a very reasonable price
Last played at the course over 3 years ago when it was declining - it is now a very well maintained course (greens were excellent) in a very pleasant place to play - the course rewards good shots without penalizing you too much for poor ones - will be back there soon!
River Oaks
Course in great condition. Have made a lot of improvements since I last played the course. Will be back again soon. You won't be disappointed.
Great Value
Tony Henderson has a great piece of property for a golf course. Rolling hills and pretty trees. Great value!
Significant Upgrade in Past Couple of Years
Had first tee time and arrived early. Started round at 6:35 AM and finished in 2 hours and 40 minutes as a single. Given the significant amount of winter kill around Charlotte courses, the turf conditions were very good. Bunkers had drained well from the rains the day before and sand was overall pretty soft. Only complaint is the greens were severely ball marked and pretty slow. Course has started an aggressive tree removal program (on-going it appears) which has provided improved sight lines, more sunlight and therefore dryer turf. For rack rate of $33 on a holiday morning this is a great deal.
Great value
This course will be a top contender in the near future!!!!
What a find
About 10 miles out 40 off of 77. Our course had been aerated so we looked for somewhere different to play. Greens were near perfect, fairways were great and bunkers properly maintained. Lots of blind shots, elevation, dog legs and winding creeks to keep you on your toes. You'll definitely improve by many stokes after your first time there. Beautiful private setting on par with some of the best in the charlotte area. Great value for the money and they actually appreciate your business. We played during drought conditions but the course showed no signs of it.
Nice Course, Friendly Staff. Great Greens. Great Value. Overall, great course.
Played on a Friday morning. Had 1 1/2 " rain night before. But course held up nicely. Its a $25 course all day long. Great value. Would not pay more but that goes for any course. Overall it was a great experience. Last time I played the course, it was North Carolina National and it was ok. The owner was great and the grill staff (not sure her name but pretty sure she was manager) was extremely nice and very outgoing. It was a little slow pace of play because we had a twosome infront of us that rather talk than play golf. Not the course to blame. That happens everywhere. But my biggest complaint is that this course has a lot of blind shots. Very challenging to say the least. First time playing the course is almost impossible since there are not yardage marked for layups. Would be nice if on the tee box they would tell you the distance to layup areas. It may take several rounds before you figure it out. Did almost get hit on one hole. But again that was because the twosome in front of us were too busy on their phones and the twosome behind us were not paying attention. But again overall, a great course and layout. Will definitely play again as long as the price doesnt increase. I'm cheap.
Nice Surprise
River Oaks was in the best shape I have seen it in a number of years. we were able to play early in the morning and finish around promptly.they are doing some improvements to the course including taking out a number of trees and if you can overlook those I think you will really enjoy your round there. kudos to the staff for being very friendly and helpful.we were very pleased with the condition of the Greens some of the best we've seen this time of year.
Great course!!
Not sure about the recent reviews calling this place the worst course ever. I thought it was a great course. There are elevation changes on almost every hole, so proper club selection is a key. The greens were excellent, and the fairways were in great shape. Tee boxes were hit or miss; those in secluded spots were a little bare. This is not a walking course. There was some evidence of recent tree removal, but nothing that affected play. The course wasn't overly busy on a Sunday morning, but it seemed like all of the groups were in the same spot. The ranger did his best to keep everyone moving. I will definitely come back.
Beautiful
They have worked really hard on the maintenance of this course and it shows. Fairway's and greens were in great shape. I will playing this course again very soon!
A nice challenge
The course is a nice challenge with nice scenery and views. The conditions were superb for early spring. A very enjoyable round.
Worth course ever
Worth course I ever played on.. Like play in a cow pack
I'll not play this course again
war zone
Course and club were being logged for development. Very very muddy. Missing signs on course and greens had been heavily sanded. OK for a practice day.
Nice course. Offers some challenging holes.
I was pleasantly surprised at how good of shape this course was in for mid March. The fairways where green and tee boxes where in pretty good shape for the time of year. This course offers some challenging holes with a lot of hills and some blind shots. A tough play for your first time, but very fun. They are doing a lot of work on the course, but I'm sure once it's completed it will be an excellent condition overall. The only downfall was they just aerated the greens and they where sandy, so I cannot offer much of a review on them.
Nice course
Haven't played the course in over 5 years, much improved since then! Nice course! Doing a lot of work to the course but still tons of fun to play. Course was over seeded and in good condition!
Go play
Love this course. The set up is great and in good shape for this time of the year . Great staff.
Great Course
Well maintained course that overseeded fairways for the winter. It has bent grass greens always in good shape. Course is a fair test for most mid to low handicapers. The high handicapers will struggle here as it has lots of elevation change and requires accuracy to mid sized fairways and greens. One of the best for the money in this area. A must play.
Critique of Golf Now
The course manager did not know that I was coming. He worked me in just fine but I wouldn't always expect the same success.
Good course / great value
Nice layout around developing neighborhood - tight fairways but every hole different. Tough to tell yardage on some holes. Recommend if you are in the area to play as it is very easy t get to just off RT 40.
River Oaks in the fall
Beautiful course and a beautiful day. I could have picked an easier course after my 4 year hiatus, but I always liked this course and had not played it under the current owners. The course has done well under new ownership. The first hole has been shortened and made much easier but the rest of the course was as I remembered it; challenging. Tee boxes were good, fairways were great and the greens were perfect. It was a wonderful fall day with temperatures in the early seventies and nothing but sunshine. All of the fall leaves had been blown off of the course and into the wooded areas. Great experience.
