Cooks Creek Golf Club
About
Cooks Creek Golf Club (previously known as Raintree South Golf Club) is bordered by Little Walnut Creek on one side and the Scioto River on the other, providing a scenic setting that is ideal for a round of golf. The course is a certified Audubon Sanctuary and there is also a Blue Herron rookery on site. Opened in 1993, the golf course is relatively young but it has already established a reputation for being one of central Ohio's best public courses. Local architects Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry designed the course with the assistance of John Cook. Cooks Creek has two completely unique nines that offer two different sets of challenges. The diverse layout requires careful strategy and it will also test your shot-making abilities. With two bodies of water serving as neighbors, water definitely plays a role on the golf course.

This was a fairway, patches of dirt like this were extremely common throughout. Photo submitted by ScEGDxKM8Z1A9tQ5q63k on 10/13/2019

Awesome layout
My favorite course in the area that I can play regularly. Awesome layout with elevation changes I did not expect in Ohio.
good golf!
As I have said, one should have their B game at least.
Putting good is a must as well as the short game. I played from the red tees, that's one up from the tips.It was very windy. That didn't do anything to help me like the round. It was quite a chore, but I enjoyed it
Thanks for your review! We are glad you enjoyed your round with us. We hope to see you back soon for your next round!
Great variety of challenging holes
Don't tell anyone how nice this course is! Let's keep it a secret so that it will be easy to get tee times! Seriously, the course is making a comeback under new management. Some improvements have already been made, and the condition of the course will continue to improve as the summer approaches. There is a great variety of holes - some easy Par 4s, including #11 which is a drivable Par 4, and number 3, 12 and 18 which are long and challenging Par 4s. They have taken away some of the sand traps which are not in play, which is good.
Thanks for your review! We are thrilled that you enjoy our course and appreciate your patience as we get everything back up to par. We look forward to seeing you soon for your next round at Cooks Creek!
Cooks Creek is BACK!!!
After a steady decline under the name/ownership of Raintree South, the course has thankfully returned to the Cook family & its original name. Conditions are dramatically improved to the historical Cook standard. Greens have returned to proper condition, parking lot has been repaved. Time to revisit this elite central OH gem!
Thanks for your review! We are happy to be back and are glad that you enjoy our course. We look forward to seeing you again soon for your next round at Cooks Creek!
A Gem on The Rebound
Arranged a foursome for Cook's Creek. Wanted a place convenient to players coming from both Lancaster and Columbus. Had not played the course in 20+ years and heard it had gone downhill. Was pleasantly surprised. It is a scenic track yet very playable from the right tee boxes. We played the grays. Courteous staff and a special treat to speak with the owner, John Cook Sr., who was there when we finished play. The course is showing some age and a couple of the greens had something like grid lines (that did not seem to affect putts). But it is clear there is commitment to bringing the course back to a top level Central Ohio public course. With Friday green fees around $30, quite the bargain compared to the current king of best public course in the area. Longaberger should be looking over its shoulder.
Thanks for your review! We are happy you enjoyed our course and staff. We hope to see you again soon for your next round at Cooks Creek!
Under Newl (Original) Management
My favorite public course is now Cooks Creek again (no longer called Braintree South). Jim Cook told me personally that they took it back to bring the course conditions and maintenance back to their high standards. Already noticing a lot of improvements since I played here a few weeks ago. Pro shop is now located in the room where the bar is so use the middle door to the bar when you arrive. They were updateing the kitchen to serve two party rooms at once, smaller one where the pro shop used to be. Package deal for 12 antime rounds for $360 now being offered. Cant beat $30 a round on weekend mornings. Enjoy!
Thanks for your review! We are thrilled to be your favorite public course and excited that you enjoyed your experience with us. We look forward to having you back soon for your next round with Cooks Creek!
Course is in awful shape!
While $33.95 is less than I would expect to pay for a round at Cook's, it was apparent from the first green and all the way through the course that it was way too much for my afternoon round. It looks like the greens mower has an oil leak, which caused the grass to die in inch wide trenches every 2-3 feet across the first several greens. After that, they were just dry, with ball marks everywhere. Fairways weren't in good shape either. I wanted to ask for a refund, but the course needs it more than I do! I won't return to play at Cooks Creek until they prove that they care about the condition of the course. Right now, they just don't!
Raintree/Cooks Creek
This course has been purchased again by Mr. Cook for the 3rd time. Hopefully we'll see some improvements soon. Can't say enough nice things about the staff. They were extremely welcoming and accommodating.
Great layout, needs a little cosmetic work
First time playing the course and the layout was great. The only issues we had were with the damage on the first 2-3 greens that was major. Other than a few minor blemishes, the course is a great value for the cost and I would definitely play there again.
Returning to its old form
Most importantly this course is under new management. It is back in the hands of the Cook family and the staff is finally receiving the resources to make it great again. The course is being worked on daily everywhere from the parking lot, to the clubhouse, to every hole of the course. Bunkers are being repaired and fairways and greens are excellent as they always have been. The course was in great shape and the repair of the bunkers is coming along very nicely. Many of the cart paths are being repaired and the greens that were damaged are healing nicely. In a short time this course will look great. I will play this course as often as possible, it is great to see that it is returning to form. I found the staff to be friendly and the course to offer a challenge from any teebox. It is worth a trip from the surrounding areas and the value for the greens fee cannot be beat in my opinion. As they continue the improvement process I think this course will take off and become popular so play it before it gets busy, and I think you will want to play often.
Easter SUnday
Played as a 2-some, and had the first tee-time in the morning. Temperature was about 40 degrees - and the turf was covered with heavy dew. For the last weekend in March, the course was in remarkable shape. We found the wide fairways ideal for our brand of golf.....and playing from the gray tees allowed us some good opportunities for GIR's. Greens were firm and 16/18 were in great shape. A great round on a beautiful course far from the city - very nice. 10/10 will return often!
unfriendly staff
Third time playing this year hear. Roads and cart paths need a lot of work! Traps and water hazards in poor shape. Staff member running the pro shop very rude. He came out when we on our sixteenth hole and said "You need to finish this hole and leave because it's 5:00 and I only get paid till 5". I've played this course two to three times a year for several years. NEVER MORE!!! I drove 75 miles to celebrate my son's birthday with a round of golf and got asked to leave. 5:00 REALLY? I will never be back.
The course was losing money and for sale last year. New management has taken over since the date of this post. They were running on a skeleton crew last year and it was definitely a bad situation. Hopefully things will improve this year. It is a beautiful layout.
very nice course
one of the better courses around Columbus. #1 a nice way to start. entire course, the fairways are wide, and good shape. greens were consistant except for 2-3 holes on front nine where they had lines going across greens. #10 if you hit a good drive, eagle is a possibility. a tee box for every type of golfer
Great course for the price.
We paid $20 for 18 holes and a cart. The only problem with the course was a couple of greens where a move apparently leaked oil. There were dead grass stripes running across 3 or 4 greens. The only other problem was the food and beverage. They were basically scaled back to almost nothing. The draft been taps were closed, very limited menu and then even ran out of hotdogs by 11:45am. I know it is getting late in the season, but it looked liked the course was full, should have had better options in the restaurant and bar. Course was in good shape, not quite where it was a few years ago, but still pretty good. Lots of water and trees, so make sure you have plenty of golf balls.
Seen it better
Have seen the course in much better shape, but for the price now it is well worth the money.
Nice design, but in terrible condition
I love the design of the course. However, the greens were all rock hard and there were patches of dirt on every green. If you didn't land your shot 15 yards in front of the green, it would roll off the back. Then when you got on the green, you had to putt thru patches of dirt. This made it impossible to judge the speeds and trajectory of the ball. NOT RECOMMENDED! This course desperately needs new ownership/management to bring it back to its former glory.
Terrific course, but...
Played the course for the first time in more than 15 years. I like it. Each hole is unique, which is good. Conditions of the fairways and greens were good, too, though a few greens (and the practice green) were marred by long dead strips. Wish they would put out some drinking water. No food cart. No water. Take your own.
Amazing
Recently I had heard that Raintree South was under going changes and have some new staff and working pretty much with a skeleton crew. Man these guys do work for what they have. Every person in this place was friendly and cared about your golf experience, which is different because when I played here at the beginning of the year I didn't think I would come back with how poorly ran it was.
I glad I gave this place another chance, there are always going to imperfections on a public course with low rates. I think this place is headed in a great direction.
Always fun
My favorite course in the columbus area right now. Well maintained and a ton of variety from hole to hole. A gem.
What a shame.
Played Raintree South (Cook's Creek) and was shocked how bad it had become. Golfed here years ago and it was phenomenal, now not so much. To say the place has taken a dive would be an understatement. Weeds on teeboxes, bunkers had no sand, sloppy-muddy fairways, greens in terrible shape. To top it off, the clubhouse was bare bones, no balls for sale, just a guy behind the cash register waiting to take your money. It's a shame how new management has ran this once pristine course into the ground. Hopefully the rumors of Mr. Cook buying it back come true. Would like to see this great layout return to form.
Thanks for your review! We are honored that we are your favorite course in our area. We look forward to seeing you soon for your next round at Cooks Creek!
